First clarify what you are migrating: ScrapeOps offers both a Proxy API endpoint and a separate proxy-port integration. If your scraper currently uses the proxy port, moving to the ScrapeOps endpoint changes the client integration but not the provider. If you are leaving ScrapeOps, you must also replace provider-specific credentials, parameters, and potentially response behavior. This guide uses ScraperAPI’s documented synchronous endpoint as a concrete destination example; it does not establish that ScraperAPI is a drop-in replacement or outperforms ScrapeOps.
Identify the integration you have today
Before changing code, find every place your application uses ScrapeOps credentials or connection settings. The key distinction is whether requests go to the ScrapeOps Proxy API endpoint, https://proxy.scrapeops.io/v1/, or through a proxy port. ScrapeOps documents both approaches; the endpoint accepts a target URL and handles proxy selection and rotation. These are different client setups even when they serve the same scraping task.
- Already using the Proxy API endpoint: You have an HTTP request to the ScrapeOps host with provider parameters such as
api_keyandurl. - Using the proxy port: Your HTTP client is configured to route target-site requests through a proxy. Moving to an API endpoint means changing how requests are issued, not merely swapping a hostname.
- Using a Parser API or structured Data API: Treat this as a distinct migration. ScrapeOps lists these separately from its Proxy API Aggregator, and fetching HTML from another endpoint does not establish equivalent structured output.
Record the current request method and body, target URL patterns, enabled features, expected response, error handling, timeout and retry policy, and downstream fields your parser relies on. Include target query strings in that inventory: ScrapeOps warns that the target URL must be encoded so its query parameters are not mistaken for parameters to the proxy API.
Choose the migration path and destination
Switching from the ScrapeOps proxy port to its endpoint
If you are staying with ScrapeOps, follow its current Proxy API quick start and replace the proxy-port configuration with an HTTP request to its endpoint. Its documented endpoint supports GET and POST and uses api_key and url. Keep the target URL properly encoded, especially when it contains its own query parameters. Do not assume this path applies to ScrapeOps Parser API or Data APIs.

Moving to another provider
A provider change involves replacing at least the host, credential, and parameter handling. This guide’s example uses ScraperAPI’s synchronous endpoint, https://api.scraperapi.com, with api_key and url. Obtain a separate key for that service and store it in an environment variable or secret manager; never reuse or expose the ScrapeOps key. ScraperAPI’s endpoint documentation lists optional controls including render=true, country_code, premium, and session_number. The service reference says to put service parameters before url.
Do not treat similarly named controls as equivalent. ScrapeOps documents examples such as render_js=true, country, and residential; ScraperAPI uses different parameter names and documents different controls. Names alone do not establish equivalent rendering, geography, proxy type, billing, or session behavior.
Build a small destination adapter
Keep provider-specific request construction in one function or module. This makes it possible to run tests against the old and new integrations without spreading endpoint details through the scraper.
Python example
import os
import requests
SCRAPERAPI_KEY = os.environ["SCRAPERAPI_KEY"]
def fetch_html(target_url: str) -> str:
response = requests.get(
"https://api.scraperapi.com",
params={
"api_key": SCRAPERAPI_KEY,
"url": target_url,
# Enable only when the target or application requires them:
# "render": "true",
# "country_code": "us",
},
timeout=70,
)
response.raise_for_status()
return response.text
html = fetch_html("https://example.com/products?category=books")
The endpoint and parameters are documented by ScraperAPI. Its overview recommends a 70-second application timeout; confirm that recommendation against the provider’s current guidance and your own job deadline. The example uses a query-string target to show why the HTTP library should encode parameters rather than assembling a query string manually.

cURL example
export SCRAPERAPI_KEY='YOUR_API_KEY'
curl --get 'https://api.scraperapi.com'
--data-urlencode "api_key=$SCRAPERAPI_KEY"
--data-urlencode 'url=https://example.com/products?category=books'
For a target requiring a documented option, add that option as its own parameter; do not place it inside the target URL unless the target itself needs it.
Node.js example
const apiKey = process.env.SCRAPERAPI_KEY;
if (!apiKey) throw new Error("Set SCRAPERAPI_KEY first");
const params = new URLSearchParams({
api_key: apiKey,
url: "https://example.com/products?category=books",
// render: "true",
// country_code: "us",
});
const response = await fetch(`https://api.scraperapi.com?${params}`, {
signal: AbortSignal.timeout(70_000),
});
if (!response.ok) {
throw new Error(`Scraping API returned HTTP ${response.status}`);
}
const html = await response.text();
These examples show synchronous HTML retrieval. If your current implementation depends on POST bodies, a proxy port, an SDK, parser output, or structured records, verify that the destination supports the same request shape and result contract before adapting this code.
Map only the features your scraper needs
Create an explicit mapping from each enabled ScrapeOps option to the destination’s current documented control. Then test it against the pages and countries that matter to your application.
| Need | ScrapeOps example | ScraperAPI documented option | Migration check |
|---|---|---|---|
| JavaScript-rendered pages | render_js=true |
render=true |
Compare rendered DOM content and parsed fields; the names do not prove identical behavior. |
| Country targeting | country |
country_code |
Confirm required countries and test representative targets. |
| Proxy tier | residential |
premium |
Do not assume the proxy classes or billing are equivalent; check current provider references. |
| Session behavior | Not established here as an equivalent option | session_number |
Verify persistence requirements and behavior for your workflow. |
| Output shape | Proxy response, or separate Parser/Data API output | Synchronous endpoint response | Check content type, body format, parser assumptions, and structured fields. |
The table is a starting point, not a compatibility guarantee. For any option without a documented one-to-one match, consult current vendor documentation and test rather than translating names by intuition.

Validate behavior before production cutover
- Build a representative URL set. Include ordinary pages, URLs with query strings, pages that need JavaScript rendering, and country- or session-specific cases used by the application.
- Run both adapters where practical. Use a limited or shadowed rollout so the new provider’s response can be inspected without immediately replacing all production traffic.
- Compare useful output, not just status codes. Check returned page content, expected selectors, extracted fields, and data types. ScrapeOps notes that a 200 response can still have rendering issues when the target relies on JavaScript.
- Exercise failure handling. Observe timeouts, provider errors, retries, concurrency, and usage behavior under your application’s actual workload. Ensure a failed fetch cannot silently become valid-looking empty data.
- Define acceptance criteria and cut over deliberately. Switch production only when the required fields and operational behavior meet your own criteria. Retain a straightforward rollback to the previous adapter until the new path is stable.
This is an implementation approach, not a vendor-tested cross-provider recipe. The ScraperAPI overview recommends a 70-second client timeout and documents a 50 MB request-size limit; those are ScraperAPI-specific references, not shared defaults. Set timeouts and payload limits according to current vendor guidance and your application’s deadline.
Compare reliability and total cost on your workload
There is no established like-for-like price or independent benchmark here that proves one provider is faster, cheaper, or more reliable overall. Measure the target domains and features your scraper actually uses. Compare completion rate, useful parsed output, latency against your job deadline, required rendering and geography, session behavior, operational error rate, and total spend for your traffic mix.
ScrapeOps’ Proxy API FAQ says a request can use 1 to 70 API credits depending on functionality and target domain, and that successful responses are chargeable. The FAQ’s year is not stated. This is vendor billing guidance, not a fixed price per page or a currency amount; obtain current plan details from both providers before forecasting spend.
- Estimate volume by target domain and feature set, not only by raw request count.
- Include retries and unsuccessful requests in your observed workload and in any provider-specific billing calculation.
- Confirm current commercial terms directly with each provider; do not convert credits into currency without a current pricing source.
- Re-test after changing rendering, proxy tier, or geography settings because these can affect both response behavior and credit use.
Troubleshooting common migration failures
The API says a required parameter is missing
Check that the destination request uses its own required parameter names and credential. The ScraperAPI example requires api_key and url; do not carry over ScrapeOps parameter names or credentials. Keep provider parameters before url as its reference directs.

The target URL is truncated or its query string changes
Use your HTTP client’s parameter encoder, URLSearchParams, or cURL’s --data-urlencode. A target URL has its own query string inside the API request, so manual concatenation can cause parameters to be parsed at the wrong level.
The response is successful but parsed data is missing
Inspect the returned body, not only the HTTP status. The page may need JavaScript rendering, may have changed markup, or may return a different shape than the old Parser or Data API. Enable the destination’s documented rendering option only when needed, then compare the DOM and downstream parsed fields.
Country or session-specific pages differ
Verify that the destination documents the needed country or session control and that the application sends it correctly. Do not assume ScrapeOps’ country or residential behavior maps exactly to ScraperAPI’s country_code, premium, or session_number.
Requests exceed the job deadline
Align the client timeout with the provider’s current recommendation and the application’s own deadline. ScraperAPI’s overview recommends 70 seconds, but your scheduler may impose a shorter limit. Set bounded retries and avoid retrying indefinitely; verify the effect under normal workload before cutover.

The new endpoint returns HTML where code expects records
Check whether the old integration used ScrapeOps Parser API or a structured Data API. A generic scraping endpoint that returns page content is not evidence of equivalent parsed records. Add or retain the parsing stage explicitly unless the destination documents a compatible structured response.
Or skip the browser setup
If your task is capturing website screenshots or PDFs rather than extracting page data, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For API details, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does migrating to a web scraping API mean leaving ScrapeOps?
No. ScrapeOps documents both its own Proxy API endpoint and a separate proxy-port integration; moving from the port to its endpoint can be an integration change within ScrapeOps.
Is ScraperAPI a drop-in replacement for ScrapeOps?
The documented endpoints and options differ, and no drop-in compatibility is established. Validate request behavior, response content, parsing, and operational limits before switching.
