For a first build, choose the Bandai ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam. Bandai Hobby’s overseas Gunpla guide calls ENTRY GRADE “The best choice for your first experience” and “Easy assembly!” For a more experienced builder, choose by the exact kit’s scale, mechanisms, parts information and included equipment rather than assuming every kit in a grade has the same difficulty.

Choose by experience first

The word “Strike” appears on kits across several Gunpla grades and package variants. The grade is a useful starting signal, but it is not a standardized skill score. Bandai’s 2023 guide explains each line’s design priorities, scale and approximate example parts count; it does not assign a formal difficulty rating to every Strike Gundam product.

  • First kit or simplest supported start: ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam.
  • Some completed kits and a straightforward display model: compare a specific HG Strike kit, checking its instructions and contents.
  • Some experience and a preference for dense mechanical detail: compare an RG Strike kit and its more involved construction.
  • Comfortable with larger projects and internal mechanisms: consider an MG Strike kit in 1:100 scale.
  • Experienced builder with substantial display space: evaluate a PG Strike kit individually before buying.

This approach separates what is established about a product line from what must be checked for the particular box you are considering.

What each Gunpla grade means for a Strike Gundam build

Grade Bandai’s line description Guide-level scale and example count What it usually means for your decision
ENTRY GRADE Beginner-oriented; “The best choice for your first experience” and “Easy assembly!” 1:144; about 12 cm; about 74 parts Best default when you want the least complicated supported starting point.
HG (High Grade) “A vast lineup of collectables” with easy-to-assemble kits. 1:144; about 13 cm; about 150 parts A broad range of Strike options; inspect the exact kit rather than treating all HG releases as identical.
RG (Real Grade) Emphasizes mechanical texture, movement and a pre-built inner frame. 1:144; about 13 cm; about 250 parts Suitable when you want substantially more surface detail and a more involved assembly experience.
MG (Master Grade) Precise details and gimmicks at a larger scale, with inner details and movement. 1:100; about 18 cm; about 260 parts For builders who want a larger display model and more internal construction.
PG (Perfect Grade) “The ultimate form of GUNPLA.” 1:60; about 30 cm; about 510 parts A large, elaborate project for an experienced builder who has room to display it.

All sizes and counts in this table are approximate line examples from Bandai Hobby’s 2023 overseas Gunpla guide, not verified specifications for every Strike Gundam SKU. A particular release can have a different runner layout, accessory set or part count.

Why ENTRY GRADE is the safest first Strike Gundam

The ENTRY GRADE recommendation is unusually clear because it comes directly from Bandai’s own beginner guidance. The line is presented as easy to assemble and intended for a first experience, and Bandai’s examples include Strike Gundam at 1:144 scale. That makes the standard ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam the strongest evidence-based choice for someone who has never built a snap-fit model.

At approximately 12 cm and about 74 parts in the guide’s line example, it is also a manageable commitment. Those figures describe the ENTRY GRADE line, not a promise that every package contains exactly 74 parts. Use the kit’s manual and product listing for the final contents.

ENTRY GRADE package names are not interchangeable

Bandai’s manual search lists a standard ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam, a Lite Package variant and an ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam Ukiyo-e Package released on 2026-08-29. The standard ENTRY GRADE entry shows a 2022-01-15 release date, while the Lite Package is listed with a 2021-12-17 release date. These dates confirm that the entries exist; they do not confirm current stock, regional availability or price.

A package name can indicate different contents or presentation. Do not assume that an expansion set, alternate pack or optional equipment is included simply because it appears in a product photograph or in the name of another Strike release. Read the exact box description and manual before ordering.

When HG is the better choice

HG is a 1:144 line, approximately 13 cm in the guide’s example, and Bandai describes it as a broad collection of easy-to-assemble kits. Choose a specific HG Strike when you want the familiar small display size but would like to compare more configurations than the beginner package offers.

“Easy to assemble” is a line description, not a guarantee that every HG feels equally simple. Before committing, look for the kit-specific instruction booklet or an official manual entry and check how many assemblies, accessories and articulated sections are shown. A builder who has completed a few basic kits may find HG comfortable; a complete beginner should still compare it directly with ENTRY GRADE rather than assuming the grades are interchangeable.

Use HG when these priorities match

  • You want a 1:144 Strike that remains compact on a shelf.
  • You prefer to choose among particular Strike configurations instead of buying the simplest first-build package.
  • You are willing to read the exact manual and listing for that release.

When RG is worth the extra involvement

RG keeps the 1:144 scale but is designed around mechanical texture, articulation and a pre-built inner frame. Bandai’s guide gives the line example as about 13 cm and about 250 parts, substantially more than its ENTRY GRADE example. The additional parts support detail and movement; they also mean more opportunities to organize runners, follow the manual carefully and correct an assembly mistake before moving on.

Do not describe RG as a formal “advanced” rating on the strength of the grade name alone. The official guide presents its feature priorities, not a universal skill threshold. An experienced builder who values fine detail may prefer RG even if the final model is the same height as an HG. A beginner who mainly wants a quick, uncomplicated first assembly will usually be better served by ENTRY GRADE.

Questions to answer before buying an RG Strike

  • Does the exact manual show the inner-frame and articulation work you want to build?
  • Are you comfortable keeping many small parts organized while following sequential steps?
  • Does the listing specify the accessories for this RG package rather than a separate expansion set?

MG: a larger project with more internal structure

MG is 1:100 in Bandai’s line guide, with an example height of about 18 cm and about 260 parts. Its stated focus is precise detail, gimmicks, inner details and movement. Choose MG when the attraction is not merely owning a Strike Gundam, but building a larger model whose internal construction and mechanisms are part of the experience.

The extra size changes practical requirements. You need a shelf that can accommodate an approximately 18 cm model plus any pose or equipment you intend to display. The manual becomes more important because the line-level count does not tell you how a particular Strike release handles armor, joints or optional equipment. A builder moving from HG or ENTRY GRADE should allow more time for sorting and for checking each subassembly before closing it inside the armor.

MG is a good fit if you want

  • A visibly larger Strike than the 1:144 options.
  • Internal detail and mechanisms that reward a slower build.
  • A display project rather than the quickest route to a finished figure.

PG: choose the project, not just the label

Bandai calls PG “The ultimate form of GUNPLA.” The guide’s PG example is 1:60, about 30 cm tall and about 510 parts. Those figures explain why PG is a major undertaking: it occupies substantially more display space and involves far more components than the beginner line.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

PG makes sense for an experienced builder who specifically wants a large, elaborate Strike project and has a stable place to display it. It is not the sensible first purchase merely because it is the highest grade. Confirm the exact kit’s instructions, mechanisms, accessories and assembly sequence before deciding that the project matches your patience and workspace.

Check these practical constraints first

  • Measure the shelf or cabinet for a model of roughly 30 cm, allowing clearance for poses and equipment.
  • Plan a clean work area where many runners and small parts can remain sorted between sessions.
  • Read the kit-specific manual so the project’s mechanisms match your experience and interests.

A step-by-step method for choosing the exact listing

  1. Set your experience boundary. If this is your first Gunpla, begin with ENTRY GRADE. If you have completed several kits, decide whether your next goal is simplicity, mechanical detail or a larger build.
  2. Choose the scale you can display. ENTRY GRADE, HG and RG are 1:144 in the guide’s line examples; MG is 1:100; PG is 1:60. Use the approximate heights only for initial planning, because a particular release and its pose can differ.
  3. Read the exact grade description. Look for the feature you actually want: easy assembly in ENTRY GRADE, a broad collectible range in HG, mechanical texture and a pre-built frame in RG, internal detail and gimmicks in MG, or a large ultimate-form project in PG.
  4. Identify the complete package name. Distinguish the standard ENTRY GRADE Strike from Lite Package, Ukiyo-e Package, RG, PG and any expansion set. Similar names do not mean identical box contents.
  5. Open the official manual entry or product specification. Use it to inspect the assembly sequence, accessories and configuration-specific parts. Treat the line-level counts in the table as orientation only.
  6. Separate included parts from optional add-ons. Strike expansion sets listed by Bandai apply to particular configurations. They are not automatically included with the basic ENTRY GRADE recommendation.
  7. Check your workspace and time. A compact 1:144 build and a roughly 30 cm PG project create very different sorting and storage demands. Choose the project you can finish without rushing.
  8. Verify the listing’s region and current status. Release dates do not establish current stock or price, and box contents can vary by package or market. Confirm the seller’s exact edition before purchase.

Compare candidates on these five decision axes

Axis What to inspect Why it matters
Grade and scale ENTRY GRADE, HG, RG, MG or PG; 1:144, 1:100 or 1:60. Sets the likely size and the line’s design priorities.
Exact configuration Standard Strike, Lite Package, Ukiyo-e Package, a particular RG or PG release, and named expansion sets. Prevents you from assuming another package’s equipment is included.
Assembly information Kit-specific manual, runner layout, parts information and the number of articulated or internal sections shown. Gives a more useful complexity estimate than the grade name alone.
Detail and mechanisms Surface texture, inner frame, gimmicks, articulation and optional equipment. Matches the build to whether you want speed, mechanical detail or engineering.
Display space Approximate height plus room for poses and accessories. A kit that fits the workbench may not fit the finished display location.

Tools, stands and expansion parts: what is and is not established

The available Bandai material does not establish that nippers, a display stand, paint or expansion parts are required for every Strike kit. Do not add those items automatically to a beginner purchase. Read the chosen kit’s manual for the assembly method and any stated equipment needs.

If the instructions make model-kit nippers useful, treat them as a conditional tool purchase rather than a universal requirement. Likewise, a Strike-related expansion set can be appropriate for a specific configuration but is not a necessary component of the basic ENTRY GRADE recommendation. A stand may be useful for a pose or equipment load, but its inclusion must be confirmed for the exact package.

Common selection mistakes and how to avoid them

Using grade as a guaranteed difficulty score

Bandai does not publish a standardized skill score for these lines. Use the grade to understand scale and design emphasis, then verify the individual instructions. This is especially important when comparing different Strike configurations within one grade.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming every 1:144 Strike is equivalent

ENTRY GRADE, HG and RG all use 1:144 in the guide’s examples, but they serve different purposes. ENTRY GRADE prioritizes a first experience, HG offers a broad collectible lineup, and RG emphasizes texture, movement and an inner frame. Equal scale does not mean equal construction.

Buying from a photograph without checking the box contents

Promotional images can show equipment or configurations associated with another package. Match the product name, manual and included-accessory list. Treat expansions as separate unless the listing explicitly includes them.

Turning approximate line figures into exact specifications

The guide’s approximately 74, 150, 250, 260 and 510 parts are examples for the lines, attributed to Bandai Hobby’s 2023 guide. They should help you gauge relative project size, not replace the exact manual for a Strike SKU.

Confusing release date with availability

The standard ENTRY GRADE listing’s 2022-01-15 date, Lite Package’s 2021-12-17 date and Ukiyo-e Package’s 2026-08-29 date identify releases in Bandai’s manual search. They do not prove that a package is currently stocked in your region or establish a current price.

Three practical buying scenarios

Scenario 1: You have never built Gunpla

Select the standard ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam. Confirm that the listing is the intended package, read its manual, and avoid assuming that an expansion, stand or specialized tool is included or required. Its beginner-oriented positioning gives you the clearest starting point without committing to a large project.

Scenario 2: You have finished a few kits and want more visual detail

Compare HG and RG listings for the exact Strike configuration you like. Choose HG when you want a simpler 1:144 display build; choose RG when the inner frame, mechanical texture and movement are the reason you are building. Use the manual and accessory list to resolve differences between releases.

Scenario 3: You want a centerpiece model

Compare MG and PG. MG offers a larger 1:100 model with internal detail and mechanisms, while PG is a roughly 30 cm, approximately 510-part line example aimed at an elaborate project. Select PG only when its specific manual and your available display space support that commitment.

The short decision rule

Choose ENTRY GRADE 1/144 for the first build, HG for a comparatively approachable 1:144 collection option, RG for dense 1:144 mechanics and texture, MG for a larger internally detailed display model, and PG for an experienced builder seeking the largest, most elaborate project. Then verify the exact Strike package, manual, accessories and regional listing before paying.
