The Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) is worth considering if you specifically want a premium flip phone: it combines a compact clamshell design with a 4-inch cover screen, a 7-inch inner display, and a 5,000mAh battery. Its main drawback is price. At its US launch MSRP of $1,499.99, it cost $200 more than the previous generation, despite reviewers describing much of the design as familiar. Whether it makes sense now depends heavily on its current price and how much you value the flip format.

Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) pros and cons at a glance

Pros Cons
Compact clamshell body opens to a 7-inch inner display. Its $1,499.99 US launch MSRP was $200 above the previous model’s launch price.
The 4-inch cover display allows more interaction without opening the phone. Reviewers describe the chassis as largely unchanged from the prior generation.
A 5,000mAh battery; Tom’s Guide recorded 16 hours 20 minutes in its own battery drain test. No dedicated telephoto camera, so long-distance zoom is a trade-off.
Updated 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Peak charging depends on the adapter and conditions; reviewers reported mixed results.
Android Central lists 165Hz refresh rates for both displays and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Long-term hinge and screen failure rates are not established by the sources cited here.

What are the Motorola Razr Ultra’s main advantages?

A flip phone that opens into a large screen

The defining benefit is the form factor. Folded, the Razr Ultra is easier to pocket than a conventional large-screen phone; opened, it provides a 7-inch display. Its 4-inch external display is large enough for more than glanceable notifications, letting you handle some interactions without unfolding the device. The practical value of that screen depends on the tasks you want to do while the phone is closed.

Bright, fast displays and flagship-class processing

Android Central lists 165Hz refresh rates for both the inner and outer displays and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Those specifications make the phone appealing if you want a high-end screen and processor in a folding design. They do not, by themselves, establish how long the phone will receive software updates or how every app behaves on the cover screen.

Large battery capacity, with a useful test result to compare

The battery capacity is 5,000mAh, according to device specifications reported by Tom’s Guide and Android Authority. Tom’s Guide measured 16 hours and 20 minutes in its battery drain test. That is a result from Tom’s Guide’s particular test protocol, not a prediction of how long every owner will get between charges; usage, settings, network conditions, and test methods affect runtime.

  • Universal unlocked: Compatible with all major U.S. carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and other prepaid carriers.

An updated main camera and flexible framing

Reviewers identify the upgraded main camera as a meaningful improvement. The rear system pairs a 50MP wide camera with a 50MP ultrawide, giving you a choice between a standard view and a wider composition. The dual-camera setup can suit everyday photography and group or landscape shots, while the flip design also offers a convenient way to frame photos using the main cameras.

What are the Motorola Razr Ultra’s drawbacks?

The launch price was high for a familiar design

Motorola announced a US MSRP of $1,499.99. Engadget reported that this was a $200 increase over the previous model’s launch price, while Android Central and Engadget questioned the value. Both publications describe the design as substantially familiar, so the higher launch price is harder to justify if you already own the prior generation or mainly want a better deal rather than a specific flip-phone experience. The MSRP is a launch figure, not a statement of today’s price; check current listings before buying.

No dedicated telephoto camera

The Razr Ultra’s two rear cameras are wide and ultrawide, not a wide-plus-telephoto combination. Android Authority observed that crop-based zoom degrades at higher magnification. If distant subjects are a regular photography priority, a phone with a dedicated telephoto camera may be a better fit than relying on digital zoom here.

Charging speed is not guaranteed by the charger’s headline rating

Charging performance depends on using a compatible adapter and on operating conditions. Engadget says a special power adapter is needed to reach peak speed. Android Authority reported that its test setup did not approach 30W even with a Motorola 68W charger. That observation is specific to that reviewer’s setup; it is not a universal measurement, but it is a reason not to assume that a high-wattage adapter guarantees a particular charging rate.

Case fit needs attention around the rear vent

Motorola Support warns that the rear air vent must not be obstructed by a case; blocking it can cause noise during calls or media playback. Before buying a case, check that its cutouts leave the vent clear. No specific case model is established here as a verified fit.

Long-term foldable reliability is uncertain

Motorola’s launch announcement describes a titanium-reinforced hinge, but a manufacturer description is not a long-term failure-rate study. The available sources do not establish how often the screen or hinge fails in real-world use over several years. Buyers should treat the hinge claim as a design detail, not a guarantee of lifespan.

Is the Razr Ultra (2026) worth buying?

It is most compelling for someone who wants a premium clamshell phone, will use the cover display, and values fitting a large-screen device into a compact folded shape. Its camera upgrade, battery capacity, and display specifications add to that appeal. It is less compelling if you prioritize a low price, a dedicated telephoto lens, or established long-term reliability data over the flip design.

Because launch MSRP and current street price are different questions, compare today’s price with discounts on the 2025 model and with conventional phones or other foldables you are considering. A substantial discount can change the value calculation; at or near its launch price, the familiar design and lack of telephoto make the premium harder to recommend to buyers who do not specifically want a flip phone.
