Choose by the kind of laugh you want
For sharp social observation
Choose Seinfeld if you want comedy rooted in everyday encounters rather than a big ongoing premise. The show centers on Jerry and his friends in New York, with stand-up and daily-life scenes.
For ensemble and workplace comedy
Brooklyn Nine-Nine puts a group of detectives in a workplace setting, adding the structure of a crime precinct to its comedy. It is a natural starting point if you like an ensemble cast and workplace dynamics.

#1 Best Overall
- Factory sealed DVD
For family chaos and farce
Arrested Development makes a family’s dysfunction the engine of its jokes: one son tries to hold things together after his father’s imprisonment. The Upshaws is a better match if you want a working-class family setting and the familiar rhythm of a laugh track.
For teen comedy with context
Derry Girls follows school friends in 1990s Northern Ireland. Its setting places the comedy in the final years of the Troubles, so it is not simply a setting-free school sitcom.

First unleashed in 1989, theic British series emerged from Rowan Atkinson's stage performances which featured the silent, physically outrageous comic acting that won him an International Emmy Award, a Cable Ace Award, the Golden Rose of
For friendship and relationships
Grace and Frankie begins with a major relationship rupture and follows an unlikely friendship between two women who had been rivals. Pick it for character-focused comedy that makes room for relationship upheaval.
For a family-friendly starting point
Young Sheldon combines a family-sitcom setup with a prequel story about Sheldon Cooper as a child prodigy in East Texas. The premise may appeal if you want a family-centered show, but the recommendation alone is not an age-rating guide; check the title’s details for your household.

More Netflix sitcoms to consider
Netflix Tudum’s longer recommendation list includes additional options that broaden the choice beyond live-action family and workplace shows:
- Big Mouth and BoJack Horseman: animated comedy options. Animation does not automatically mean a show is suitable for children, so check each title’s details before choosing for family viewing.
- Fuller House: a family sequel series.
- Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: a heightened New York comedy.
- Younger: comedy involving identity and the publishing world.
- That ’90s Show: a teen sequel series.

Check whether a sitcom is available in your country
The picks above are a U.S.-catalog snapshot based on Netflix’s TV Sitcoms page accessed October 4, 2026. Netflix Tudum notes that the number of recommendations may vary by region, and catalog pages can change. Search for the title in your own Netflix app or local Netflix site before settling on a watchlist; a show appearing in a U.S. category does not establish that it is available elsewhere.
