A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11“Size” can mean the list text, the space between rows, the list’s indentation, or its bullet or number. Change the CSS property that controls the part you want to reduce: use font-size for text, line-height and spacing for row height, the parent list’s padding for indentation, and list-style properties for the marker.
Make the list-item text smaller
Set font-size on the li elements. Relative units such as rem or em fit more naturally into a site’s typography than a fixed pixel size.
li {
font-size: 0.875rem;
}
To target just one list, use a class on its parent rather than changing every list item on the site:
<ul class="compact-list">
<li>First item</li>
<li>Second item</li>
</ul>
.compact-list li {
font-size: 0.875rem;
}
You can also set the font size on the parent ul or ol; list items inherit it unless another rule overrides it.

Reduce the height or spacing of list rows
If the letters are already the right size but the rows look too tall or far apart, adjust line height and margins instead. line-height controls the line box, including when an item wraps onto multiple lines; margins control space outside the item. Check padding as well.
li {
line-height: 1.2;
margin-block: 0.25rem;
padding: 0;
}
Spacing may come from an element inside the list item, such as a paragraph or link, rather than from the li itself. Inspect those child elements if changing the list-item styles does not produce the expected result.

Reduce the list’s indentation
Indentation is usually controlled by the parent ul or ol, not by the li. Browsers commonly give lists a start and end margin and about 40px of start padding by default. Override the parent list’s spacing to bring it closer to surrounding content:
ul,
ol {
margin: 0;
padding-inline-start: 1rem;
}
padding-inline-start follows the text direction, unlike a hard-coded left-padding rule, so it also works for right-to-left layouts.

Change the bullet or number
The marker is separate from the text and row spacing. Use list-style-type to select a marker style, or list-style-position to control whether it sits inside or outside the list item’s content area. The list-style shorthand covers those properties and list-style-image.
Use list-style: none only if you want to remove bullets or numbers—not as a way to reduce the item’s spacing or text size. Keep list items inside a semantic ul, ol, or menu.

When a width or height change seems ineffective
An li normally displays as a list item. Its visible dimensions depend on more than an explicit width or height: text may wrap, and font metrics, line height, padding, borders, margins, and child elements all affect what you see. Use your browser’s developer tools to inspect computed styles, then change the property that matches the unwanted dimension.
