Memoe is described by its creator, Yisrael Gottlieb, as a voice-first Mac interface that puts AI tools behind a notch-centered assistant instead of a conventional chat box. His DEV Community article says it can connect to Claude Code, Codex CLI, an API key, or local models through LM Studio or Ollama. What Memoe is meant to do
In his DEV Community article, Yisrael Gottlieb presents Memoe as an assistant that lives in the Mac notch and can be invoked by voice across apps. He describes wake-word activation and push-to-talk, with turn-taking intended to let a person speak naturally rather than type prompts into a chat window.
The assistant is described as able to interact with Mac apps through a sequence of mechanisms: structured data, scripting, menus, keyboard shortcuts, accessibility elements, and, as a last resort, pixel interaction. How its AI components are described
Gottlieb says Memoe uses NVIDIA’s Parakeet speech-to-text model, converted to CoreML, plus a smaller Parakeet streaming model for detecting the end of an utterance. The article also names speaker diarization and Kokoro for spoken responses. The author says these speech components run on Apple Neural Engine hardware, with no cloud call for speech. These technical and privacy claims have not been independently verified.

For the assistant runtime, Gottlieb names Hermes Agent from Nous Research, which he says is licensed under MIT. He describes Hermes Agent as a separate process that Memoe contacts over HTTP at 127.0.0.1. He also says Memoe’s URLSession proxy configuration is intended to prevent a system-wide proxy from seeing mail or memory. That is a security implication of the author’s description, not a verified guarantee; readers handling sensitive information should not treat it as an independent security assessment.

Memory, permissions, and stopping actions
Gottlieb describes Memoe’s memory as a plain-text file on disk. He says each line records where it came from, and that users can open, edit, or delete entries. This may make the stored information easier to inspect than an opaque memory store, but the article does not independently establish what data is retained or how every integration handles it.
The author says Memoe displays outgoing content and waits for approval before sending anything as the user. He also says touching the trackpad while the assistant is working stops it. These are claimed safeguards, not tested findings. For consequential actions, review the displayed content and verify what the software will do before approving it.
