Rubrik’s “undo button” for AI-agent mistakes is Agent Rewind, an enterprise recovery capability in Rubrik Agent Cloud—not a universal command that reverses any agent action. Rubrik says it links agent activity to context such as prompts, plans, and tools, then enables targeted recovery of supported data and application changes. What it can restore depends on the platform and use case.
What Agent Rewind does
Rubrik announced Agent Rewind on August 12, 2025, as a way to make AI-agent actions visible and auditable and to rewind changes to applications and data. Its launch description says the system maps agent behavior back to prompts, plans, and tools, then supports rollback for files, databases, configurations, and repositories. In its solution brief, Rubrik describes capturing agent inputs, memory, prompt chains, tool use, outputs, and modifications in an immutable audit trail. The stated recovery goal is to reverse the agent’s specific changes rather than restore an entire environment or affect unrelated work. How the “undo” metaphor should be understood
Think of Agent Rewind as a combination of activity tracing and recovery, not an all-purpose undo button. The visibility layer is meant to help an organization understand what an agent did and connect those actions to its instructions and tool calls. The recovery layer is intended to roll back selected changes to supported assets. That distinction matters: observing an action does not itself reverse it, and a rollback depends on the relevant asset and recovery path being supported and configured.

Rubrik’s launch release quoted BioIVT Chief Information Security Officer Chad Pallett saying Agent Rewind would “close the loop on what happened, why it happened, and how to undo it.” That is a customer endorsement published by Rubrik, not independent testing of the product. Rubrik’s announcement
What Rubrik says it can recover for Claude Code and Cowork
In a June 9, 2026 announcement about Rubrik Agent Cloud for Anthropic’s Claude Code and Claude Cowork, Rubrik described repository recovery for GitHub and Azure DevOps. The company says it maintains continuous immutable snapshots outside the repository and beyond compromised credentials. It presents force-pushing over commit history and deleting branches as examples of changes that version control alone may not undo, and describes one-click recovery of a repository or organization to a known-good state.

The same announcement describes backing up, tracking versions of, and restoring Claude agent configuration, including system prompts, tool permissions, skills, CLAUDE.md, and settings. How Agent Rewind fits into Rubrik Agent Cloud
Agent Rewind is one part of Rubrik’s broader Agent Cloud offering. In an August 4, 2026 announcement, Rubrik described four pillars: observability, identity, runtime security, and Agent Rewind. The identity expansion includes monitoring agents and MCP runtimes, controlling access at the individual tool-call level, and using short-lived scoped tokens. In practical terms, these functions address different stages of risk: observability helps track activity; identity and runtime controls govern who or what can act and which tools it can call; recovery aims to restore supported assets after unwanted changes. A buyer evaluating agent safeguards should ask whether a product only monitors activity or can also recover data, how it ties actions to prompts and tool calls, which assets it restores, and whether recovery is granular or environment-wide.
