GoFullPage and FireShot are two current options: both can capture beyond the visible screen, while FireShot’s listing adds scrolling-area capture and editing tools. Open the page you need, run the extension’s full-page command, then export an image or PDF. Test the workflow on a representative page first, because PDF viewers and sites with custom scrolling can prevent a complete capture.
What a full-page Chrome capture plugin does
A normal screen grab records only the pixels currently visible in the browser window. A full-page extension instead scrolls through the document, renders each section, and combines the results into one long image or a PDF. That is useful for documenting a landing page, archiving a support article, reviewing a design, or sharing a page without asking someone to scroll through it.
Extensions differ in what they can capture and edit. Some target the entire document; others can capture a scrollable panel inside the page. Output formats, PDF support, annotations, permissions, and behavior on unusual pages are not identical, so choose based on the page and file you actually need.
Install an extension and capture a full page
- Open Chrome Web Store. Search for GoFullPage or FireShot, then open the listing published by the named developer.
- Review the listing before installing. Check the current version, update date, requested permissions, supported exports, and privacy disclosure. Store details can change.
- Select “Add to Chrome.” Confirm the permission prompt. If Chrome offers an optional permission later, read what it enables before accepting.
- Open the target page in a normal tab. Let the page finish loading. If the site loads content only after scrolling, scroll through it once so important sections are present before capture.
- Run the extension from Chrome’s Extensions menu. Pin the extension if you use it often. Choose its full-page or scrolling capture command; exact labels can change between releases.
- Wait for the capture to finish. The extension may scroll the page several times while it builds the result. Do not switch tabs or interact with the page until the preview or export control appears.
- Export the result. Choose an image when you need a single visual file, or PDF when the destination is document-oriented. Save the file and inspect the top, middle, and bottom before sharing it.
Neither extension should be treated as a guarantee that every URL will work. A page that looks ordinary may use a nested scroll container, a PDF viewer, or scripts that change the document while it is being captured.

Choose GoFullPage when you want a simple whole-page export
GoFullPage’s Chrome Web Store listing (version 8.9, updated September 25, 2026) describes capturing the current page and saving it as an image or PDF. Its listing also displays a developer privacy disclosure stating that the developer will not collect or use user data. That is a vendor statement, not an independent audit.
Choose FireShot when you need formats or annotations
FireShot’s listing describes full-page and scrolling-area capture, PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP, and PDF output, plus editing options. The scrolling-area capability is useful when the content you need is inside a panel rather than the document’s main scroll. Confirm the current listing before relying on a particular format or editor.
Permissions, iframes, and privacy
Full-page capture requires page access because the extension must scroll and render the document. GoFullPage’s developer explains that capturing content inside an iframe can trigger optional permissions, including tabs, webNavigation, and <all_urls>. The same guide describes temporary, limited ability to read and modify page data for scrolling and screenshot rendering.

Grant optional permissions only when the page you need requires them. If you do not recognize a permission, cancel and inspect the listing or the developer’s permissions explanation. Review permissions again after an extension update; Chrome extensions can change their requested access over time.
Do not confuse a store privacy disclosure with a security certification. The GoFullPage listing’s no-data-collection statement is useful context, but it does not replace your organization’s review for confidential pages. Avoid capturing credentials, personal records, or internal applications unless your policy allows the extension.
Pages that may not capture cleanly
PDFs opened in Chrome
GoFullPage’s FAQ says PDFs may be inaccessible to the extension. If the target is a PDF viewer rather than an HTML page, the extension may return an incomplete result or fail to start. Use the PDF viewer’s own download or print controls when your goal is the original document, or test a representative file before adopting an extension workflow.
Custom scrolling containers
Some sites put the article inside a div or other element with its own scrollbar and use JavaScript to control movement. GoFullPage’s FAQ identifies custom scrolling as a capture limitation. FireShot’s scrolling-area feature may be a better match when the required content is a specific scrollable region, but verify the result at several points in the panel.

iframes
Embedded content can require the optional permissions described above. Without the necessary access, the outer page may capture while the iframe remains blank. Grant only the permission you understand, reload the page, and run the capture again.
Dynamic and delayed content
A page can change while the extension is stitching sections together. Advertisements, rotating banners, lazy-loaded images, or an account session that expires can create gaps or duplicated sections. Let the page settle, keep the tab active, and inspect the finished file rather than assuming a successful export is complete.
Troubleshooting checklist
- The extension icon does nothing: reload the tab, confirm the extension is enabled in Chrome’s Extensions page, and try a normal HTML page. Browser-internal pages and restricted contexts may not allow extension capture.
- The bottom of the page is missing: check whether the site uses a nested scrollbar. Capture the scrolling area with FireShot, or temporarily use the document’s main scrollbar if the site offers one.
- The result is blank: wait for the page to finish loading, disable a blocking script only if your organization permits it, and retry in a fresh tab. For an iframe, review the optional permissions prompt.
- A PDF will not capture: treat this as a documented GoFullPage limitation and use the PDF viewer’s native save/download function instead.
- Images are absent: scroll through the page once before capture so lazy content is requested, then wait for images to finish loading.
- The capture contains duplicate or shifted sections: stop animations where the site allows it, wait for fixed headers to settle, and repeat the capture. Compare the top, middle, and bottom with the live page.
- Chrome asks for broader access than expected: decline, read the developer’s permissions explanation, and decide whether the page is worth the additional access. Do not install an alternative solely because it promises to bypass a permission prompt.
- The extension changed after an update: recheck its live Chrome Web Store listing for version, permissions, export formats, and privacy disclosures before changing a production process.
Quality and workflow practices
Use a representative test page
Before documenting a release or handing a capture to a client, test the exact page type you will use: a long article, a page with a nested panel, an iframe, and (if relevant) a PDF viewer. Compare the exported file with the live page at the header, a middle section, and the final footer.
Pick the output deliberately
Use an image for visual review, issue reports, or a single long reference. Use PDF when readers need a document they can download or print. FireShot’s listing offers more image formats and editing; GoFullPage emphasizes straightforward image/PDF export.
Protect sensitive information
Capture only what you are authorized to share. Crop or annotate locally when needed, and inspect the final file for account names, tokens, email addresses, and hidden content that was visible during the scroll.
