To research Broadcom (Nasdaq: AVGO), start with its latest quarterly filing and earnings release, then use its annual report to examine the two business segments, customer concentration, cash generation, debt and disclosed risks. As of October 7, 2026, the latest reported quarter was Q3 FY2026, ended August 2, 2026. Treat the company’s Q4 outlook as guidance—not a result—and test its AI and VMware growth narratives against reported financials. This is a research framework, not a buy or sell recommendation.
1. Start with the latest quarter, and separate results from guidance
Confirm the reporting period
Broadcom announced Q3 FY2026 results on September 2, 2026. The quarter ended August 2, 2026. Before comparing figures with another period, confirm the fiscal quarter and period end in the filing and release; calendar-year labels can obscure differences in reporting dates.
Read reported results separately from the outlook
Broadcom reported Q3 revenue of $29.591 billion, up 86% year over year. Semiconductor solutions contributed $20.839 billion, or 70% of revenue, up 127%; infrastructure software contributed $8.752 billion, or 30%, up 29%.
The company also reported Q3 cash from operations of $14.197 billion, capital expenditures of about $0.5 billion and free cash flow of $13.665 billion. GAAP diluted EPS was $2.68; non-GAAP diluted EPS was $3.32. Keep the two EPS measures distinct when making comparisons: non-GAAP figures exclude items defined by the company, so review the release’s reconciliation rather than treating the measures as interchangeable.

Broadcom reported Q3 AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion, up 221% year over year and 54% quarter over quarter. CEO Hock Tan described demand for custom AI accelerators and networking as strong. That is management’s explanation of the quarter, not evidence by itself that the same growth rate will continue.
For Q4 FY2026, management estimated revenue of approximately $34.8 billion and non-GAAP operating income of approximately 66% of projected revenue. These are forward-looking estimates based on conditions when the September 2 release was issued; actual results may differ materially. The release said projected non-GAAP measures could not be readily reconciled to GAAP without unreasonable effort, so do not present the operating-income outlook as a GAAP result.
2. Understand what Broadcom sells and how the mix is changing
Semiconductor solutions
This segment includes semiconductor products and intellectual-property licensing across AI and enterprise data centers, networking, wireless, broadband, storage, telecom and other markets. The company’s described AI portfolio includes custom accelerators (XPUs), Ethernet switching and routing silicon, network interface controllers, PHY devices, optical components and systems based on its XPUs.
Infrastructure software
The software segment serves private, hybrid and edge environments. It includes VMware-related private-cloud products, mainframe, cybersecurity and enterprise software, as well as Fibre Channel storage networking. Broadcom attributed fiscal 2025 software growth mainly to demand for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), including license revenue on contracts customers could not terminate, and a transition to subscription licensing.

Segment revenue tells you where sales are recorded, but it is not enough to judge business quality. In the 10-K and latest 10-Q, compare each segment’s operating income and margin with revenue growth. The annual filing says semiconductor gross margin has typically been lower than infrastructure software gross margin; product mix can therefore affect Broadcom’s consolidated gross margin.
Compare annual mix with the latest quarter
| Period | Semiconductor solutions | Infrastructure software | Total revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiscal 2024 | $30.096 billion (58%) | $21.478 billion (42%) | $51.574 billion |
| Fiscal 2025 | $36.858 billion (58%) | $27.029 billion (42%) | $63.887 billion |
| Q3 FY2026, ended August 2, 2026 | $20.839 billion (70%; up 127% year over year) | $8.752 billion (30%; up 29% year over year) | $29.591 billion (up 86% year over year) |
Fiscal 2025 figures are full-year results; Q3 FY2026 is one quarter, so do not compare its dollar totals directly with annual totals as if they covered equal periods. Broadcom attributed fiscal 2025 semiconductor revenue growth mainly to networking demand, especially custom AI accelerators and AI networking. Treat those explanations as management’s account, then check whether later segment results support the narrative.

3. Investigate customer concentration and demand timing
Broadcom’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K reported that one customer in semiconductor solutions, a distributor, accounted for 32% of fiscal 2025 revenue. Separately, the top five end customers, across all channels, represented approximately 40% of revenue in both fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2024. The distributor and end-customer disclosures describe different measures; do not add them together.
The filing warns that losing a top-five end customer—or a material reduction in its demand—could materially harm the business, results and financial condition. In the latest quarterly filing, check whether concentration changed and look for disclosures about customer demand timing, product launches and orders. A large order or strong quarter may reflect demand timing as well as a durable increase in end-market demand.
4. Check cash generation, debt and earnings quality
Follow cash through the statements
Use the latest filing to compare cash from operations with net income and free cash flow across multiple periods. Review capital expenditures and working-capital movements to understand what drove the cash result. The Q3 figures above are a single-quarter snapshot, not proof of a recurring run rate.

Also inspect stock-based compensation, acquisition-related amortization and the reconciliation between GAAP and non-GAAP measures. These items can affect how reported earnings compare with cash generation and with the adjusted measures management emphasizes.
Update the debt picture from the newest filing
Broadcom’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K reported $67.120 billion of debt principal outstanding as of November 2, 2025, down from $69.847 billion a year earlier. That is a dated balance, not a current debt figure for October 2026. Use the latest 10-Q to update debt and cash, then examine maturities, interest costs and the company’s capacity to service its obligations. The annual filing lists senior notes and term loans; significant debt service needs are among the company’s disclosed risks.
5. Test the AI and VMware narratives against evidence
AI: separate sales momentum from expectations
The Q3 AI semiconductor revenue figure is a company-reported sales measure for that quarter. Compare it with subsequent reported segment performance, customer concentration, demand timing and the company’s discussion of product mix and supply. Do not assume that a high year-over-year growth rate or management’s outlook will persist indefinitely.

VMware and private cloud: distinguish a survey from financial results
Broadcom’s Private Cloud Outlook 2026 was conducted with Radius Tech. As described by Broadcom, the survey ran in February–March 2026 and included 1,800 senior IT decision-makers at enterprises with at least 1,000 employees across eight countries in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Broadcom reported that 56% of surveyed enterprises were running or planning production AI inference on private cloud; 97% of respondents believed some public-cloud spending was wasted; 83% were considering workload repatriation; and 50% had already repatriated some workloads.
These are findings from a company-associated survey, not audited financial evidence, a general-population estimate or a measurement of VMware sales. Use them as context about surveyed enterprise IT views. For evidence of Broadcom’s software performance, prioritize reported infrastructure software revenue and operating income, VCF disclosures, licensing and subscription trends, and customer-related discussion in filings.

Broadcom’s annual filing identifies risks across both segments. The list is the company’s disclosure, not a ranking of likelihood or a prediction that any one event will occur.
- Semiconductor demand: cyclicality, competition, price erosion, product mix, customer demand changes and product-launch timing.
- Manufacturing and supply: reliance on contract manufacturers and a limited supplier base, as well as global conditions and trade restrictions.
- Customer concentration: dependence on major customers and the possibility that demand shifts or timing changes affect results.
- Software adoption: customer acceptance, compatibility and licensing issues.
- Cybersecurity: risks associated with protecting products, systems and data.
- Acquisitions and VMware: integration challenges and related tax issues.
- Other obligations: legal matters, regulation and the need to service significant indebtedness.
Connect each risk to the metric it could affect: for example, customer losses to revenue, supply constraints to shipment timing, competition to pricing and margins, and debt service to financial flexibility. Then check whether the latest filing describes a changed exposure or consequence.

7. Use a practical reading order before considering valuation
- Open the latest earnings release and Form 10-Q. Confirm the fiscal period end, reported results, segment performance, cash flow, debt and any changed risk disclosures. Mark guidance separately from actual results.
- Read the Form 10-K business and segment sections. Use them to understand products, revenue sources, segment operating income and margin, annual customer concentration and stated risks.
- Reconcile earnings and cash. Review GAAP results, non-GAAP reconciliations, stock-based compensation, acquisition-related amortization, capital expenditure and cash conversion.
- Challenge the growth explanations. Compare AI and VCF narratives with reported segment results, customer demand and supply-chain disclosures. Do not use a vendor-associated survey as a proxy for revenue.
- Only then assess valuation. Use a current share price and dated estimates or clearly stated scenarios. A valuation conclusion depends on those inputs; historical revenue growth or company guidance alone does not establish whether AVGO shares are attractive at a particular price.
