What happened to Microsoft SaRA?
Microsoft says it removed the SaRA command-line utility from all in-support Windows versions in updates released on and after March 10, 2026. The change is not limited to Windows 11, and it does not mean that all Windows help or troubleshooting has ended.
Microsoft’s KB 5086902, published March 31, 2026, says the utility was deprecated “to help secure and harden your environment.” The support article identifies Get Help command line as the recommended replacement for SaRA command-line tasks: Microsoft Support: SaRA command-line utility is deprecated (KB 5086902).
What replaced Microsoft SaRA?
Microsoft’s replacement is Get Help command line, whose executable is named GetHelpCmd.exe. Microsoft says its scenarios support the tasks previously handled by SaRACmdLine and describes the new infrastructure as having improved security. That is Microsoft’s description of scenario coverage; it does not establish that every workflow or behavior is identical.

How do I use GetHelpCmd.exe?
Get Help command line is distributed as a ZIP package. Download it from the Microsoft Learn page, extract it, then run the executable with the switch for the scenario you need. Microsoft’s documentation provides scenario examples, scripts for running them, and instructions for collecting logs; use that current documentation rather than relying on an old copy of the binary.
- Open the Get Help command-line documentation and follow its current download link.
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file to a location you can access from Command Prompt or your script.
- Choose the documented scenario switch that matches your issue and run
GetHelpCmd.exewith it. Use Microsoft’s examples for command syntax rather than guessing a switch. - If you need records for support or investigation, follow Microsoft’s documented log-collection steps.

The documented command-line scenarios are not available for new Outlook or new Teams. Check the app version on the affected device before choosing a scenario: a tool labeled “Outlook” or “Teams” does not necessarily apply to every current version of those apps.

Microsoft says each Get Help command-line build expires 90 days after the Created date shown in GetHelpCmd.exe. This is an expiry rule for each command-line build, not a stated 90-day lifespan for all Microsoft support tools. If a build has expired, return to Microsoft’s download link for the latest available version.
