LG 49UK6300PUE: At First Glance

LG are have been consistent in introducing new technologies and TVs that meet users’ demands. Hence, to continue with this great legacy, the brand released the LG 49UK6300PUE in 2018.

This LG television is a 49-inch 4K smart television that offers adequate performance and lots of amazing features. Some of the features include a low input lag, webOS, wide viewing angles, and HDR compatibility.

Moreover, despite its amazing features, this television isn’t particularly expensive – it costs less than $1000. To be more specific, when this review article was published in March 2022, the LG 49UK6300PUE had a price tag of $899.

Having said all that, I urge you to continue reading this review article to find out more about the LG 49UK6300PUE.

LG 49UK6300PUE: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The LG 49UK6300PUE comes with a basic design that surprisingly looks good. To give more details, this television has thin bezels that surround its 49-inch display.

Moreover, these bezels are made of plastic with a matte-black texture. Furthermore, you will find the “LG” logo imprinted at the center of the bottom bezel.

This logo serves as a means of brand identification as well as to beautify the front side of the TV. That said, let us now discuss the back of the television.

First and foremost, the LG 49UK6300PUE comes with a plain back panel that is made of solid plastic. Furthermore, as with the bezels, this plastic back panel offers a matte-black finish.

However, the back panel is quite chunky. Hence, the LG 49UK6300PUE will stick out of the wall and look somewhat odd when wall-mounted.

Talking of wall-mounting, the television’s back panel features holes that can house a 200 X 200 VESA mount for wall-mounting the LG 49UK6300PUE. Sadly, you won’t find any form of cable management system on this back panel.

Thus, one would often need to manually arrange the cables connected to the television to make them look tidy. On a bright note, the LG 49UK6300PUE comes with a pair of plastic legs that are very sturdy.

As a matter of fact, these legs are so sturdy that you will hardly notice any wobble when you nudge the television with force. Besides, the legs feature a glossy-black finish that makes them shiny and attractive.

However, each of the legs is situated very close to the edges of the television. As a result, when the LG 49UK6300PUE isn’t wall-mounted, you will need a fairly large table or desk to place it on.

That said, let us now discuss the dimension and weight of this LG television. The LG 49UK6300PUE measures 1109.9 x 78.7 x 650.2 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 11067.6 g.

When compared to another 49-inch television (Sony X900F), this LG television weighs less. To be more specific, the Sony X900F weighs 13600 g and measures 1093 x 69 x 629 mm (W x D x H).

All things considered, I will rate the LG 49UK6300PUE an eight out of ten in this design review section.

LG 49UK6300PUE: Display Features and Picture Quality

As stated earlier, the LG 49UK6300PUE has a 49-inch LED display. Like most modern televisions, this display comes with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

Having a 4K resolution implies that the display will be able to deliver clear, colorful, and sharp picture quality. As a matter of fact, a 4K resolution display has four times the amount of pixels compared to a typical HD resolution display.

Hence, a 4K display should be four times better, sharper, colorful, and clearer than an HD display. Sadly, despite featuring the impressive 4K UHD resolution, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display offers a poor contrast ratio.

To be more precise, the display comes with a contrast ratio value of 1096:1. Briefly, contrast ratio refers to the difference between the brightest white and the deepest blacks that a display can produce.

Moreover, the contrast ratio of a display primarily determines the black level of the display. Basically, a high contrast ratio means that the display will be able to render deep blacks.

On the contrary, if the contrast ratio is low or below 3000:1, the display won’t be able to render deep blacks. Well, as you can see above, the contrast ratio of the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display is way below 3000:1.

Hence, this television’s display won’t be able to render deep black. In other words, blacks on the display will look more like gray.

As a result, the LG 49UK6300PUE might not be suitable for watching films with numerous dark or shady scenes. To make matters worse, the television’s display does not support local dimming.

Honestly, had it been the display supports local dimming, it would have made up for its poor contrast ratio. This is because local dimming is a technique that enhances the contrast ratio of an LED/LCD display by dimming backlight zones.

Hence, with local dimming, blacks on the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display would have looked darker. Sadly, as said earlier, despite its poor contrast ratio, the display still didn’t support local dimming.

On a positive note, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display supports HDR effects such as HDR10 and HLG. For clarity, the acronym HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.

Also, HDR is a picture technique that enhances a display’s brightness and color production. Hence, when displaying HDR-supported content, the picture quality of the LG 49UK6300PUE will be more realistic and lifelike.

Just in case you’re curious, HDR-supported content can be found on streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Unfortunately, in spite of supporting HDR, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display isn’t bright enough.

To be more specific, the display has a maximum brightness of 296 nits. As a result, the LG 49UK6300PUE may not be suitable for usage in a well-lit or bright room.

On the plus side, because it is made with an IPS panel, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display offers impressive viewing angles. Hence, the picture quality of the display won’t reduce a bit when watching the television off-center or from extreme angles.

Aside from its impressive viewing angles, this television’s display also offers a low input lag. Specifically, the display comes with an input lag of 11.5 milliseconds.

In case you’re wondering, input lag refers to the amount of time a display takes to register a signal input. Furthermore, input lag is one of the most important factors when determining a TV’s gaming capabilities.

This is because a signal input can also come from a wireless gamepad. Hence, the lower the input lag the display has, the better the television’s gaming experience.

Thus, with a display input lag as low as 11.5 milliseconds, the LG 49UK6300PUE is suitable for both competitive and casual gaming. In addition to its outstanding input lag, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display offers a response time of 15 milliseconds.

As a result, this LG television should be ideal for viewing fast-motion content such as sports and car races. This is due to the fact that there will be little to no blur trails when the television is displaying such content.

I know you must be curious about the term “response time”. Well, to satisfy your curiosity, response time is the time it takes a display to change from one particular color to another.

In summary, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s display suffers from two major flaws which are poor contrast ratio and mediocre brightness. Apart from these flaws, the display actually offers decent overall performance.

Therefore, I will rate the LG 49UK6300PUE a seven out of ten in this display review section.

LG 49UK6300PUE: Sound Features

For the sound department, LG equipped the 49UK6300PUE with a pair of 2 CH 20-watt speakers. These speakers deliver good audio quality and are loud enough to fill a large room with sound.

However, despite their loudness, the speakers aren’t capable of producing an adequate amount of bass to enjoy rumbling and thumping sounds. Nevertheless, you can’t really blame the speakers for this because the television lacks a subwoofer – the subwoofer would have enhanced and supported the bass production of the speakers.

Hence, the LG 49UK6300PUE might not be the best television for watching bass-heavy movies. However, if you are a fan of bass-heavy movies, you should consider buying a soundbar alongside the TV.

On a positive note, the LG 49UK6300PUE comes with DTS (Digital Theater System). DTS is a sound technology that filters the speakers’ audio signals, allowing them to deliver an enhanced and cinematic sound quality.

Also, this sound technology allows the speakers to produce clear and audible dialogue. In this context, dialogue refers to the conversation between multiple characters in a film or TV show.

That said, the LG 49UK6300PUE offers an impressive distortion performance. This is evident through the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) test result of the television.

For clarity, the THD test is an evaluation that assesses the amount of distortion that a sound device or speaker can generate. Furthermore, a score of 1% or below on this test indicates that the speaker generates minimal distortion.

Meanwhile, if the THD score is above 1%, that means the speaker generates a significant amount of distortion. Impressively, the LG 49UK6300PUE delivered a score of 0.5% on the THD test.

Hence, neither at a maximum or moderate volume level, the distortion that the television’s speakers will produce will be very minimal. As a matter of fact, you may not notice any distortion.

Just to be clear, distortion in this context is when a speaker’s original audio signals are altered. Thereby, allowing the speaker to deliver inappropriate and disturbing sound quality.

Hence, to conclude this sound review section, I will be rating the LG 49UK6300PUE an eight out of ten.

LG 49UK6300PUE: Port and Connectivity Features

To start off, the LG 49UK6300PUE features a reasonable amount of port. However, most of the ports are situated directly on the TV’s back while a few are left-facing.

Hence, if the LG 49UK6300PUE is eventually wall-mounted, accessing most of the ports might not be as easy as you think. With that being said, let us now discuss the varieties of ports that this television features.

First and foremost, among the left-facing ports, you will find two HDMI ports, one of which supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). Hence, by using the ARC-supported HDMI port, you will be able to connect a soundbar to the television.

Asides from these HDMI ports, there is also a single USB port on the left side of the television. However, directly on the TV’s back, you will discover another USB port, an Ethernet port, an RF connector, and an HDMI port.

That’s not all, there is also digital optical audio out and a composite video input directly on the LG 49UK6300PUE’s back. Meanwhile, for wireless connectivity, this LG television comes with Bluetooth 4.2 as well as a built-in 802.11ac WIFI.

Moving on, the LG 49UK6300PUE comes with the standard AKB75375604 remote control. This remote control is quite long, made of plastic, and features a matte-black finish.

Moreover, the remote also contains quite a number of rubber buttons. Some of these buttons include two dedicated buttons for quick access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Besides, the remote also features a full number pad and a plus-shaped navigation button. Furthermore, at the bottom of the remote, there is a white “LG” logo that serves for brand recognition.

Sadly, unlike high-end remote controls, the LG 49UK6300PUE’s remote doesn’t offer a built-in mic for voice input.

In conclusion, although the LG 49UK6300PUE features a reasonable amount of ports, most of them cannot be easily accessed. This is due to the fact that they are directly on the television’s back.

Hence, I will be rating the LG 49UK6300PUE an eight out of ten in this ports and connectivity features review section.

LG 49UK6300PUE: Smart Features

As expected from an LG smart television, the LG 49UK6300PUE runs on the webOS. This operating system offers an interface that has smooth animation, is lag-free, easy to use, and straightforward.

As a result, navigating around the interface should be very easy and seamless. Aside from its outstanding interface, the webOS also offers a wide range of popular streaming apps.

Some of these popular streaming apps include Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, HBO, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. To make things interesting, the webOS features the LG Content Store, where you can download more streaming apps of your choice.

However, the LG content store doesn’t have plenty of streaming apps compared to the Samsung store or Google Play Store. On the bright side, with the help of the LG Smart Share app, you should be able to stream/share content from your smart devices to the LG 49UK6300PUE.

Interestingly, the LG Smart Share app is compatible with most operating systems such as Andriod OS, Windows OS, Linux, iOS, and macOS. Therefore, in the smart features review section, I will be rating the LG 49UK6300PUE a nine out of ten.
