There is no single best loadout or proven best MRP route in Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Build for the mission’s target mix, keep carrier-capable aircraft available, and spend campaign MRP with upcoming sorties in mind. Official guidance says to tailor aircraft, upgrade parts, and special weapons to each mission; available post-launch coverage describes MRP uses but does not establish prices, rewards, or an optimal unlock sequence.
How to choose the best aircraft and weapons for a mission
Start with the briefing, not the aircraft tree. Bandai Namco’s official overview says missions include dogfighting, ground support, and naval strikes, and advises optimizing your craft for each mission. Its systems walkthrough likewise describes choosing aircraft and special weapons around the objective. See the official game overview and systems walkthrough.
Before committing, identify the main target type, whether the sortie calls for air-to-air or air-to-ground capability, which special weapon suits that target mix, and whether the aircraft is available for the mission. The sources do not publish comparative aircraft stats, weapon damage, or tested aircraft-and-weapon combinations, so a specific build cannot be called objectively best on this evidence.
Air-to-air engagements
For a dogfight-focused sortie, prioritize a suitable air-to-air special weapon and an aircraft you can control through the engagement. The walkthrough describes complete 360-degree flight and high-G defensive turns, but does not rank aircraft or weapons. Use the briefing and current in-game descriptions to make the final selection rather than assuming one fighter dominates every air battle.

Ground support
When the objective centers on ground targets, select a special weapon suited to those targets and check that the chosen aircraft can carry it. The official materials support tailoring the weapon and aircraft to the mission, but do not provide enough data to prescribe a universally superior ground-attack combination.
Naval strikes
For a naval objective, check the target list and available anti-surface options before spending MRP on a new aircraft or weapon. Naval strikes are an official mission category; exact weapon effectiveness, target-specific requirements, and aircraft rankings are not established in the cited materials.

Keep carrier compatibility in your roster
A Tom’s Guide review published October 3, 2026, reports that some mid-game missions restrict players to carrier-only aircraft. It does not name every affected mission or list all eligible aircraft. Treat carrier compatibility as a roster-planning warning: avoid spending your entire budget on aircraft that may not be usable in an upcoming sortie, and check the mission requirements before buying.
How to make wingmen part of the loadout plan
Aircraft selection is only part of preparation. Bandai Namco says players can order allied pilots to focus a target, divide tasks, cover the player, or use special weapons. Match those orders to the sortie: concentrating fire can support a priority target, while cover can help when you need protection. The official overview describes these commands as part of the game’s combat design: Bandai Namco’s overview of missions and wingman commands.

Campaign MRP can also be spent on teammate aircraft, according to Tom’s Guide and a Creative Bloq review. Creative Bloq reports that better-equipped wingmen can improve their equipment when called to cover the player. This creates a real allocation choice: a squad investment may improve support, but it competes with purchases for your own aircraft, weapons, or upgrades. Neither review identifies a best balance or quantifies the resulting combat benefit. See Tom’s Guide’s campaign review and Creative Bloq’s review.
How to earn and spend campaign MRP
Post-launch reviews report that campaign MRP buys jets, weapons, and upgrades, and can also fund aircraft for teammates. The available sources do not state mission-by-mission MRP rewards, purchase prices, total route costs, or repeatable farming methods. That means there is not enough published information to name a fastest or most efficient unlock path without current in-game figures.

- Unreal Engine 4 Technologies - Breathtaking clouds coupled with highly detailed aircraft and photorealistic scenery make this the most engaging Ace Combat to date.
- Dynamic Weather - Witness the sudden changes during your flight and strive to fight the environmental conditions to take advantage over your enemy.
- Return To Strange Real-World - The alternative Ace Combat universe is composed of real-world current and near-future weapons, but with a history steeped in Ace Combat lore.
A practical spending framework
- Check the next mission’s requirements. Review the briefing and target mix before purchasing anything. Note any aircraft or carrier restrictions shown in-game.
- Cover a capability gap first. If your available roster cannot address the upcoming target type, prioritize an aircraft or special weapon that fills that gap over a marginal upgrade.
- Compare personal and squad needs. Decide whether the next purchase should improve your own aircraft or equip a wingman whose support role matters to your plan.
- Keep a reserve when the next sortie is uncertain. Because some mid-game missions have reportedly imposed carrier-only restrictions, avoid locking all campaign MRP into a narrow roster before checking what comes next.
- Use actual costs and rewards from your game. Record the MRP cost shown for each unlock and the payout after each mission if you want to compare routes. The cited coverage does not provide those figures.
What an evidence-based MRP route would compare
A useful route comparison needs more than the names of aircraft on the tree. It should account for total MRP spent, missions and time required, whether each purchase is available for upcoming mission types, and whether the route invests in wingmen or only the player’s aircraft. Those values are not established by the published sources cited here, so routes circulating without current costs and rewards should not be treated as verified best paths.
Keep campaign MRP separate from online progression
ACE COMBAT ONLINE has separate progression and save data, according to Bandai Namco’s multiplayer announcement. Do not treat online progression, seasonal rewards, or pass levels as campaign MRP or as evidence of a campaign unlock route. The announcement also states that the online Air Base lobby can hold up to 100 players; that is lobby capacity, not the size of an individual combat match. Bandai Namco’s multiplayer details.
Availability
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launched October 2, 2026. Bandai Namco lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The advice here concerns campaign aircraft, weapons, and MRP; it does not assume that online progression or rewards carry over to the campaign. Official release and platform information appears in the launch announcement.
