To get alerts for activity on Reddit, sign in and open Settings > Notifications on desktop, or open Settings > Manage notifications in the mobile app. Turn on the activity types you want. For email delivery, configure email preferences separately. Reddit’s comment alert for your own post covers comments made directly on the post—not replies to someone else’s comment.
Choose the right kind of Reddit alert
The setup depends on what you want to follow. Personal notifications cover activity Reddit associates with your account and posts; email is a separate delivery option; moderators can configure alerts for a community they manage; search helps find existing posts and comments but is not documented as a recurring keyword-alert service.
| Need | Use | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Activity on your account or your posts | Personal notification settings | Direct comments and nested replies are not covered identically. |
| Activity delivered by email | Email preferences | Only the enabled email categories are sent. |
| New posts or posts with comments in a community you moderate | Mod Notifications | Rate limits and exclusions apply. |
| Find existing topic-related posts or comments | Reddit search | Search is not established as a recurring alert service. |
Turn on personal notifications on desktop
- Sign in to Reddit.
- Open Settings and select the Notifications tab.
- Review the available notification types and enable the ones relevant to you.
- If you also want email alerts, configure the relevant categories in your email preferences; notification settings and email settings are separate.
Reddit’s notification settings page says notification availability periods can range from 1 to 365 days, and most notifications disappear after 7 days. Treat the notification list as temporary history, not a permanent archive. Reddit Help: Notifications
Turn on personal notifications in the Reddit app
- Open the profile or avatar menu.
- Go to Settings, then open the account settings.
- Choose Manage notifications and enable the activity types you want.
On Android, Reddit documents this route under Contact settings; on iOS, the help instructions direct users through account settings to manage notifications. Intermediate labels can vary by app version. Reddit Help: Notifications

What alerts you get for comments on your own post
Reddit’s documented post-comment alert applies when someone comments directly on your post, also called a parent comment. It does not notify you when someone replies to another person’s comment in that discussion. If a nested reply is what you are waiting for, the absence of an alert may reflect this coverage limit rather than a broken setting. Reddit Help: comment replies on a post
To receive alerts for direct comments, enable the relevant post or comment activity type in your personal notification settings. For email, separately check that the corresponding activity category is enabled.

Set up Reddit activity emails
Email preferences determine which Reddit activity reaches your inbox. Reddit lists activity categories that can include mentions, follows, upvotes, replies to comments, and comments on posts. Open your account’s email preferences and enable the categories you want; available settings determine what gets delivered. Reddit Help: email notifications
Set moderator notifications for a subreddit
- Open the community you moderate.
- Open Mod Tools, then Mod Notifications.
- Turn on New Posts, Posts with comments, or both, depending on what you need to monitor.
Moderator alerts are subject to rate limits, so you may not receive every notification that otherwise appears to qualify. Reddit’s help page also lists exclusions, including posts older than seven days. Reddit Help: Community notifications

Find posts and comments with Reddit search
Search can help you locate existing content about a topic, a user, or a particular community. You can scope a query with filters such as subreddit:, author:, title:, and selftext:. For example, subreddit:cats narrows to a community, while title:cats looks for the term in titles. Reddit also documents searching comments within an individual post. Reddit Help: Searching Reddit
Searching and getting alerted are different jobs: the documented search features help find matching content, but do not establish that a saved or ordinary search will send recurring keyword alerts. Use personal or moderator notifications when their coverage fits; use search to check for existing matches.

Troubleshoot missing Reddit alerts
- You expected a notification for a reply to another comment: Reddit says its post-comment alert covers direct comments on your post, not replies to someone else’s comment.
- You expected an email: Check email preferences separately from in-app or site notification settings, and confirm the relevant email category is enabled.
- You cannot find the same settings label in the app: Follow the profile menu to Settings and account settings, then look for Manage notifications. Labels and intermediate steps can differ between app versions and platforms.
- You moderate a community and missed an alert: Moderator notifications have rate limits and exclusions, including posts older than seven days; they are not a guarantee that every qualifying event will produce an alert.
- You expect a keyword search to notify you later: Reddit’s documented search help explains finding content, not a general recurring keyword-alert feature. Run a search to check current matches instead.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a Reddit alert service. If you need to capture a Reddit page for a workflow, one GET request can return a screenshot:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.reddit.com -o shot.webpSee the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. It removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Learn about ScreenshotNeo.
