A fan-made AI-enhanced image reimagines classic Doomguy as a realistic human—but it is an interpretation, not an official face reveal. PCGamesN reported on April 27, 2020, that the image was posted by Reddit user u/Panishev with the caption “Doomguy after few AI enhancements.” The reporting did not identify the exact AI model or workflow used.
How the pixelated Doomguy became a realistic human
The transformation starts with the small face associated with the 1993 DOS-era DOOM and adds the detail and texture of a plausible human portrait. PCGamesN’s report describes a sequence moving from the original game-era appearance toward a more realistic version, crediting the fan image to Reddit user u/Panishev. The caption reported with the post was “Doomguy after few AI enhancements.” PCGamesN’s April 27, 2020 report
“AI-enhanced” is the level of detail the reporting supports. It does not establish which model, application, prompt, or sequence of editing steps produced that particular image, so those specifics should not be inferred from its appearance.
Is this what Doomguy canonically looks like?
No. The image is a fan interpretation, not an official Bethesda or id Software face reveal or canonical redesign. The sprite gives viewers a recognizable starting point, but converting it into a detailed human portrait requires choices about features the original image does not uniquely define. The result can feel plausible without being the one definitive real-world version of Doomguy.

A separate Reddit post from May 25, 2019, describes a creator’s attempt to imagine classic Doomguy as a real person while staying faithful to the sprite. That creator says they used a StyleGAN encoder to build a realistic version of a supplied face. It is evidence about that 2019 experiment only; the available reporting does not establish that it is the same image as u/Panishev’s 2020 post. 2019 creator post on r/Doom

The tiny, low-resolution image can look crude by modern standards, but the original art drew on real-world references and deliberate production work. In a franchise retrospective, Bethesda’s Slayers Club says id Software pursued a grittier, darker look using varied references, including sketches, latex models, toy replicas, and other real-life material. It also reports that artist Kevin Cloud’s arm served as a reference for DOOMGuy’s weapon-wielding arm sprites. Cloud put it simply: “(The DOOM Marine’s) arm is just my arm,” says Cloud. - A Good Smile Company import
- The Doom Slayer has been recreated in large size
- Optional parts include the Chainsaw, Super Shotgun, Crucible Blade and BFG-9000
- Parts are included to display the Equipment Launcher and DOOM Blade in both retracted and deployed forms
- Includes articulated figma stand for a variety of poses
That context makes the AI transformation an interesting visual contrast: a familiar game image shaped by carefully chosen physical references is being reimagined with modern image-generation techniques. But added realism does not reveal hidden canonical details; it supplies new ones.
