MikroTik announced the CRS320-8P-8B-4S+RM in Newsletter #119 on July 4, 2024. It is a 1U rackmount switch built for installations that need multiple Gigabit PoE endpoints, including eight ports with 802.3bt PoE++ output rated up to 90 W per port, plus four 10G SFP+ uplinks. Its main trade-off is straightforward: the powered copper ports are Gigabit, not multigigabit.
What MikroTik announced
MikroTik describes the CRS320 as its first high-power PoE++ switch, intended to power standard 802.3af/at/bt devices. The official product page lists a suggested price of $489.00; actual retail price and availability can vary by region and seller. MikroTik CRS320 product page
Ports and network layout
The 1U chassis provides 17 Gigabit Ethernet ports: 16 for powered connections and one additional port for management. The eight PoE++ ports serve higher-power endpoints, while four 10G SFP+ ports provide fiber uplinks.

This layout suits networks with many 1G endpoints and faster fiber aggregation. If access devices need more than 1 Gbps over copper, the CRS320’s Gigabit access ports are a meaningful constraint; its 10G capacity is on the SFP+ uplinks.

PoE output and power supply
MikroTik specifies up to 90 W per 802.3bt port, useful for compatible high-demand endpoints such as heated 4K security cameras, LED advertising displays, or PoE-powered lighting. The published total output power is 963 W. The switch ships with a 600 W power supply and has a second PSU slot; with an additional supply, MikroTik lists maximum power consumption capability of 1150 W. These figures describe different limits: per-port output, aggregate output, and the system’s power capability should not be treated as interchangeable.
The product supports 802.3af, 802.3at, and 802.3bt PoE-out. For devices advertised as merely “compatible,” rather than fully compliant with those standards, MikroTik advises checking its PoE-Out documentation, including the grounding guidance for the specific installation.

RouterOS and SwitchOS support
The CRS320 supports RouterOS v7 and SwitchOS (SwOS) and carries a RouterOS level 5 license. MikroTik’s SwOS 2.17 release, dated September 3, 2024, added CRS320 support and documents upgrading RouterOS before installing SwOS. Consult the MikroTik downloads page for current software and installation instructions, since available versions can change.
Hardware, rack fit, and operating conditions
- Switching platform: dual-core 800 MHz ARM 32-bit 98DX226S, with 256 MB RAM and 32 MB flash.
- Chassis: 444 × 235 × 44 mm in MikroTik’s specification sheet; 1U rackmount ears and cable-management hardware are included.
- Cooling: three fans.
- Power input: 100–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz; one hot-swappable PSU is included.
- Operating environment: tested ambient range of −10 °C to 50 °C.
- Reliability figure: approximately 200,000 hours MTBF at 25 °C, as listed by MikroTik.
Because the switch uses three fans and is designed for rack mounting, account for cooling and fan noise when planning a small office or other occupied space. Check the 235 mm chassis depth against the rack and cable-clearance available at the installation site.

Who the CRS320 is for
The CRS320 is a strong fit when an installation needs multiple powered Gigabit devices, genuine 802.3bt high-wattage ports, 10G fiber uplinks, and a rackmount form factor. Before choosing it, compare alternatives on the points that affect the deployment:
- Whether each endpoint needs 802.3af, 802.3at, or 802.3bt, and its required wattage.
- The available per-port and aggregate PoE budget under the intended load.
- Whether Gigabit access is sufficient or multigigabit copper is required.
- Whether uplinks should be fiber/SFP+ or copper.
- Whether a second PSU is needed for the planned power capacity.
- Fan noise, rack depth, and preference for RouterOS or SwitchOS.
For retailer searches, use the exact model name: “MikroTik CRS320-8P-8B-4S+RM.”
