To disable or re-enable Bluetooth with PowerShell in Windows 11, first identify the correct device, then use either the NetAdapter cmdlets with its exact adapter name or the PnP cmdlets with its exact instance ID. Don’t guess the identifier or use a wildcard for a state-changing command.
Find the Bluetooth device Windows exposes
Open PowerShell as an administrator, then check both listings below. Depending on the computer and driver, the Bluetooth radio may appear as a network adapter, a Plug and Play (PnP) device, or both. Microsoft’s command references document these interfaces, but do not establish which one a particular Windows 11 computer will expose.
Check network adapters
Get-NetAdapter -Name * -IncludeHidden |
Format-Table -AutoSize Name, InterfaceDescription, Status, MacAddressGet-NetAdapter lists basic adapter properties. Visible adapters are returned by default; -IncludeHidden includes hidden adapters. Find the Bluetooth-related entry and record its exact Name. Check its interface description and status to confirm you have the intended radio.
Check present PnP devices
Get-PnpDevice -PresentOnly |
Where-Object { $_.FriendlyName -match 'Bluetooth' } |
Format-Table -AutoSize Status, Class, FriendlyName, InstanceIdGet-PnpDevice can list present devices and includes each device’s InstanceId. Confirm the friendly name and class before using an ID; don’t select an entry based only on a partial name match.

Choose the command family that matches the listing

These are separate command interfaces, not interchangeable identifiers. Use the one corresponding to the entry you verified.
Disable or re-enable it as a network adapter
Replace the quoted text with the exact Name from Get-NetAdapter:

Disable-NetAdapter -Name "<exact adapter name>"
Enable-NetAdapter -Name "<exact adapter name>"Disable-NetAdapter prompts for confirmation by default. Read the prompt and confirm the target is the Bluetooth adapter. Disabling an adapter interrupts that adapter’s network connectivity. Do not disable the network adapter you depend on to manage a remote computer.
Enable-NetAdapter enables the specified adapter; Microsoft’s example notes that enabling restarts it.

Verify the reported status
Get-NetAdapter -Name "<exact adapter name>" |
Format-List Name, InterfaceDescription, StatusCheck the same adapter name you targeted. The reported status text can vary by device and driver.
Disable or re-enable it as a PnP device
Run PowerShell with an Administrator account, then substitute the exact InstanceId shown by Get-PnpDevice:

Disable-PnpDevice -InstanceId '<exact instance ID>'
Enable-PnpDevice -InstanceId '<exact instance ID>'Disable-PnpDevice and Enable-PnpDevice control PnP device state and require an Administrator account. Use only an instance ID whose friendly name and class you have checked.
Verify the device
Get-PnpDevice -InstanceId '<exact instance ID>' |
Format-List Status, Class, FriendlyName, InstanceIdThis queries the same device again so you can inspect its reported status.

Avoid changing the wrong Bluetooth setting
- These commands change the adapter or PnP device state. They are not commands for disconnecting one paired Bluetooth device or removing a pairing.
- Do not use a broad target such as
Disable-NetAdapter -Name "*". Microsoft’s example shows that a wildcard can disable all network adapters, potentially cutting off remote connectivity. - If a device is absent or a command returns an error, recheck the exact listing and identifier. The command references do not establish one universal fix; consult the device driver or computer vendor’s instructions rather than trying a guessed ID.
The cited Microsoft Learn references document the cmdlets and their behavior, including in Windows Server 2022/2025 views of these PowerShell modules. They do not certify behavior for every Windows 11 build or vendor Bluetooth driver.
