What you need before building the workflow
- An n8n instance with permission to create credentials and workflows.
- A Browserless API token for the hosted example. The token is passed as the
tokenquery parameter. - The URL you want to capture, reachable by the browser service.
- A destination for the resulting binary, such as cloud storage, email, a database, or an HTTP endpoint.
Browserless describes its REST APIs as single-request browser tasks, so you do not have to operate browser infrastructure for this approach. The available documentation does not establish comparative cost, privacy, latency, regional availability, quotas, or reliability versus self-hosting; check the current service terms before sizing a production workflow.
Build the basic n8n screenshot workflow
1. Choose a trigger
For a recurring capture, add a Schedule Trigger and set the interval required by your project. For an event-driven capture, use the trigger that receives the event—such as a webhook, form submission, or app trigger. The screenshot-specific documentation does not prescribe a schedule, so choose the cadence and timezone that match your business process.
- Create a new workflow in n8n.
- Add your trigger node and test it so the workflow can run once while you configure the request.
- Connect the trigger to an HTTP Request node.
2. Configure the HTTP Request node
Set the request as follows:

The endpoint returns image data. PNG is the default; set options.type to "jpeg" or "webp" for those formats. The documented example also shows fullPage: true. Keep the response as binary when the next node expects a file. If the next step accepts text instead, Browserless documents a base64 response option; select the equivalent response mode available in your current n8n version and verify the resulting field with a test execution.

3. Store the token safely
Create an n8n credential for the secret or use the HTTP Request node’s credential field, then map the credential to the request’s token query parameter. Never commit a real token to exported JSON, screenshots of your workflow, or a shared template. If you must pass a value from a credential into a parameter, confirm the expression resolves to the secret at execution time without writing it to ordinary item data.
4. Test and connect the output
- Execute the HTTP Request node with a public page such as
https://www.example.com. - Inspect the execution output. A successful image response should appear as binary data, with a content type matching PNG, JPEG, or WebP.
- Add the destination node and select the HTTP Request node’s binary property. The exact property label depends on your n8n version and node configuration.
- Run the complete workflow from the trigger, then activate it only after checking the stored file, message attachment, or downstream record.
For multiple pages, place URLs in separate items and let the HTTP Request node process each item, or generate the items with a Code or Set node. Keep concurrency and service limits in mind; the available documentation does not state Browserless quotas or throughput limits.

Other Puppeteer-style settings may be accepted by the endpoint, but do not assume a setting is available without checking the current Browserless API documentation. Validate dimensions, waits, authentication, and dynamic-content behavior against your target page before relying on the capture in production.

Pass a URL from earlier n8n data
If an upstream node outputs a field named url, replace the literal URL with an n8n expression in the JSON body. In the HTTP Request node’s JSON editor, use the expression form provided by your n8n release, for example:

Test with a known URL first. A missing, malformed, or non-string value can produce a failed browser request rather than a useful image.
Troubleshoot common failures
401 or authentication errors
Check that the token is present as the token query parameter, has not been truncated, and is being read from the intended n8n credential. Re-save the credential and execute the node alone to isolate expression problems.
400 or invalid-request errors
Confirm the method is POST, the body is valid JSON, and the URL is inside the JSON body rather than only in the query string. Check commas, quotation marks, and the spelling of fullPage and type.

The workflow succeeds but no image file appears
The response may have been treated as text or JSON. Configure the HTTP Request node to return binary data, execute it again, and inspect the binary output before connecting the storage node. Use the base64 response mode only when a downstream node specifically requires text.
The page is blank or incomplete
The target may require JavaScript, authentication, a longer load time, or a browser-visible interaction. Confirm the URL works from an ordinary browser and review the service’s current screenshot options for waiting and navigation controls. The supplied integration material does not define a universal wait value.
Scheduled executions do not run
Save and activate the workflow, verify the n8n instance timezone, and check that the trigger is connected to the HTTP Request node. A manual test does not activate a schedule by itself.
Large files or slow runs
Full-page images can be substantially larger than viewport captures. Choose WebP when your destination supports it, avoid unnecessary full-page captures, and add downstream retention or compression. Because current Browserless limits and pricing were not established in the available material, monitor executions and consult the provider before promising a fixed throughput or cost.
