This Itechguide teaches you how to find the publisher of a website. The guide discusses the commons places to look when you need to find the publisher of a website.

Option 1: Use the Article Author’s Information to Find the Publisher

Most articles will display the author of the article at the top of the article. In www.itechguides.com, for example, we include the author’s name of every article at the top of the article.

Moreover, for most websites, the author’s name will link to the author’s page – if you click on the link, you ca read more about the author.

You may also find the author’s information at the bottom of the article. However, some websites, like MakeUseOf.com may display this information on the top right of the sidebar.

The author information on the right sidebar or bottom of the article will usually have a short author biography. Some of them may also include the author’s social profiles. This may help you learn a bit more abut the person that wrote the article.

Option 2: Check the “About Us” and/or “Contact Us” Page of the Website

Another method to find the publisher of a website is to look at the “About Us” and/or “Contact Us” pages of the website. Most websites will provide the company that published the website on these pages.

The About page may also include the country the company is registered, the CEO and management team, and even other contact information. This is a good place to find the publisher of the website.

One thing you may find though is that the About Us and Contact Us links may not available on the top of the page. Most websites will have these links on the footer. Here is Cisco.com – these pages are at the footer.

However, when you open the About Us page, you will find all the useful information about the publisher of the website. The image below is a section of Cisco’s About us page.

The page has links to the company’s history, the Executive team, and other useful information about the site/company.

You can also find the publisher of a website by looking at either the site’s privacy or T&Cs pages.

Option 3: Use Whois Search to find the Publisher

Finally, another way to find the publisher of a website is to perform a Whois search. Every time somebody registers a domain, the domain registrar makes some of the domain registrant’s information publicly available. This is an ICANN.org requirement.

However, some domain registrars offer the option to hide certain information like the registrant’s email and address. When a domain registrant pays the registrar to keep the registrant’s information away from the public, the registrar will display their own information instead.

Having said that, most websites may still display their information publicly on the Whois database. So, the Whois database is still one of the best places to find the publisher of a website.

There are so many Whois search providers but I find EasyWhois.com up to date. To perform a Whois search with EasyWhois.com:

  • Visit EasyWhois.com, type the website you want to search and click Whois Lookup.
  • The site will display available Whois information about the domain. Here is the Whois information for www.itechguides.com – this is the information available publicly.

You can use the steps covered in this Itechguide to find the publisher of a website! I hope you found this Itechguide helpful.
