OVHcloud lists 1 TB monthly transfer for APAC VPS-1 and VPS-2, with traffic capped at 10 Mbps after the quota. Confirm the orderable location and its current transfer terms before buying; OVHcloud says it has no data centre in India.
What is the cheapest OVHcloud VPS for 24/7 YouTube streaming?
The lowest India-facing listing identified is OVHcloud VPS-1, shown at ₹420 per month excluding GST. The listing specifies 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe storage and 500 Mbps public bandwidth. That price and specification do not establish that the VPS can encode your chosen video continuously or stay within a usable transfer quota.
OVHcloud states that it has no data centre in India. Treat the India page as a market-facing listing, not proof that the server will be hosted in India. Check the location actually offered during checkout, the final price including applicable Indian taxes and any setup charge, and the transfer terms attached to that specific order.
Why VPS-1 may not be the cheapest workable plan
For APAC, OVHcloud lists 1 TB of monthly transfer on VPS-1 and VPS-2, and 3 TB on VPS-3 and VPS-4. After the applicable quota, the connection is capped at 10 Mbps. These limits can change the practical value of the headline price: the base plan may cost less but be unsuitable for a continuous stream at your target quality.

For a location-specific comparison, use the order details rather than assuming that a page-wide “unlimited” claim means unrestricted transfer. Confirm the monthly quota and exactly what happens after it is reached.
How much data does a 5 Mbps stream use in a month?
A constant 5 Mbps stream transfers approximately 54 GB per day, or 1.62 TB in 30 days. This is a calculated estimate based on the video bitrate, not an OVHcloud-published usage figure. It excludes audio, protocol overhead, reconnects, retries, and other traffic from the VPS, so actual consumption can be higher.

The arithmetic is: bitrate in Mbps × 10.8 × 30 = approximate decimal GB per 30 days. Compare the result with the quota for the server’s actual region, leaving room for non-video traffic. A 5 Mbps 1080p/30 stream therefore exceeds the stated 1 TB APAC allowance for VPS-1 and VPS-2 before those additional costs are counted. The stated 3 TB APAC allowance for VPS-3 and VPS-4 gives more room, but still needs checking against the real workload and order terms.
Choose the region and plan using these checks
- Verify the location at checkout. Record the actual data-centre region offered for the VPS. The India-facing listing does not establish an India-hosted server, and no specific APAC location is established here as best for an India-origin channel.
- Compare the full recurring cost. Add applicable Indian taxes and any setup charge to the displayed monthly amount. Confirm the billing period and renewal price in the order flow.
- Confirm transfer and post-quota behavior. Check the location-specific allowance and whether exceeding it triggers the 10 Mbps cap or different terms. Do not rely on a generic bandwidth headline.
- Estimate transfer at your intended bitrate. Multiply the video bitrate in Mbps by 10.8 and then by 30 for approximate decimal GB per month. Add room for audio, overhead, retries, and other server traffic.
- Assess the actual encoding workload. Check the available CPU and memory, whether you will encode in software, storage required for local media, route to YouTube ingest, and the advertised port bandwidth. OVHcloud says CPU and memory workloads are shared among independent VPS instances, so vCore count alone is not proof of sustained encoding capacity.
- Run a representative test before relying on it. Stream representative motion and audio long enough to observe CPU saturation, dropped frames, reconnects and the traffic counter. No independent performance result establishes continuous encoding capacity for a specific OVHcloud VPS SKU.
Set YouTube’s ingest and encoder settings
For the encoder values below, use YouTube’s current live encoder settings as the reference. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use the resolution and bitrate appropriate to your stream rather than assuming the VPS’s advertised network port is the encoder’s required bitrate.

These are YouTube’s listed recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode or deliver them continuously. YouTube also recommends 20% upload headroom beyond the combined bitrate of the primary and backup streams; network disruption can still break a stream. Can OVHcloud VPS-1 handle a 24/7 stream?
The published specifications do not answer that conclusively. VPS-1’s 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe storage and 500 Mbps public bandwidth describe the listed plan, but they do not prove sustained software-encoding performance, route quality to YouTube, or uninterrupted operation. OVHcloud’s FFmpeg examples are for dedicated servers, while its VPS comparison says CPU and memory workloads are shared among independent VPS instances.

There is also a transfer issue: if the server is in APAC under the stated terms, a constant 5 Mbps stream’s estimated 1.62 TB per 30 days is already above VPS-1’s 1 TB monthly quota, before overhead. VPS-1 could only be judged for a particular setup after you verify the actual region and quota, select a bitrate, and test that workload on the purchased configuration.

The exact OVHcloud order and operating-system screens can vary by region and change over time. The following sequence focuses on the decisions that determine whether a VPS-based stream is viable; do not treat a successful purchase or a running encoder as proof of a reliable 24/7 service.

- Order only after checking the offer. Choose the VPS and location shown in the order flow. Save the final price, tax treatment, transfer allowance, post-quota behavior, CPU/RAM specification and storage details.
- Prepare the source video and encoder. Ensure the VPS has enough usable storage for the media and that your chosen encoder can read it. Decide whether to stream the source as-is or encode it to a YouTube-compatible H.264 output. Encoding adds CPU load; test it on the selected VPS rather than inferring performance from the vCore count.
- Configure YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream in YouTube and retrieve its stream key and ingest settings. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to the channel. Use RTMPS where supported.
- Set and inspect encoder output. Select the intended resolution and frame rate, H.264, CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval (never over 4 seconds). Use YouTube’s recommended bitrate for that resolution and frame rate; the cited recommendations are 5 Mbps for 1080p/30 and 8 Mbps for 720p/30.
- Run an extended test. Use representative video and audio, then watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and the VPS’s CPU, memory, dropped-frame, reconnect and network-traffic metrics. YouTube advises 20% upload headroom beyond primary plus backup bitrate. Test long enough to identify recurring resource or connection problems before treating the VPS as an always-on solution.
- Recheck costs under load. Compare the server’s traffic counter with the allowance for its region and estimate a full 30-day month. Include audio, overhead, other traffic and the consequences of any quota cap.
Troubleshooting common VPS streaming problems
- The stream stops or becomes unstable after heavy use: Check the region’s transfer counter and post-quota terms. Under the stated APAC terms, traffic beyond the listed quota is capped at 10 Mbps.
- YouTube reports dropped frames or poor connection: Check the route and sustained upload behavior to the selected YouTube ingest, inspect stream health, and verify that the connection has headroom beyond the primary and backup stream bitrates. A 500 Mbps advertised port does not establish reliable end-to-end delivery.
- Video stutters while CPU use is high: The encoder may be exceeding the VPS’s sustained processing capacity. Test the same source and settings, and reduce encoding load or choose another configuration only after measuring the result. The plan specification alone does not establish an encoding limit.
- The output does not match the selected YouTube settings: Check that the encoder is using H.264, CBR, the intended resolution and bitrate, and a 2-second keyframe interval no greater than 4 seconds.
- YouTube will not accept the stream: Confirm that the correct stream key and ingest protocol are configured, and check the live stream setup and health information in YouTube. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The stream appears live but cannot safely run the chosen content: Review YouTube’s Community Guidelines and YouTube Partner Program channel monetization policies. A technically valid live stream does not guarantee that content complies with YouTube policies or qualifies for monetization.
