To stream from OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud, use the server address and stream credentials shown for your active Wowza stream, enter them in OBS’s custom streaming destination, then test the complete connection before broadcasting. The general OBS workflow is documented; current Wowza dashboard labels, account steps, and ingest requirements are not verified here, so use the values and limits displayed in your own Wowza account rather than copying an old example.
Before you configure OBS
You need an active Wowza live-stream configuration and its current encoder destination details. In Wowza, create or open the stream configuration and find the destination address and credentials it provides for an encoder. Dashboard navigation and field labels can vary, and current Wowza-specific steps are not established here; do not reuse a URL or key from an old tutorial or another account.
- Confirm the stream configuration is active and intended to receive an encoder feed.
- Record the destination address and the associated stream name, key, or other credentials exactly as shown.
- Check the protocol, host, port, authentication requirements, and supported input limits in your current Wowza configuration.
- Keep credentials private. Treat a stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to that destination.
Historical evidence documents an RTMP workflow between OBS Studio and Wowza Streaming Cloud, but it does not confirm that historical URLs or dashboard instructions remain current. An OBS community post from 2019 links a Wowza guide for sending RTMP from OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud: OBS forum discussion.
Set up the custom destination in OBS
- Open OBS and select Settings, then Stream.
- Set Service to Custom. OBS documents this custom-destination interface in its SRT protocol guide; that guide supports the interface route, not Wowza-specific RTMP instructions.
- Copy the destination address provided for your active Wowza configuration into OBS’s server or URL field. Match the protocol and address exactly; do not assume an example address or protocol from another setup is valid.
- Enter the corresponding stream name or key in the stream-key field if OBS presents one. If Wowza specifies separate authentication fields or a different credential arrangement, follow those current instructions rather than forcing the values into an assumed format.
- Apply the settings. Before starting, verify the selected OBS destination and the Wowza configuration are the ones you intend to use.
OBS’s custom-service setting is not itself a guarantee of compatibility: the protocol, destination format, and credentials must match what the receiving Wowza configuration currently accepts.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose output settings your connection and system can sustain
There is no universal bitrate or resolution established for every Wowza configuration. Use the limits provided for your specific destination, and choose settings your upload connection and computer can sustain. OBS notes that bitrate depends on upload speed and the receiving service’s limits; processing load varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.
- Bitrate: Keep the video bitrate within both the available upload capacity and the receiving configuration’s stated limit. Leave room for other network traffic rather than setting OBS at the full nominal upload rate.
- Resolution and frame rate: Start at a level your encoder and computer handle reliably. If frames are missed or the picture stutters, lower resolution or frame rate and test again.
- Encoder: Choose an available encoder your computer can run consistently. A compatible computer does not necessarily have enough capacity for every resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene combination.
- Protocol and encryption: Use the protocol specified by the active Wowza destination. Do not assume an RTMPS address or TLS configuration will work simply because OBS offers a custom destination.
OBS’s system requirements page cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS.”

Test the full path before broadcasting
- Use a private, unlisted, or otherwise controlled test where your workflow allows it.
- Start streaming in OBS and check whether the configured Wowza destination receives the feed. Confirm video and audio, not just that OBS reports a connection.
- Watch the test long enough to catch unstable connectivity, encoding overload, or a rejected destination.
- Stop the test, correct any errors, and repeat before switching to a public broadcast.
The OBS Overview Guide recommends testing before a first live stream: “It’s strongly recommended that you test everything as best as you can before starting your first live stream.” See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
Troubleshoot connection and quality problems
OBS says “Failed to connect to server”
- Recheck that the Wowza stream is configured and active, then copy the destination address and credentials again from that exact configuration.
- Check the protocol, host, port, stream name or key, and any required authentication against the current Wowza details. A mismatch in any one can prevent connection.
- Verify OBS is set to the intended custom destination and that local firewall or network policy permits the protocol and port specified by Wowza.
- If the destination uses RTMPS, confirm the server’s TLS setup is compatible with the client. A 2025 forum thread describes one user’s RTMPS failure attributed in a reply to that server’s TLS/key-exchange configuration; it is a single case, not evidence of a general OBS–Wowza incompatibility. See the OBS forum discussion.
A 2019 forum exchange also includes advice to verify that the cloud instance was activated. Treat this as a useful check, not a guaranteed diagnosis for every failed connection.

The stream connects but stutters or overloads the computer
- Reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate to fit the receiving service’s stated limits and your measured connection and encoder capacity.
- Reduce scene complexity or try a different available encoder if the computer is struggling.
- Run another controlled test after each meaningful change so you can identify which setting resolved the issue.
OBS connects, but Wowza does not receive the expected feed
- Confirm that the destination values belong to the active stream configuration and that the feed is being sent to the intended host and stream.
- Check Wowza’s current protocol, credential, and input requirements rather than relying on a generic OBS preset or a historical guide.
- If those values appear correct, consult current Wowza support or account documentation; the precise current Wowza dashboard flow and ingest requirements are not established in the sources linked here.
Or let it run in the cloud
The OBS-to-Wowza method above is for sending a live encoder feed to a Wowza destination. If your separate goal is to keep uploaded, prerecorded video looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a different service: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
- Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud.
- One flat price per slot covers the quality of the uploaded video, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required; it is one free day per account.
Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For the full service details, visit StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
