DREADMOOR is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access on 9 November 2026. Dream Dock is developing the game and Digital Vortex Entertainment is publishing it. The planned Early Access build is intended to contain a complete core gameplay loop, one major region, the original story, and many fish species and mutations. The planned Early Access period is approximately six to 12 months, but the final schedule and feature list can change as development and community feedback shape the game.
The most important save warning is that pre-release playtest progress is disposable. Official guidance says playtest saves will not carry into future playtests, demos, betas, or the full game, and recommends deleting the local Saved folder before starting a fresh game if you continue from an older test. That warning should not be treated as a promise that every future Early Access save will be erased, nor as a guarantee that saves will survive major updates.
What DREADMOOR Early Access is supposed to include
The launch version is designed around a full playable loop rather than a short technology preview. The announced scope includes one major region, the original story, a broad selection of fish species and mutations, and enough systems to continue playing after the available story content.
The core loop
DREADMOOR combines skill-based fishing, survival crafting, real-time combat, and exploration in a flooded, decaying world. You travel by trawler between settlements, fish and collect resources, trade catches, gather scrap and blueprints, craft equipment, and face mutated creatures both on land and at sea. Boat and equipment upgrades are part of the progression path, so exploration, resource gathering, and fishing feed into one another instead of operating as isolated activities.

What you can do after the story content
When you reach the end of the story content available in Early Access, the announced activities are continued exploration, fishing, collecting rare specimens, and improving your boat and equipment. That means the build is intended to remain playable beyond its narrative endpoint, although the amount of optional content and the long-term replay value are not quantified in the official material.

The six-to-12-month estimate is explicitly approximate. Development plans may evolve, and the store FAQ does not provide a fixed update calendar or guarantee that every proposed feature will ship exactly as described.
Do playtest, demo, and Early Access saves carry over?
Pre-release playtest saves
No. The official playtest guidance states that progress from a playtest will not be retained for future playtests, demos, betas, or the full game. It also warns that continuing from an earlier save can produce issues and unexpected bugs.

- Exit DREADMOOR completely.
- Find the local DREADMOOR game files on your PC.
- Make a backup copy of the
Savedfolder if you want to preserve it for reference. - Delete the active
Savedfolder, following the official playtest guidance. - Launch the current build and choose a new game rather than loading an older test save.
Deleting that folder is guidance for avoiding problems with pre-release builds; it is not a universal instruction to delete every Early Access save after every update.

Early Access save compatibility
The official information does not promise cross-build save compatibility for the Early Access period. Treat each substantial update as a possible compatibility change: back up your saves before updating, read the current build notes, and be prepared to start over if the developer says a reset is required or if an old save causes errors. A save that loads successfully is not proof that every changed system is functioning correctly, so report reproducible problems through the channels the team provides.
What about the free demo?
The DREADMOOR Demo launched on Steam on 6 October 2026. It has its own questline and takes players to a remote settlement and nearby islands by boat and on foot. The demo showcases fishing, scavenging, crafting, ship upgrades, exploration, and combat. Demo progress should be considered separate from the planned Early Access campaign unless a later official announcement says otherwise.

These are planned additions beyond the one-region Early Access scope. They should not be read as a dated roadmap or a guarantee that every item will arrive in a particular update.

Systems receiving continuing work
Official development notes identify active work across fishing and fish behaviour, progression and crafting, nighttime danger, trawler systems, fuel and survival mechanics, puzzles and environmental interactions, creature encounters, and world-building and exploration. Those categories describe development priorities. They do not establish a delivery date, a specific patch number, or a promise that every experiment will remain in the final design.
What the developer says is already in place
The team describes DREADMOOR’s core experience and main gameplay systems as already in place. In practical terms, that supports buying the game for the announced loop of fishing, crafting, exploration, combat, trading, and boat progression. It does not mean the game is feature-complete, balanced, fully optimized, or finished across all planned regions.
How updates may change your experience
Early Access updates are expected to combine new content with corrective work. Smaller content updates are planned alongside improvements to balance, stability, performance, and overall polish. Changes can therefore affect more than map size: fish behaviour, progression costs, nighttime danger, fuel pressure, crafting recipes, encounters, controls, or the economy may be adjusted as the game develops.

- Back up your current save files.
- Read the update notes for reset warnings, known issues, and changed systems.
- Record the build number if you are reporting a bug.
- Keep screenshots or short clips for problems involving combat, fishing, quests, or visual glitches.
If an update causes a problem
- Restart the game and verify whether the issue is reproducible.
- Test with a new save if the problem appears only in an older campaign.
- Check whether the developer has identified a known issue or required save reset.
- Report the problem with your platform, build, save situation, steps to reproduce, and any error message.
Do not assume that rolling back to an older save will repair a changed system. An incompatible save can create additional bugs, which is why the official playtest guidance favors a clean start when moving between certain pre-release versions.

Should you buy DREADMOOR in Early Access?
Early Access is a good fit if
- You want to play the one-region core loop as soon as it launches.
- You enjoy fishing, crafting, survival pressure, exploration, and horror encounters in the same game.
- You are comfortable with balancing changes, bugs, performance fixes, and possible save-management work.
- You would rather participate in development feedback than wait for the finished content set.
Waiting is the safer choice if
- Your priority is the later regions and expanded adventures.
- You want the additional fish, fishing mechanics, and boat upgrades planned for the full release.
- You need a stable, polished experience with predictable save behavior.
- You do not want to replay content after a reset or major system change.
Price timing
The official FAQ says DREADMOOR will be offered at a lower price during Early Access and that the developer plans to raise the price at full release. No numeric price is supplied in the cited official material, so the decision should be based on the announced scope and your tolerance for an evolving build rather than on an assumed discount amount.
How the demo differs from Early Access
The free demo is a separate pre-release experience with its own questline, remote settlement, and surrounding islands. It is useful for sampling the basic activities—fishing, scavenging, crafting, ship upgrades, exploration, and combat—without treating that progress as the beginning of your eventual campaign. Earlier PC/Windows playtests, including the September 2026 open playtest, were also temporary test environments; the open test had no NDA and warned that progress would not carry into future versions.
If the demo’s controls, travel, fishing, and atmosphere appeal to you, Early Access adds the larger announced structure: one major region, the original story, broader fish and mutation variety, and continued progression after the available story. The demo alone cannot establish how the full Early Access economy, balance, performance, or save system will behave.

How to send useful feedback
The developer plans to collect feedback through Steam Discussions, the official Discord, in-game feedback tools, surveys, social media, and other community platforms. The named feedback areas include fishing, exploration, progression, difficulty, the economy, nighttime expeditions, controls, accessibility, and performance.

A practical bug or balance report
- Identify the build or update you were playing.
- State whether the save began in the current build, a prior test, the demo, or Early Access.
- List the exact steps that trigger the issue.
- Describe the expected result and what happened instead.
- Include screenshots, video, or error text when available.
- Separate a reproducible bug from a suggestion about balance or design.
Specific reports are more useful than a general statement that something feels wrong, especially for systems such as fish behaviour, fuel consumption, nighttime danger, progression costs, or trawler handling that may be actively changing.
Questions to ask when comparing DREADMOOR with another Early Access game
Do not compare only store-page feature counts. Use the same questions for each game:
- How much story and map content is playable at launch?
- Are saves expected to survive major updates, and what does the developer say about resets?
- Which features are committed, and which are exploratory or subject to change?
- How often does the team communicate, and through which channels?
- What is the price now, and is a full-release price increase planned?
- Do you actually want the combination of fishing, crafting, survival, exploration, combat, and horror?
For DREADMOOR, the answers are clear on scope and uncertainty: one major region and a complete core loop are planned for Early Access; future regions and several system expansions are planned for the full release; save compatibility across builds is not guaranteed; and no fixed update calendar has been published.
