It is not the same as Memory Boot Mode, which controls how the firmware detects and trains memory during startup. If you are unsure which profile to use, start with Auto.
What Memory Initialization Mode does
Gigabyte’s G1.Sniper Z5 manual describes Memory Initialization Mode as a setting to “configure memory timing profile for different frequency memory,” with Auto as the default and Normal Speed, High Speed, and Extreme Speed as the other options.
In practical terms, Auto leaves the firmware to choose a compatible profile. Normal Speed is the more conservative choice, while High Speed and Extreme Speed request more aggressive memory timing behavior. The exact options and their effects depend on the motherboard model and BIOS version; consult the manual for your exact board revision rather than assuming the labels behave identically across Gigabyte systems.
How to choose a profile
| Option | What to expect | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Auto (default in the cited G1.Sniper Z5 manual) | Firmware selects a compatible profile. | Recommended starting point if you have no specific tuning target. |
| Normal Speed | A more conservative performance choice. | Consider it if you want to avoid more aggressive timing behavior. |
| High Speed | Requests more aggressive timing behavior. | Use only when you are deliberately tuning and can verify stability. |
| Extreme Speed | Requests the most aggressive behavior among the options listed in the cited manual. | Use only with a known target and a way to recover settings if the system fails to start. |
These labels are not a universal overclock guarantee, and the available profiles are model- and BIOS-dependent. The result also depends on the DIMM kit, CPU memory controller, and firmware. Gigabyte does not publish measured performance gains for these options in the cited manual, so do not assume a particular speed increase.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Memory Initialization Mode vs. Memory Boot Mode
Memory Initialization Mode chooses a timing profile. Memory Boot Mode is a separate control for memory detection and training during startup.
Gigabyte’s Intel 800-series BIOS guide says Memory Boot Mode provides memory detection and training methods. It lists Auto, Normal, Enable Fast Boot, and Disable Fast Boot: Normal automatically performs memory training; Enable Fast Boot skips detection and training under some criteria; Disable Fast Boot detects and trains memory at every boot. These Memory Boot Mode options should not be confused with the similarly named timing profiles.

Why the first boot after a RAM change can take longer
A longer startup after changing memory speed or related settings is often the firmware training the memory, not a delay caused simply by choosing a profile. Gigabyte warns on its A620M H support page that higher memory speeds may increase memory-training time on the first boot. That board page documents dual-channel DDR5 DIMMs and AMD EXPO and Intel XMP support; verify the specifications and supported memory for your own board revision before applying a kit’s profile.
What to do if a profile prevents startup
- Give the system time to complete memory training after the first change. A longer initial boot can be expected at higher memory speeds.
- If the PC repeatedly fails to POST, loops during startup, or shows a DRAM debug light, return the setting to Auto or load optimized defaults if you can reach BIOS.
- If you cannot reach BIOS, follow the exact motherboard manual’s instructions to clear CMOS and restore firmware defaults. Gigabyte warns that memory-timing changes can make a system unstable or unbootable and advises restoring defaults or clearing CMOS.
- Once the system starts reliably, check that the DIMM kit is supported for your motherboard revision, CPU, and BIOS before trying a more aggressive profile again.
Check memory compatibility before tuning
For a board that supports DDR5 with XMP or EXPO, the relevant compatibility check is whether the particular DIMM kit is supported by that motherboard revision and CPU/BIOS combination. Use the board’s support information to confirm memory type, capacity, speed, and profile support; a profile setting cannot make an incompatible kit guaranteed to work.
