Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA: At First Glance

The Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is one of Samsung’s affordable QLED product lines of TVs. This TV falls within the mid-range category but has qualities that can match that of top-tier Samsung TV models.

Precisely, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA cost $1,074.99 as of April 2022, when this review was written.

Despite its price, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA indeed comes with mouthwatering features that can influence your buying decision positively. Therefore, to find out about these features, continue reading.

Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is a slim television that is made of plastic. From its front view, you will see the TV’s display that is bordered by thin bezels.

Specifically, the bezels measure only 0.55-inch which makes them less distracting. The plastic bezels are not only slim, but they also have a metallic finish which completes its contemporary look.

On the bottom bezel, you will find a “Samsung” inscription at the center with a button beneath it. This button gives you access to the basic controls of the TV.

As a means of standing the TV on a desk, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA comes with a set of V-shaped legs. The legs have a metallic black finish and are made of solid plastics as well.

Besides that, the legs are also tall, so a soundbar can fit at the bottom of the TV. Moreover, the legs are attached to the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA on each end which gives reliable support to the television.

However, the TV will still wobble a bit when bumped, but that is nothing to worry about.

Turning over to the rear of the television, you will find its plastic back panel with a nicely textured finish. One important feature of this TV back view is a cable management system that allows the clipping of cables to the TV’s feet.

Hence, allowing cables connected to the TV to remain organized.

As for the ports, you will also find them at the back of the TV. Despite being at the back of the TV, the ports can be readily reached even if the television is wall-mounted.

Speaking of wall-mounting, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA has 200 x 200 VESA holes that you can use to mount the TV on the wall. Thankfully, due to its slimness, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA will blend nicely with the wall when you mount it.

Having exhausted the features, you will find on the front and back views of the TV, let us now talk about its size and weight. In that regard, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA measures 1455.4 x 58.4 x 835.6 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 25990.8 g.

Comparatively, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is heavier than the Samsung UN65NU6070FXZA and TCL 65R625. Specifically, the Samsung UN65NU6070FXZA and TCL 65R625 weigh 24992.9 g and 23995.04 g, respectively.

In conclusion, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is a nicely built laptop with a modern design. It is slim and blends nicely with the wall when wall-mounted.

It also has a pair of well-supporting legs if you decide to place it on a piece of flat furniture. To crown it all, there is a cable management system for organizing the cables connected to the TV.

Considering all that, I will be rating the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA a nine out of ten in this section of the review.

Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA: Display Features and Picture Quality

For the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA, what you will get is a 65-inch Quantum dot LED display. This display has a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution.

As a result of its high resolution, the TV should be able to display sharp, colorful, and quality pictures. Aside from that, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA also has an impressive contrast ratio of 6,292:1.

For better understanding, contrast ratio refers to the proportion of bright whites and deep blacks that a display can produce. If a TV has a high contrast ratio, dark movie scenes will be very dark and interesting to watch.

Thankfully, that is the case with the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA. However, it is a bit sad that this TV does not support local dimming.

For your information, local dimming is a display technology that deepens the blacks on a display. In other words, local dimming helps the contrast ratio to produce better deep blacks by reducing the backlight.

Hence, making dark scenes even more interesting to watch.

Although the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA misses out on this due to its lack of local dimming, its high contrast ratio is sufficient.

Moving on, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA has a peak brightness of 411 nits for standard content viewing. Thankfully, with such peak brightness, you should have no issue watching content from a DVD player or live cable broadcast.

However, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA has a mediocre screen brightness of 424 nits when watching HDR content. Hence, some highlights in HDR videos will not be as bright as they should be.

Next, let’s discuss the viewing angles of this TV. To get a satisfactory view of a display at acute angles, a good viewing angle is essential.

That said, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA, like other VA (vertical alignment) panel-type TVs, fails to impress with its viewing angles. So, aside from viewing the display when you sit facing it, its color accuracy reduces, and images will look washed out when viewing the display from the sides.

On a brighter note, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). With HDR, the display will deliver sharp and bright colors with deeper blacks.

In addition to that, the HDR format is ideal when watching HDR content because it enhances the mediocre brightness of the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA. To crown it all, this TV features technologies like Quantum HDR 4X and 4K AI Upscaling.

To begin with, Quantum HDR 4X uncovers details hidden in dark or bright zones and brightens them in HDR content. In other words, the Quantum HDR 4X will deliver brighter HDR content.

For the 4K AI upscaling, this technology enhances lower-resolution content to higher resolutions.

At this point, let’s proceed to the reflection handling ability of this TV. The Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA’s display has a semi-glossy finish that helps to absorb and disperse indirect glares.

However, the display will still struggle with reflection in conditions of direct bright lights.

In terms of motion handling, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA has an amazing response time of 10.4 milliseconds. For more details, response time measures the speed at which display pixels change from one color to another.

Besides that, a fast response is great when watching fast-motion content like action movies or sports. As a result of the impressive response time of the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA, pictures will transition smoothly.

In addition to the display features we have discussed so far, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is capable of registering an input lag as low as 6 milliseconds. For better understanding, input lag is the time difference between when a signal is sent and when it projects on the display.

For a better gaming experience, a low input lag is crucial. Hence, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is good for gaming thanks to its low input lag.

In conclusion, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA offers a high contrast ratio and has good motion handling, which makes it ideal for gamers. However, it has poor HDR brightness and lacks local dimming.

Therefore, I will be rating the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA an eight in this section of the review.

Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA: Sound Features

The Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA comes with 2 channels 20 watts speakers. These speakers produce quality audio.

However, they do not deliver the ample audio qualities that external speakers would offer. In addition to that, these speakers are also deficient in bass.

Hence, you won’t be getting rumbles in the sounds produced by these speakers. As a solution to that, I recommend that you use a soundbar to get the desired bass.

On the positive side, I am glad that the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA is capable of delivering clear dialogue. Hence, in TV programs where two or more people are conversing, you will hear them clearly.

Next up, let’s discuss the sound technology that the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA offers. Firstly, this TV has a Dolby Digital Plus audio enhancer.

Thankfully, the Dolby Digital Plus technology helps the TV to produce immersive cinematic audio quality. Additionally, with the support of the Dolby Digital Plus presets, the speakers can deliver a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, depending on the content you are watching.

When it comes to distortion performance, the result of the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA in the total harmonic distortion test is not so impressive. For clarity, total harmonic distortion test (THD) measures the deviation of sound produced from the original sound.

Note that a distortion-free sound should measure below 0.01 (1%) THD. Unfortunately, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA measures a 0.350 THD at average volume and 0.655 THD at maximum volume.

This implies that at average volume, this TV produces a quite noticeable sound distortion which also increases as the volume increases.

In summary, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA delivers clear dialogue and can produce loud sound thanks to its 40 watts speakers. Sadly, it lacks adequate bass and produces significant sound distortion.

Hence, I will be rating the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA a seven in this section of the review.

Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA: Ports and Connectivity Features

The Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA comes with adequate port options for input and output connectivity. All the ports are side-facing but located at the back of the TV.

These ports include four HDMI ports with one being ARC (audio return channel) compatible. Thankfully, the ARC-compatible HDMI port allows you to connect to a soundbar.

In addition to the HDMI ports, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA also has two USB ports. The USB ports allow users to connect USB devices such as storage devices and dongles.

Other ports include an optical digital output port, an RF port, and an Ethernet port for wired access to the internet.

As part of its criteria for being a smart TV, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA comes with an in-built 802.11ac/a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity.

Moving on, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA comes with the Samsung’s TM1950C remote control. The remote is slim and has a curved body which gives it a premium look.

In addition to that, the remote comes in just about the right size that comfortably fits in the palm. Also, it has a plastic body with a matte-black finish, and it’s outfitted with a couple of functional buttons.

These buttons include a power button, a voice input button, a home button, a return button, and a circular directional pad. Also, the remote features three dedicated buttons that give you quick access to Netflix, HULU, and Amazon Prime Video.

However, the remote doesn’t have the usual numeric buttons but rather has a single button that activates on-screen numbers. At the center of the remote, you will find the volume and channel buttons.

Another feature of the remote is its in-built mic that allows users to send voice commands to the TV.

To conclude this section, the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA offers adequate port options and functional remote control. Therefore, I will rate it a nine out of ten in this review.
