Microsoft Teams does not currently provide a single keyboard shortcut that immediately stops your outgoing screen share. The documented shortcut first moves focus to the sharing toolbar; you must then activate Stop sharing.
Use Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar on Windows or Command+Shift+Spacebar on Mac. The same shortcuts work in the Teams desktop app and Teams for the web.

Stop sharing in a Teams chat
Chat screen sharing uses a call window rather than the controls of a standard scheduled meeting.
- Open the meeting controls in the chat call.
- Select Stop sharing.
- If you also want to end the call, select Leave in the meeting call window.
Stopping the presentation and leaving the call are separate actions. In a group chat, the screen-share session may remain available if other participants are still in the call. If the sharer leaves while another participant remains, that participant may be able to rejoin from the group chat using Join. The session ends when the last participant leaves.
Chat screen sharing starts as a muted call. Unmuting or enabling the camera turns it into an instant meeting, but neither action is required simply to stop sharing.
Shortcuts that do not stop your screen share
| Shortcut | Documented action | Why it is not the stop command |
|---|---|---|
Ctrl+Shift+E or Command+Shift+E |
Toggle share content tray | Opens or closes the sharing tray |
Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar or Command+Shift+Spacebar |
Go to sharing toolbar | Moves focus; you still select Stop sharing |
Ctrl+Shift+D or Command+Shift+D |
Decline screen share | Declines an incoming request; it does not end your outgoing share |
Ctrl+Shift+H or Command+Shift+H |
End or leave the call, depending on the Teams edition | Ends the call rather than specifically stopping presentation sharing |
Teams’ current slash commands also do not include a documented /stopsharing command. For example, /stoplivetranscription stops transcription, not screen sharing.
What to do when Stop sharing is missing
The presenter toolbar is hidden
Move the pointer to the very top of the shared screen. The toolbar drops down there. If it disappears again, repeat the movement or use the keyboard shortcut to focus it.

The shortcut seems to do nothing
The shortcut is a navigation command, not an instant stop command. Press it once, then use Tab or Shift+Tab until Teams reaches Stop sharing or Stop presenting button. Press Enter to activate it.
You are no longer a presenter
If your meeting role changes from presenter to attendee while you are sharing, Teams stops the screen share automatically. Meeting organizers can also restrict who is allowed to present, so some controls may be unavailable.
The share failed before it started
If Teams cannot start screen sharing, other participants may see an error with options to restart the app or rejoin the meeting. In that situation, there is no active presentation for the stop command to end.
