1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGitHub’s “code scanning autofix” now refers to two related experiences, not one new feature. Classic Copilot Autofix suggests fixes for CodeQL alerts and became generally available to eligible GitHub Advanced Security customers in 2024. A separate agentic autofix entered public preview on July 10, 2026: it can investigate CodeQL and third-party scanning alerts, validate a proposed change by rerunning the original analysis, and open a draft pull request. Neither feature merges a fix automatically; people remain responsible for reviewing changes.
What GitHub means by code scanning autofix
Autofix is assistance for remediating security findings from code scanning. The important distinction is between a suggested code change for a CodeQL alert and the newer agentic workflow that can work across a codebase and prepare a pull request.
| Experience | Alert coverage | What it does | Status and access described by GitHub |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Copilot Autofix | CodeQL alerts | Provides a suggested fix that developers can accept, edit or reject. | Generally available to GitHub Advanced Security customers on GitHub.com since August 14, 2024. GitHub later made it free for public repositories using CodeQL code scanning; pull-request alert autofix is enabled by default for those repositories. |
| Agentic autofix | CodeQL and third-party code-scanning alerts | Explores relevant files, proposes a fix, reruns the original analysis, may iterate, and opens a draft pull request for review. | Public preview announced July 10, 2026. Requires an active GitHub Code Security or GitHub Advanced Security license and a Copilot license with Copilot cloud agent enabled. |
The dates and availability above reflect GitHub announcements; they do not establish current regional pricing or every plan’s terms. See GitHub’s 2024 general-availability announcement, its public-repository announcement, and the 2026 agentic preview announcement.
How the agentic preview works
- Assign an alert to Copilot. The workflow starts with an eligible code-scanning alert assigned to Copilot.
- Let it investigate and propose a change. Copilot explores relevant files and develops a proposed fix rather than limiting itself to a single isolated suggestion.
- Check the original finding. GitHub says the agent reruns the original analysis to see whether the alert closes, and can iterate if needed.
- Review the draft pull request. If it produces a fix, it opens a draft pull request for a developer to inspect. GitHub says generation typically takes 2–4 minutes; that is an estimate in its July 2026 announcement, not a guaranteed completion time.
Validation against the original analysis is useful evidence that the reported alert may be resolved, but it is not proof that a change is secure, correct in context, or free of regressions. Review the code and the pull request’s tests and implications before merging.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Who can use it and how administrators control it
For the July 2026 public preview, GitHub says an organization needs an active GitHub Code Security or GitHub Advanced Security license and a Copilot license with Copilot cloud agent enabled. GitHub also says organization and repository administrators can disable Copilot Autofix in settings, while enterprise policy can disable both classic and agentic experiences. The announcement does not establish that these requirements or controls apply identically to every later release or plan.
What the preview uses
Under the preview terms GitHub described in July 2026, agentic autofix draws down organization AI Credits only when a fix runs on an assigned alert. That usage is not itemized separately from other Copilot activity, and the workflow also consumes GitHub Actions minutes. These are dated preview terms, not a timeless price statement; check GitHub’s announcement for the terms it specified.

What GitHub’s reported results do—and do not—show
The available figures are GitHub-reported results tied to particular announcements and scopes, not independent proof that any generated fix is safe or correct.
- 2024 launch: GitHub said classic Autofix covered more than 90% of alert types in JavaScript, TypeScript, Java and Python, and that its suggestions showed remediation for more than two-thirds of found vulnerabilities with little or no editing. These were launch claims, not a current coverage guarantee. GitHub’s launch announcement
- 2024 beta-program data: GitHub reported that vulnerabilities with a fix suggestion were fixed 3× faster across all vulnerability types, 7× faster for cross-site scripting and 12× faster for SQL injection. Those are GitHub’s comparisons; they are not independent causal measurements. GitHub’s general-availability announcement
- 2025 expansion: GitHub said an expansion targeted a group representing 29% of CodeQL alerts, and reported an 8% overall increase in alerts with available autofixes alongside a 270% increase in autofixes for that targeted group. Those figures describe the expansion GitHub reported, not a universal outcome for every repository. GitHub’s expansion announcement
The sources cited here do not provide an independent evaluation or neutral quality ranking. Availability of an autofix is a starting point for review, not a substitute for it.

How to choose between the experiences
- For a CodeQL alert with classic Autofix: inspect the suggestion, make any necessary edits, and accept it only if the resulting change fits the surrounding code and resolves the issue.
- For an eligible alert in the agentic preview: use the generated draft pull request as a proposed remediation. Review the full diff, confirm the security behavior and relevant tests, and decide whether to revise or merge it.
- If no suggestion is available: that does not establish that the alert is a false positive or cannot be fixed. Investigate it using the normal code-review and remediation process.
For public repositories using CodeQL, GitHub’s 2024 announcement said pull-request alert autofix was enabled by default, while developers could accept, partially accept or reject suggestions; historical alerts could be addressed on demand. That public-repository availability is distinct from the licensed requirements GitHub stated for the 2026 agentic preview.
