To ride a Waymo robotaxi, book in the Waymo app where service is available, follow the pickup instructions it gives you, unlock the arriving car, buckle up, and tap Start ride. The pickup may be a short walk from your requested pin, and the app’s trip estimate—not a universal flat fare—is the price guide for your specific journey.
Where can you book a Waymo ride?
Waymo rides are available only in supported areas, and a city being listed does not mean every address is covered or every rider can book immediately. Waymo’s current FAQ lists Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Tampa. Some locations may still be in invitation or early-rider phases. In Austin and Atlanta, Waymo directs riders to book through Uber rather than its own app. Check your exact pickup and destination in the relevant app because coverage and eligibility change. How do you request a ride?
- Get the right app and set up an account. Download the Waymo app in a supported market. In Austin and Atlanta, use Uber to request a Waymo ride.
- Add a payment method. Waymo requires a valid payment method before your first ride, even if you plan to use Waymo Cash. Listed options include Apple Pay, Google Pay, major credit cards, and debit cards. Gift cards and buying Waymo Cash in the app may not be available to every rider. Waymo ride FAQ
- Enter your pickup and destination. Review the pickup and drop-off locations the app proposes. These are places the vehicle can navigate to and use safely; they may not match the exact curb or map pin you had in mind.
- Check the fare estimate, then request the ride. The app shows an estimate before you book. Confirm that the route and locations work for you before requesting.

There is no single fare that applies to every city or trip. Waymo says its fare calculation includes a minimum price, distance, and trip duration. Demand, pickup and drop-off availability, booking time, tolls, airport access fees, applicable surcharges, late cancellation or no-show charges, and changes to a trip may also affect what you pay. If scheduled rides are offered
Scheduling is available only when the app offers it for your trip. Waymo’s current help page says rides can be scheduled from five minutes to one hour ahead, with arrival potentially within five minutes of the selected time. The fare is set when you book and changes only if you edit the ride. A standard cancellation fee may apply once the vehicle is on its way. Where will the car pick you up?
The app selects a pickup point the vehicle can reach and stop at. It may choose a nearby location instead of your pin because of traffic, construction, road closures, parked cars, pedestrians, cyclists, or stopping restrictions such as bus stops and red curbs. Be prepared to walk to the pickup point; Waymo says it will notify you if you need to walk more than three minutes.

You can select another available pickup point in the app. The Minimize walking time setting aims to bring the vehicle to your side of the street, but it cannot guarantee no walking. A shorter walk may also mean a longer ride. Review the displayed location and directions rather than waiting at the original pin. Waymo ride FAQ
How do you find and board the Waymo?
- Watch for arrival alerts. The app notifies you when the car is one minute away and again when it arrives.
- Follow the countdown. Waymo says the car usually waits five minutes, but may leave sooner in a busy area. If you miss it, the trip can be canceled and a no-show fee may apply.
- Use the car-finding tools if needed. In the app, use Find my pickup or Find my car for visual, audio, and haptic directions. Waymo also documents a chime feature and, at pickup, a horn option. Contact Support if you still cannot locate the vehicle. Waymo ride FAQ
- Unlock the vehicle with the app. The car arrives locked. Depending on the vehicle, the app may offer automatic unlocking or door opening.

What can you do during the ride and at drop-off?
Use the in-car screen, physical seat and window controls, and available cabin preferences. Waymo says other controls are off-limits. If you need to end the trip early, select Pull over in the app or on the in-car screen; the vehicle will look for a safe place to stop.
At your destination, wait for the vehicle to stop fully, then open the door, exit, and close it behind you. If the drop-off point is unsuitable, Waymo says Pull ahead can move the vehicle to the next eligible spot up to a block ahead at no charge. Waymo ride FAQ

Waymo documents screen-reader compatibility, spoken in-car announcements, pickup wayfinding, and the Minimize walking time option. Riders may bring a service animal. Wheelchair-accessible rides use manually driven vehicles, not autonomous ones, and booking arrangements vary by city: Waymo describes app requests in San Francisco and Los Angeles, contacting Support in Phoenix, and local providers in Las Vegas.
