What “schedule a YouTube Live playlist” actually requires
A scheduled YouTube event and an automated playlist are different things. YouTube Studio can set up an upcoming live stream that may appear in subscribers’ feeds; when it is time to broadcast, an encoder still has to connect using YouTube’s stream URL and key. YouTube’s stream settings help explains event settings, and its encoder instructions cover connecting the feed.
For prerecorded videos to start automatically and play in sequence, you need a service that accepts uploaded files and provides playlist scheduling or looping. If you only want to release one video at a set time, a YouTube Premiere may be simpler: it creates a public watch page with reminders and chat for a shared viewing event. You need a fixed sequence of multiple videos

Consider a YouTube Premiere instead of setting up a live playlist. YouTube describes Premieres as a way for creators and viewers to watch a new video together in real time, with a public watch page and chat. Use it when the shared scheduled release is the goal; use a playlist scheduler when videos need to run in sequence or repeat.
You already have an encoder-driven live event
Use YouTube’s scheduled-live workflow to announce the event, then connect and operate the encoder at broadcast time. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours in advance and starting them at least 15 minutes before the event; these are YouTube’s operating recommendations, not a guarantee of performance. You need multistreaming as well as prerecorded playback
Check each destination separately rather than assuming the same automation works everywhere. StreamYard’s advance-scheduling help excludes custom RTMP destinations. Restream notes that some connected services, including TikTok or Instagram in its documented workflow, may still require a manual platform-side go-live action; see its scheduling guide.
Set up a YouTube event when you use an encoder
- Create the event in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s live stream settings to schedule the broadcast and configure its event details. An upcoming page can help viewers find the event, but it does not play your playlist.
- Copy the stream connection details. Use the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s live control room, following the encoder setup instructions. Keep the key private; anyone with access may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Connect and test the encoder ahead of time. YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it. Confirm that YouTube receives a signal and that the picture and sound are correct before relying on the event start.
- Supply the video feed at broadcast time. The encoder must be running and sending the feed. If your actual goal is unattended playback of uploaded files, choose a scheduler that documents that capability rather than treating the event page as automation.
Protect the channel and the content
Automating playback does not grant rights to the videos or guarantee that a channel is eligible for monetization. Use video, music and other material you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s current live-streaming and copyright rules before scheduling a long-running playlist. For repeated programming, also consider whether the channel’s presentation adds original value rather than simply rebroadcasting material without meaningful rights or context.

Continuous loops can run for many hours, so check the full playlist, transitions, titles, descriptions and schedule before enabling unattended playback. A scheduler can automate delivery; it cannot resolve rights disputes or determine whether YouTube’s channel policies are satisfied.
Common problems and what to check
- The scheduled event appears, but no video plays. You have created an event page without a feed. Connect and start the encoder at the scheduled time, or use a cloud service whose documented workflow starts uploaded videos automatically.
- The stream starts late or not at all. Check that the event is scheduled for the intended time zone, the correct destination is connected, the files finished uploading, and the scheduler is set to start automatically. For encoder workflows, confirm the encoder is online and using the active stream key.
- The playlist stops after one video. Check whether the selected mode plays a single file, advances through queued files, or loops. Confirm that the playlist is saved and that each file is available to the service; looping behavior is a separate feature from scheduling.
- A destination will not schedule in advance. Verify that the destination supports scheduled prerecorded streams in that product. StreamYard documents advance scheduling for certain destinations, not custom RTMP; some Restream-connected services may require a manual platform-side go-live action.
- A feature or duration limit is unavailable. Check the current plan and add-ons. Restream says video library limits depend on add-ons; OneStream says advanced scheduling features require Standard or higher; StreamYard says unlimited prerecorded scheduling applies to Teams and Business.
- YouTube interrupts or rejects the broadcast. Review the stream status and YouTube notices, then check the stream key, destination connection and content rights. A scheduler can restart playback only where the service documents recovery; do not assume every third-party tool reconnects automatically.
