The RayCue 128K is a USB-C docking station designed to look like a miniature Macintosh 128K. Its 3.5-inch customizable display and port selection give it a distinctive desktop role, but choosing the right version matters: the standard 128K, 128K Pro and 128K SE are not interchangeable, especially for external displays and laptop charging.
What is the RayCue 128K?
It is a modern USB-C dock with retro styling—not an original Apple Macintosh and not a computer that runs classic Mac software. RayCue describes the 3.5-inch IPS screen as customizable, with uses including displaying the time, calendar, music interfaces, photos and custom images. Its current product page also mentions video playback. These are vendor descriptions, not independent performance findings. RayCue’s current product page presents the dock as a desktop accessory for connecting peripherals and displays.
The name covers more than one configuration. RayCue currently lists the 128K and 128K Pro; TechRadar’s September 2026 coverage concerns a distinct 128K SE. Check the exact model and revision rather than assuming that a feature or port count applies to every product bearing the 128K name.

RayCue says the standard 128K is aimed at MacBook users who need one extended external display. Confirm that your particular MacBook supports the display resolution and connection method you need; the product-family description alone does not establish compatibility with every MacBook.

MacBook with two or three external displays
RayCue directs MacBook buyers who need two or three external displays toward the Pro. However, monitor count does not by itself tell you whether screens will extend the desktop independently or mirror the same content. In TechRadar’s account of the SE, its connected displays mirror on macOS, rather than providing three separate extended desktops. Treat that SE report as variant-specific, and verify the exact Pro configuration and your Mac model before relying on a multi-monitor setup.
Windows laptop
RayCue says the standard 128K is suitable for a Windows laptop with DisplayPort Alt Mode. TechRadar describes the SE as supporting up to three 4K external displays for Windows owners. Those statements concern different variants and are not a guarantee for every laptop: check the host’s USB-C video capability, supported display modes and the exact dock revision.

ChromeOS or another host
RayCue’s October 2023 launch article listed Windows 10 or later, ChromeOS 100 or later and macOS 11 or later as compatible. Those are historical, launch-era vendor statements; the current product page describes revisions, so they should not be treated as a verified compatibility list for every current SKU. Ports, charging and screen features: check the revision
RayCue’s current page includes family-level descriptions of 14 docking ports, a speaker, DisplayLink support and a bundled seven-port portable hub. It also distinguishes the standard 128K from Pro on display support and charging, and says the latest version removed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and touchscreen features while adding video playback. Because these descriptions span products and revisions, they do not establish that every current 128K includes all listed hardware.

The launch-era October 2023 overview described front TF/SD card slots, two USB 3.0 ports, USB-C and a 3.5 mm audio connection; the rear was described as having USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, RJ45, power input, a USB-C host connection and HDMI. That article said the Pro had three HDMI outputs versus two on the base model. These are historical descriptions, not a reliable inventory for an unspecified current SKU. Check the exact product listing for port layout, charging and bundled accessories before ordering.

TechRadar reported the 128K SE at Amazon for $85.99 against a listed $99.99 on 28 September 2026, describing it as an early Prime Day deal. That was a dated promotion for the SE, not necessarily the standard 128K or Pro, and the offer may have ended. For historical context, RayCue’s 10 October 2023 article listed Kickstarter prices of $169 for the standard 128K, $199 for the 128K Pro and $229 for a Pro bundle with the keyboard-shaped portable hub, with delivery then expected in December 2023. Those were launch-era crowdfunding prices and schedules, not current purchase terms. What to confirm before buying
- Variant and revision: identify whether the listing is for 128K, 128K Pro or 128K SE.
- Host connection: verify your laptop’s USB-C video support and the dock’s requirements; for the standard 128K on Windows, RayCue specifies DisplayPort Alt Mode.
- Display behavior: distinguish independent desktop extension from mirroring, and confirm the supported number of displays for your operating system and model.
- Charging: RayCue says 100 W laptop charging is supported only by Pro; confirm the current product listing and your laptop’s needs.
- Exact contents: confirm the ports, screen features and included accessories for the particular SKU instead of relying on family-level or launch-era descriptions.
- Price and seller: verify current price, availability, seller and return terms on the live listing.
For a desk that needs only a few extra ports and one monitor, TechRadar considers this dock excessive unless its extra connectivity or multi-monitor capabilities are useful. Its retro appearance is a design feature; the practical reason to choose it should be the exact dock functionality your setup needs.
