Its maker lists a 12 MP camera and video up to 3K, but limits each recording to 10 minutes. If you want a wearable screen for films or gaming instead, XREAL Air 2 is a different kind of glasses: it has a micro-OLED display and no camera for capturing the real world. The right alternative depends first on whether you want a camera, a display or audio without a camera.
What Meta Glasses Nova does—and what counts as an alternative
Target’s US listing for Meta Glasses, Nova Small AI Glasses describes hands-free photo and video capture, Meta AI, open-ear speakers, calling and a privacy indicator light. That particular Small configuration is listed with a 12 MP camera, 3K video, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a weight of 49 g; Target showed a price of $329.99 when accessed. Price and stock can change, and the Small fit and lens details should not be generalized to every Nova variant.
Meta’s launch announcement describes Meta Glasses as a line developed with EssilorLuxottica, with three initial styles and more than eight hours of battery life. At launch, Meta said its Muse Spark model powered Meta AI on Meta Glasses in the US and Canada, with other markets planned over time; Meta updated that market statement in July 2026. “Smart glasses” covers products with distinct jobs. A camera-and-AI pair is the closest functional match to Nova; a display pair puts a virtual screen in front of you; and audio-first glasses may omit the camera altogether. Those categories are not interchangeable.

Best camera-and-AI alternatives to Nova
Rokid AI Glasses Style: closest documented non-Meta match
Rokid’s product information lists a 12 MP Sony camera, video recording up to 3K at 30 fps, a recording indicator, open-ear speakers and AI responses delivered through audio and its companion app. The frame weighs 38.5 g without prescription lenses, according to Rokid. The main practical constraint is the maker’s maximum recording length of 10 minutes per clip. Rokid lists Android 12 or later and iOS 16 or later as requirements, so the phone and app are part of the setup. Its listed prescription range is -15.00D to +15.00D, subject to regional and prescription availability; confirm that your specific prescription and lens option can be supplied. Solos AirGo V2: another camera-equipped option, with stock uncertainty
Solos lists AirGo V2 with 16 MP photos, 2K video, AI applications, Bluetooth 5.2 and Android/iOS support. The brand’s page lists approximately 16 hours for photo capture and AI inquiries, 10 hours for music streaming, or 7 hours for calls, while noting that operation time varies by task. These are Solos’ stated figures, not independent endurance measurements. The inspected Prime 2 variant was marked “Unavailable” when the page was checked, so confirm current stock and price before treating it as a purchasable option. The page listed $299 at that time. Best display alternative: XREAL Air 2
XREAL Air 2 is for a different need: a personal display for gaming, films or other compatible devices, not hands-free real-world capture. XREAL lists a 0.55-inch Sony micro-OLED panel, 1920 × 1080 pixels per eye, refresh rates up to 120 Hz, stereo speakers and a weight of 72 g. Its FAQ explicitly says Air 2 does not have a camera that captures real-world images. The US shop showed $199 when accessed; price may change. XREAL Air 2 US product page.

XREAL says Air 2 can connect to phones, PCs and game consoles, subject to compatibility, and supports a detachable prescription lens frame. A compatible Beam Pro is an optional companion for spatial display modes; it does not replace Nova’s camera-capture function. Check device compatibility and prescription options for your setup before choosing this route.
Camera-free audio glasses from Meta
If your priority is music or audio assistance and you specifically want no camera, Meta and EssilorLuxottica announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio in September 2026 as a camera-free line with open-ear audio. It remains part of the Meta family, so it is not an alternative for someone trying to leave Meta’s ecosystem. Its launch timing and feature availability may differ by geography and date. Specifications and prices above come from the cited manufacturer pages or Target’s US listing; they are not results of a head-to-head test. Choose using the questions that matter for your use:
- Do you need a world-facing camera? Rokid and Solos list cameras; XREAL Air 2 and Ray-Ban Meta Audio do not serve Nova’s camera-capture role.
- How long do you need to record? Rokid states a 10-minute per-clip ceiling. Check each maker’s current recording limits and how its companion app handles captured media.
- Do you want audio or a visual display? Rokid and Nova describe open-ear audio, while XREAL’s screen is designed for viewing content. A display changes the use case rather than simply adding a feature.
- Will the frame and lenses work for you? Compare weight and fit as well as prescription support. The Nova listing cited here is for a Small configuration; Rokid’s lens availability depends on prescription and region, and XREAL offers a detachable prescription lens frame.
- Will it work with your phone, and can you buy it where you live? Confirm operating-system requirements, app availability, regional features and current stock. Solos’ inspected variant was unavailable when checked, while listed prices may change.
- What privacy controls matter to you? Rokid lists a recording indicator, and Nova’s Target listing mentions a privacy indicator light. An indicator is one product feature, not a complete answer to every privacy concern; consider where media is stored and how the companion service works.
How to choose
- For camera capture, AI and non-Meta ownership: start with Rokid AI Glasses Style, then verify the 10-minute recording limit, phone requirements and lens availability against your needs.
- For another camera-equipped contender: consider Solos AirGo V2 if current stock is available in your region and its capture and AI features fit your priorities.
- For films, gaming or a large virtual screen: consider XREAL Air 2 only if a display—not a camera—is what you want.
- For audio without a camera: Ray-Ban Meta Audio is a camera-free option announced by Meta, but it does not take you outside Meta’s ecosystem.
