To view a website screenshot, open the saved PNG, JPEG, or WebP file in your computer’s image viewer, or drag it into Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. If you need to find the actual image loaded by a webpage, use Chrome DevTools’ Sources panel. If you need to make a new screenshot, Chrome and Firefox include built-in capture commands.
Choose the method that matches your goal
| What you want to do | Best method | What you get | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read an existing screenshot | Open the image file or drag it into a browser | An image in a viewer or browser tab | Detail is limited by the saved file |
| Find an image resource used by a page | Chrome DevTools Sources | A preview of the loaded image file | Dynamically generated images may not appear as a simple file |
| Capture what is visible now | Chrome DevTools Capture screenshot | A viewport image | Content below the viewport is not included automatically |
| Capture a full page or one element | Firefox Developer Tools | A downloaded screenshot of the page or selected element | Menu wording and availability vary by Firefox version |
Open a screenshot file on your computer
- Find the downloaded PNG, JPEG, WebP, or other image file. Check your browser’s Downloads folder if you do not know where it was saved.
- Double-click the file. Your operating system should open it in its configured image viewer.
- If the wrong application opens, right-click the file, choose Open with, and select an image viewer or browser.
- Use the viewer’s zoom controls to inspect small text. Keep the original file; enlarging a low-resolution copy cannot recreate detail that was never captured.
View the screenshot in a browser
A browser is a convenient cross-platform image viewer. Open Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari, then drag the screenshot from your file manager onto the browser window. You can also use the browser’s Open File command and select the image.
The browser renders the image in its own tab. This is useful when the operating-system viewer is unavailable or when you want a familiar zoom interface. The browser is only displaying the saved file; it is not reloading the original webpage.
Find the image that a webpage loaded in Chrome
Sometimes you are not trying to open a screenshot saved on disk. You want to inspect the image resource behind a page, such as a product photo or a static preview. Chrome DevTools can show many of those files.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open Developer Tools with Ctrl+Shift+I or F12 on Windows and Linux. On macOS, use Command+Option+I. These shortcuts are documented by MDN.
- Select the Sources panel.
- In the Page tree, browse the loaded resources and locate the image file.
- Click the file. Chrome’s Sources documentation states that images are shown with a preview in the editor.
If the image is created dynamically, drawn on a canvas, inserted after a script runs, or otherwise not exposed as a normal file, it may not appear as a simple resource in the Page tree. In that case, capture the rendered page instead.
Capture the visible page in Chrome
Chrome DevTools can save what is currently visible in the browser viewport.
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Open Developer Tools.
- Open the command menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows and Linux, or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Search for Capture screenshot.
- Run the command. Chrome saves an image of the current viewport.
- Open the downloaded file with the image-viewing steps above.
A viewport capture stops at the visible area. For a page longer than the window, search the same command menu for a full-size or full-page capture command. The exact command name can change between Chrome versions, so search for “Capture screenshot” rather than relying on a fixed menu location.
Capture a full page or one element in Firefox
Firefox Developer Tools can capture either the entire page or a single element, which is useful when you need one long image or a focused component.

- Open the page in Firefox.
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Use the screenshot command and choose the entire page or a single element.
- Save the result.
- Firefox saves the screenshot in the browser’s Downloads directory. Open that file in Firefox, another browser, or an image viewer.
Firefox’s Developer Tools documentation explicitly supports screenshots of an entire page and of a single element. If a menu label differs in your version, use the Developer Tools search or consult the current official Firefox documentation for the equivalent command.
How to inspect a screenshot clearly
Zoom without losing the original
Use the viewer’s zoom control to read small labels, but do not overwrite the source file. A larger display does not restore pixels that were missing from the capture.
Check whether you are viewing the whole page
Look at the image dimensions and scroll position. A Chrome viewport screenshot represents only what was visible when the command ran. Use a full-page command in Chrome or Firefox when content below the fold matters.
Separate the screenshot from the source image
A screenshot is a rendered view. The image resource shown in Chrome’s Sources panel is the file the page loaded, which may have different dimensions or cropping from the page as displayed. If you need the page exactly as rendered, use a rendered-page capture rather than downloading an individual resource.

Troubleshooting
Double-click opens the wrong application
Right-click the file, choose Open with, and select a browser or image viewer. You can then set that application as the default if your operating system offers the option.
The text is unreadable
Zoom in first. If the letters remain blurred, request the original image or obtain a higher-resolution capture. Upscaling cannot recreate detail that was not recorded.
The page blocks the right-click menu
A site’s context-menu behavior does not prevent you from using browser Developer Tools. Use Chrome’s Sources panel to inspect available image resources, or use the rendered-page capture workflow in Chrome or Firefox.
The image is missing from Chrome Sources
The page may build it dynamically or draw it in a canvas instead of loading a conventional image file. Capture the rendered page, or use the browser’s screenshot command after the page has finished rendering.

The Chrome command is not listed
Open the command menu with the platform shortcut and search for Capture screenshot. Browser interfaces change, and the full-page command may have a different label in your Chrome version.
The Firefox screenshot option is hard to find
Open Firefox Developer Tools and use its screenshot command. The available wording can vary by version; the official Firefox documentation describes both full-page and single-element capture.
The screenshot is saved somewhere unexpected
Check the browser’s Downloads directory. Firefox documents that its captured screenshots are saved there. Chrome normally reports the downloaded file through its download interface, where you can reveal its location.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The same request in Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and every response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
