To check a Microsoft 365 subscription code, confirm its plan and intended country or region with the seller, then try it through Microsoft’s official redemption flow while signed in to the account that should own the subscription. A successful redemption appears under that account’s Services & subscriptions. There is no reliable third-party check that can conclusively confirm an unused code without redeeming it.
Check the code’s details before you redeem it
Compare the code with the seller’s packaging or listing before entering it. Confirm the Microsoft 365 plan, subscription term, whether it is meant for a new subscription or renewal, and the country or region where it was purchased. Microsoft says Office product keys must be redeemed in the country or region where they were purchased: Microsoft’s guidance on region errors.
Do not assume a low price or a seller’s “global” label makes a code compatible. For two offers, compare their intended region with where you will redeem, along with the plan, term, renewal eligibility, and seller documentation. If the listing does not identify these details clearly, ask the seller before buying or redeeming.
Redeem through Microsoft’s official setup flow
- Go to microsoft365.com/setup and sign in with the Microsoft account that should own the subscription. If you are renewing, use the account associated with the existing subscription.
- Enter the 25-character product key and follow the on-screen instructions. Microsoft’s renewal instructions describe this process for a key in a physical box or card.
- If prompted to choose a country or region, Microsoft recommends selecting the country or region where you live or bank. That selection does not change where the code was purchased or make a code from an incompatible market compatible.
- After a successful redemption, open the account’s Services & subscriptions page and check that the subscription is listed under the account you used.
What common rejection messages mean
“This product key isn’t meant for your region”
Microsoft’s region-error guidance says the key was purchased in a different country or region from the one where you are trying to redeem it. Its stated rule is to redeem the key where purchased; changing the country or region selected during setup does not override that restriction. The cited Microsoft article lists Office 2024, Office 2021, Office 2019, and Office 2016. For a Microsoft 365 subscription code, follow the error shown for your specific code and account rather than assuming every Office-key rule or remedy applies identically. If the error persists, contact Microsoft Support.

“This product key has already been used”
Microsoft says this means the key has already been redeemed and added to a Microsoft account; it does not by itself mean the license is invalid. Stop entering the key and sign in to the account where it was redeemed to install, activate, or manage the product. If you do not know which account was used, check the accounts you may have used and their Services & subscriptions pages. Microsoft explains this message in its product-key support article.
Invalid key, token, or mistyped characters
Check the characters against the original card, box, or seller-provided information, taking care not to confuse similar-looking characters. Microsoft’s product-key troubleshooting guidance covers invalid-key and token errors. If the code still fails after you have checked it, use Microsoft’s official support rather than relying on an unofficial validator.

Billing-country or renewal mismatch
A code’s country or region may differ from the one used to set up the existing subscription, and Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance describes rejection in such cases. Check the code’s purchase region and the subscription’s setup region, then contact Microsoft Support if the mismatch remains. The suitable next step can depend on the account and code; do not assume that changing account settings will make the code work.

The definitive practical check is whether Microsoft accepts the code in its redemption flow and the resulting subscription appears on the intended account. Before redemption, a third-party site cannot conclusively establish both that a code is unused and that Microsoft will accept it for your region and account. Keep the receipt and the listing or packaging details in case you need to resolve a seller or support issue.
