The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro is worth considering if you regularly take portraits or photograph distant subjects: its standout feature is a dedicated 50 MP 3x telephoto camera. If you rarely zoom, the standard Phone (3a) may be the better value, since the Pro’s camera is the main reason to pay more. The right choice depends on the price gap where you live and whether you are comfortable with the Pro’s large circular camera module.

What is the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro’s main advantage?

Its rear camera system combines a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP 3x telephoto camera, and an 8 MP ultrawide camera, according to The Guardian’s March 2025 review. The telephoto camera gives you a dedicated longer focal length for portraits and more distant subjects, rather than relying only on the main camera’s view. The Guardian described it as a standout feature for the price segment.

That does not make the Pro the automatic choice for every photographer. If most of your pictures are everyday scenes taken with the main camera, or wide views captured with the ultrawide, the telephoto upgrade may not justify a higher local price. Consider how often you would actually use 3x zoom before comparing prices.

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro pros

A useful dedicated 3x telephoto camera

The 50 MP telephoto camera is the clearest reason to choose the Pro over the standard Phone (3a). It is especially relevant if you take portraits or often want to frame a subject from farther away. The Guardian’s review praised this camera as an uncommon strength at this price level.

A well-rounded everyday package, according to reviewers

The Guardian also praised the display, software, performance, battery life, fingerprint reader, and design. Those are that publication’s review judgments, not guarantees that every buyer will prefer the phone’s screen, feel, or software experience.

Battery capacity and charging shared with the Phone (3a)

Android Authority’s 2025 review reports a 5,000 mAh battery and 50 W wired charging for both the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro. These shared specifications mean the Pro’s principal upgrade is its camera, not a larger battery or faster wired charging than the standard model.

Reported software-support policy

WIRED’s 2025 review reported three Android OS updates and six years of security updates. Treat those figures as the policy reported at the time, and confirm Nothing’s current support terms for the regional model before buying.

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro cons

The camera premium may not pay off for everyone

Android Authority said it would steer most buyers toward the less expensive Phone (3a), reasoning that the Pro’s camera may not be worth the price difference for people who do not prioritize it. That is the reviewer’s value judgment, not a universal verdict: frequent telephoto users may reasonably place more value on the Pro’s camera.

The camera module is physically prominent

The Guardian describes a thick, circular camera assembly. Its size and shape may affect how the phone feels in a pocket or in your hand; consider whether the design suits you rather than treating the camera bump as a purely visual detail.

Water protection should not be mistaken for immersion protection

The Guardian characterizes the phone as splash resistant. That description does not establish that it is safe to submerge. Check the official regional listing for the exact water-resistance rating before relying on a specific level of protection.

Is the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro worth it?

Choose the Pro if you expect to use its dedicated 3x telephoto camera regularly, like its distinctive design, and find the local price difference reasonable for that upgrade. Consider the standard Phone (3a) if you rarely zoom, want to spend less, or would rather avoid the Pro’s conspicuous camera module. Both are reported to share the same battery capacity and wired charging, so weigh the decision around the camera and the actual price gap.
