Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIn a Tom’s Guide hands-on published October 2, 2026, Darragh Murphy reports that Gears of War: E-Day looked especially convincing in its reflected light and environmental detail with RTX Mega Geometry enabled. On his GeForce RTX 5070 test PC, he played at 4K on High settings at about 50 FPS. That is one writer’s result on one system—not a performance guarantee for other PCs.
What RTX Mega Geometry does in E-Day
Gears of War: E-Day is built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, and Xbox says the PC version includes hardware ray tracing. NVIDIA describes RTX Mega Geometry as a technique for ray tracing Nanite geometry, allowing ray tracing to work with highly detailed scene geometry. NVIDIA says higher detail and ray-tracing settings contribute to image quality; the visible improvement Murphy describes is his own observation, not an independent image-quality test.
In the scenes Murphy highlights, lighting and reflections made damaged locations feel more grounded: fluorescent light reflected across a grocery-store floor, while debris appeared in a blood-smeared window. These are examples from his play session, not a guarantee that every scene or display will show the same difference. His account is in Tom’s Guide’s PC hands-on.
What hardware is required to enable it?
NVIDIA says RTX Mega Geometry requires a GeForce RTX graphics card with at least 12 GB of VRAM. That threshold applies to enabling this particular feature; it is not a statement of the minimum hardware needed to play the game. A card with less VRAM may still run E-Day, but the cited sources do not establish its full system requirements or performance on such a card.

The RTX 5070 was the GPU in Murphy’s PC, but his report does not establish that every RTX 5070 model or system will perform identically. Check the VRAM capacity of the specific card and consider your target resolution and settings, rather than treating the feature threshold as a performance recommendation. NVIDIA’s feature details are on its RTX Mega Geometry page.
How the PC hands-on performed
Murphy says he played for more than 12 hours on a PC supplied by Quoted Tech Frontier, configured with an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, and 32 GB of RAM. He reports about 50 FPS at 4K on High settings and says that resolution taxed the system, although gameplay felt smooth to him. Those figures are his reported experience, not replicated benchmarks or a comparison across graphics cards.

He also says enabling RTX Mega Geometry did not appear to hurt performance on his system. That observation does not show that the feature has no performance cost on other hardware, at different settings, or in every scene.
Which upscaling options does the PC version support?
NVIDIA’s RTX partnership is not the only PC graphics option. Xbox says E-Day supports AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, Intel XeSS, and Advanced Shader Delivery on compatible systems. The available option depends on hardware and game configuration; the cited Xbox announcement does not specify exact version numbers or explain which combinations can be used with each setting.

NVIDIA also publishes frame-rate claims for RTX 50 Series cards using DLSS 4.5 and a fixed 6X frame-generation multiplier. Those are NVIDIA’s vendor benchmarks under its stated conditions, not Murphy’s roughly 50-FPS result and not independent measurements. Compare benchmark figures only when the resolution, settings, frame generation, and test conditions match your own needs.

Xbox describes E-Day as an origin story set 14 years before the first Gears of War, following Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges. The game is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, and Steam, and Xbox says it is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Xbox’s September 17, 2026 launch update specifies a worldwide launch on October 6, 2026; Premium Edition early access began October 1, while Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members join on October 6. Confirm current availability and edition terms with Xbox’s launch update, since dates and access details can change.
