A Tracfone Smartphone Only plan is prepaid smartphone service with set allowances for talk, text, mobile data, and a service period. The exact allowances vary by offer. One retailer’s $25 listing, for example, specifies 500 minutes, 1,000 texts, 500 MB of data, and 60 days of service; those figures describe that particular listing, not a guaranteed current Tracfone offer.
What the plan includes
Tracfone’s terms treat smartphone airtime as separate voice, text, and data allowances: calls use minutes, texts use messages, and data is charged according to use. The selected plan determines the amounts and the period during which service is available. See Tracfone’s Terms and Conditions of Service for the service rules.
As one specific example, Staples Advantage / GiftCardMall lists a $25 e-delivered card with 500 minutes, 1,000 texts, 500 MB of data, and 60 service days. The listing says the card can refill an existing line or be redeemed to activate new service, and describes compatibility with 4G LTE and 5G smartphones. Its publication date is not stated, and a retailer listing does not establish the carrier’s complete or current lineup. Can it activate a phone or refill service?
Tracfone’s terms say service activation requires an activated Tracfone phone or a compatible Keep Your Own Phone SIM Kit, plus purchase and redemption of a plan. The retailer’s example card is listed for either a new activation or an existing-service refill. Confirm that the particular offer supports the way you intend to use it before purchase.

Will it work with an unlocked phone?
Bringing your own phone does not guarantee compatibility. Tracfone says the customer is responsible for ensuring an existing phone is unlocked and compatible. It also cautions that some plans may not work with smartphones or phones activated through Keep Your Own Phone, and that not every feature is available on every phone or carrier network.
4G or 5G service also depends on the device, SIM, location, and network availability. A retailer’s statement that an offer works with 4G LTE and 5G smartphones is not a guarantee that every eligible-looking phone will receive 5G. Check compatibility and plan eligibility for the specific device and line before paying.

How to check the current offer for your line

Service days, expiration, and inactivity
Service days are not a promise that a phone number or account will remain active indefinitely. Tracfone’s terms state that service may be deactivated after the service end date if no airtime is added, even when airtime remains. The terms also reserve the right to deactivate a smartphone after six consecutive months with no voice, text, or data use. Check the current terms for your line and situation before relying on a remaining balance or unused allowance.
