For a selected part of a webpage, press Windows+Shift+S. For the entire webpage—including content below the fold—use Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot → Capture full page. Those are different from a full-screen capture: Windows+PrtScn saves the current display, not the whole scrolling page.
Choose the capture you actually need
A webpage can be captured at three useful scopes:

Windows’ Snipping Tool documentation covers Windows 10 and Windows 11, but exact menus can vary by release. A visible-screen capture never automatically extends through a long page.
Take a selected-area screenshot with Windows+Shift+S
- Open the webpage and scroll so the material you need is visible.
- Press Windows logo key+Shift+S. The Snipping Tool overlay appears.
- Choose rectangular, freeform, window or full-screen snip mode, then make the selection. For a webpage fragment, rectangular mode is usually easiest.
- Select the notification or open Snipping Tool to review the image.
- Edit or annotate if required. Press Ctrl+S in Snipping Tool to choose a filename and location.
This method captures pixels currently displayed by Windows. If the page is longer than the browser window, repeat the capture after scrolling or use Edge’s full-page feature below.
Clipboard versus saved-file shortcuts
- PrtSc: takes a static image of the entire screen and places it on the clipboard. Paste it into an editor, document or chat.
- Windows+PrtScn: captures the entire screen and saves the file directly in the Screenshots subfolder of Pictures on supported configurations.
On some keyboards the key is labeled PrtSc, PrtScn or Print Screen. Laptop layouts may require the manufacturer’s Fn key as well.

Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the target page in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Open Edge’s Screenshot feature. Depending on the release, it may be available from the browser menu or the page context menu. Older Microsoft material calls the same feature Web Capture.
- Choose Capture full page, not the area-only option.
- Review the resulting long image. Use Edge’s markup tools if you need to draw or highlight something.
- Copy the result or save it to a file from the Screenshot interface.
Edge’s Screenshot feature is intended for full pages and selected areas, including long or moving webpages, and provides markup, copy and save actions. Button placement and wording can change between Edge releases.
If Screenshot is missing
On a work or school computer, an administrator can disable the feature with the WebCaptureEnabled policy. Check the browser menu first, then ask your administrator whether the device is managed. A missing command does not necessarily mean your keyboard shortcut is broken.
Use Edge DevTools as a technical fallback
When the normal Screenshot command is unavailable or you need a developer workflow, Edge DevTools documents a Capture a full size screenshot option. Open DevTools for the page, open its command tools, and select that full-size capture command. This produces an image including content outside the current viewport, but DevTools has more controls and a steeper learning curve than the standard Screenshot feature.

Use Print when an image is not the real requirement
For archiving an article, reading offline or sending a document to a printer, press Ctrl+P in Edge or open the browser menu and choose Print. Inspect the print preview, destination, page range and layout before saving or printing. Print output is designed for paper or PDF pagination; it is not equivalent to a single, pixel-for-pixel webpage screenshot.
Make full-page captures more reliable
Load the page before capturing
Scroll through pages that use lazy-loaded images before choosing Capture full page. Otherwise an image that has not been requested yet may not appear in the result. Let fonts, charts and embedded media finish loading, and close transient menus that you do not want included.
Capture the correct state
- Sign in first if the page is private and your account is authorized to view it.
- Set the browser zoom and window width deliberately; responsive layouts can change the page’s appearance.
- Dismiss cookie notices, newsletter dialogs and chat bubbles when they obscure content, unless those elements are what you are documenting.
- For a moving page, pause animation where possible and capture again if a transition cuts through the image.
Check the result
Look at the top, middle and bottom of a long capture. Confirm that sticky headers have not obscured text, images are present and the file opens in the application you plan to use. If only the visible viewport appears, you used a screen snip rather than a full-page command.
Common problems and fixes
