Pairing the Xbox Nano Controller depends on the device you are using. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles connect through Xbox Wireless; Windows 10 and 11 PCs, Android devices, and iPhones connect through Bluetooth. In every case, turn on the controller and hold its Pair button for about three seconds until the Xbox button flashes, then complete the connection on the host device.
This guide covers the exact menu path for each platform, what the indicator light means, how to move the controller between hosts, and what to check when pairing succeeds but a game still does not respond.
Which connection method does the Xbox Nano Controller use?
The controller uses two different wireless standards. Xbox consoles use Xbox Wireless, while PCs and mobile devices use Bluetooth. Choosing the right method matters because the console pairing process is different from the Bluetooth menus on Windows, Android, and iPhone.
| Host device | Connection method | Where pairing is completed | Officially listed support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox Wireless | The console’s Pair/Sync button and the controller Pair button | Yes |
| Xbox One | Xbox Wireless | The console’s Pair/Sync button and the controller Pair button | Yes |
| Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC | Bluetooth | Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device | Yes |
| Android phone or tablet | Bluetooth | Connected devices or Bluetooth settings | Yes |
| iPhone | Bluetooth | Settings > Bluetooth | Yes |
| Compatible smart TV | Bluetooth | The television’s Bluetooth accessory menu | Listed by Xbox; menu names vary |
Xbox’s official specification lists compatibility with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, Windows, Android, iOS, tablets, and compatible Smart TVs. The controller works only in games and apps that accept controllers, so a successful wireless connection does not guarantee that every title will respond to its buttons.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Windows Central’s October 14, 2026 announcement described the Nano Controller as a pocket-sized model measuring approximately 5 inches long and weighing about 3.5 ounces. Those dimensions explain its portability, but they do not change the pairing procedure. Retail pricing and availability can vary, so check the seller’s current listing before buying rather than relying on an old price.
What you need before starting
Pairing is easiest when the controller and host are ready at the same time. The Nano Controller has an internal rechargeable battery, and Xbox says a USB-C charging cable is required but sold separately. If the controller is new or has been stored for a while, have a compatible USB-C cable available and give it enough charge to stay powered through discovery and testing.
You also need a host with the relevant wireless capability. Xbox consoles use their Xbox Wireless pairing controls. A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, Android device, iPhone, or compatible smart TV must have Bluetooth enabled. On a computer or mobile device, remain on the Bluetooth discovery page while the controller is flashing so the host can find it promptly.

- Turn off Bluetooth on a nearby phone, tablet, or PC that previously used the controller if it keeps reconnecting there.
- Know which game or app you will test, and make sure it explicitly accepts game-controller input.
- If you are fixing an existing connection, be prepared to check for a controller firmware update, which Microsoft recommends when compatibility or connection problems continue.
Prepare the controller before pairing
Do these checks before opening a Bluetooth menu or pressing the console’s sync button:
- Make sure the controller has enough charge to remain on during setup.
- Keep the controller close to the console, computer, phone, or tablet while pairing. Short distance reduces the chance that the host will miss the discovery signal.
- Turn off Bluetooth on a nearby device that was previously using the controller, or remove the controller from that device’s saved Bluetooth list if it keeps reconnecting to the wrong host.
- Confirm that the game or app you intend to use supports game controllers.
- If you are troubleshooting an existing connection, plan to check for a controller firmware update. Microsoft recommends current firmware when connection or compatibility problems persist.
Pair the Xbox Nano Controller with Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One
Console pairing uses Xbox Wireless rather than the Bluetooth settings used on a phone or PC. The console must be turned on before you begin.
- Turn on the Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.
- Press the Pair or Sync button on the console. This puts the console into its controller-discovery state.
- Press the Xbox button on the Nano Controller to turn it on.
- Hold the controller’s Pair button for about three seconds. The Xbox button begins flashing, which indicates that the controller is searching for a host.
- Wait for the controller light to stop flashing and remain lit. That steady light indicates that the wireless link has been established.
- Open a game known to support controllers and test the sticks, buttons, and triggers.
If the light continues flashing, the console has not completed the connection. Move the controller closer, repeat the console Pair/Sync step, and then hold the controller Pair button again for approximately three seconds.
Do not open the console’s Bluetooth settings for this task: the Nano Controller’s console link uses Xbox Wireless. The console’s Pair/Sync action and the controller’s Pair action must overlap so both devices are searching at the same time.

Pair with a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC
On a Windows computer, pairing is performed through Bluetooth. The wording can vary slightly between Windows builds, but the Bluetooth and devices area and the Add device flow are the documented path.
- Press the Xbox button to turn on the controller.
- Hold the Pair button for about three seconds, until the Xbox button flashes.
- On the PC, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
- Select Add device, choose Bluetooth, and wait for nearby devices to populate.
- Select Xbox Nano Controller when it appears in the list.
- Keep the controller near the PC while Windows completes pairing. When the Xbox button remains lit, launch a controller-compatible game and test it.
If the controller does not appear, do not select a wireless display, printer, or other device category. Return to Add device and choose Bluetooth, then repeat the three-second Pair-button hold while the list is visible.
If the Windows menu looks different
Windows 10 and Windows 11 both support this Bluetooth sequence, but menu labels and their exact placement can differ by build. Start in Settings, open the Bluetooth area, choose Add device, and select Bluetooth rather than a wireless display or other device category.
After a successful Windows pairing
If Windows reports that the controller is connected but a game does not react, the wireless link may be fine and the game may simply lack controller support. Check the title’s input options before removing and repeating the pairing. A connected entry in Windows confirms the wireless relationship, not universal support across every game.
Pair with an Android phone or tablet
Android uses the controller’s Bluetooth mode. Android manufacturers arrange their settings differently, so look for either Connected devices or a Bluetooth entry.
- Open Settings and select Connected devices or Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the Xbox button on the controller, then hold the Pair button until the Xbox button flashes.
- Watch the available-devices list and tap Xbox Nano Controller.
- Wait until the controller light remains steadily lit.
- Open a game that supports controllers and verify input.
If the name does not appear, leave the Android Bluetooth screen open while repeating the three-second Pair-button hold. Keep the phone or tablet nearby and ensure the controller has sufficient charge. Android may place a newly discovered controller under a separate available-devices heading, so scroll through the list rather than looking only at previously saved devices.
Pair with an iPhone
On iPhone, the complete pairing flow is in the system Bluetooth settings.

- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Switch Bluetooth on.
- Turn on the Nano Controller and hold its Pair button for about three seconds, until the Xbox button flashes.
- Under Other Devices or the available-devices list, tap Xbox Nano Controller.
- Wait for the Xbox button to stay lit instead of flashing.
- Start a controller-compatible game or app and test the controls.
If the controller is absent from Other Devices, remain on the Bluetooth page, move the controller closer to the iPhone, and repeat the Pair-button step until the flashing light appears. If the iPhone shows a saved but unavailable entry, remove that old entry and begin discovery again.
Pair with a compatible smart TV
Xbox lists Bluetooth support for compatible Smart TVs, but television menus vary by manufacturer and model. Open the TV’s Bluetooth accessory or controller menu, turn on the Nano Controller, and hold Pair for about three seconds until the Xbox button flashes. Select the controller when it appears, then wait for the light to remain on.
“Compatible” matters here: Xbox does not claim that every smart TV supports the controller. If the TV does not list it, check the television’s controller and Bluetooth requirements rather than assuming the controller is defective. The game or TV app must also accept controller input after pairing.
Switch the controller to another host
A controller that is already associated with a nearby host can be captured by that device instead of appearing for a new pairing. Before pairing with a different host:
- Turn off Bluetooth on the previous phone, tablet, or PC, or remove the Nano Controller from that device’s saved Bluetooth devices.
- On the new host, open its Bluetooth or controller-pairing screen.
- Turn on the controller and hold Pair for about three seconds until the Xbox button flashes.
- Select the controller on the new host and wait for the light to remain on.
For a console, start with the console’s Pair/Sync button because Xbox Wireless is separate from the Bluetooth procedure used by other devices. If a previously paired host is nearby, temporarily disabling its Bluetooth is often clearer than repeatedly searching on the new host.

Charging the Xbox Nano Controller
The controller has an internal rechargeable battery. Xbox specifies that a USB-C charging cable is required and sold separately, so a cable may not be included with the controller purchase. Have a compatible USB-C cable available before relying on the controller for a long gaming session.
Charging is a practical requirement for pairing: a controller with too little power may shut down during discovery, disappear from a device list, or lose the connection before a game opens. If the controller will not charge, check that the USB-C plug is fully seated, try another known-good USB-C cable or power source, and allow the controller to build a charge before attempting wireless discovery. Do not treat a missing cable as a wireless fault; the cable is an additional accessory that Xbox says is sold separately.

Troubleshoot pairing and connection problems
The controller does not appear on the host
- Charge the controller, then try again.
- Move it close to the console, PC, phone, or tablet.
- On Bluetooth hosts, turn Bluetooth off and back on before reopening the device list.
- Hold the controller Pair button for the full three seconds and confirm that the Xbox button is flashing.
- Disable Bluetooth on a previous host or remove the saved controller entry there.
- Install any available controller firmware update if connection failures continue.
The Xbox button never starts flashing
Press the Xbox button first so the controller is on, then hold Pair for approximately three seconds. If there is still no flashing light, charge the internal battery and repeat the sequence with the controller close to the host. A short tap of Pair is not the documented discovery action; hold it long enough for the flashing state.
The controller connects to the wrong device
Switch off Bluetooth on the unwanted host or forget the controller in that host’s saved-device list. Then begin discovery on the intended device and select the Nano Controller when it appears. This is especially important when a phone, tablet, and PC are all within range.
The light remains flashing
Flashing means the controller is still searching for a host. On Xbox, press the console’s Pair/Sync button before repeating the controller Pair step. On Windows, Android, or iPhone, stay on the Bluetooth discovery page and select the controller as soon as it appears. If the host never lists it, repeat the charge, proximity, Bluetooth-toggle, and firmware checks.
It says connected, but the game does nothing
The Nano Controller is limited to controller-compatible games and apps. Test it in a title that explicitly supports gamepads; the operating system can show a connected wireless device even when a particular game accepts only touch, keyboard, mouse, or another input type. A successful pairing therefore has two separate checks: the host must establish the wireless link, and the software must support controller input.
Windows pairing labels are not identical to the instructions
Build-specific wording can move the controls, but use the Bluetooth and devices section, turn Bluetooth on, choose Add device, select Bluetooth, and then select the controller. Do not choose a display, printer, or other device category.

| Situation | Best method | What you need to do | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Playing on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One | Xbox Wireless | Press the console Pair/Sync button, then hold the controller Pair button for about three seconds | It is the console-specific method; use Bluetooth menus for other hosts |
| Playing on a Windows 10/11 PC | Bluetooth | Use Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device > Bluetooth | Windows menu wording can vary by build |
| Playing on Android | Bluetooth | Use Connected devices or Bluetooth settings and select the controller | The game must support controllers |
| Playing on iPhone | Bluetooth | Use Settings > Bluetooth and select the controller under Other Devices | The app or game must support controllers |
| Using a compatible smart TV | Bluetooth | Open the television’s Bluetooth accessory screen and put the controller into discovery | Xbox lists support for compatible models, not every smart TV |
The practical choice is therefore determined by the host, not by a preference in the controller menu. Xbox Wireless is required for the listed Xbox consoles. Bluetooth is the route for Windows, Android, iOS, tablets, and compatible televisions. In every case, charge readiness, short distance during setup, and software controller support affect the final result.

What to remember
- Use Xbox Wireless for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
- Use Bluetooth for Windows 10/11, Android, iPhone, tablets, and compatible smart TVs.
- The three-second Pair-button hold is what starts discovery; a flashing Xbox button confirms that state.
- A steady Xbox button means the host has completed the connection.
- The internal battery needs a separately purchased USB-C charging cable.
- Pairing alone is not enough if the game or app does not support controllers.
- When changing hosts, disable Bluetooth or remove the saved controller entry on the previous host.
- Retail price and availability can change, so verify the seller’s current listing and whether a USB-C cable is included.
