Hisense H9F: At First Glance

Over the years, Hisense has released some stunning high-quality televisions at super affordable prices. However, in 2019, Hisense released the Hisense H9F, which is a high-quality television but isn’t affordable.

Speaking of affordability, the Hisense H9F had a price tag of $1,498.99 in February 2022, when I wrote this article. Probably one of the reasons this television costs so much is due to its outstanding U-LED 4K display.

Besides, this television comes with some amazing features that make me believe that it is worth the $1000+ price tag. However, to find out about the amazing features that I am talking about, you have to read this article all the way to the end.

Hisense H9F: Design, Dimension, and Weight

To start with, the Hisense H9F comes with a decent design and impressive build quality. Although this television is mostly made of plastic, it features a few metallic parts.

One of these metallic parts is the television’s stand. To be more specific, the Hisense H9F features a silver metallic stand that has wide footprints.

Due to the metallic build of this stand, it is very sturdy and supports the television very well. However, that doesn’t mean that the Hisense H9F won’t wobble a bit when nudged with force.

That said, the Hisense H9F comes with relatively thin bezels. Unlike the stand, these bezels are made of plastic and feature a matte-black finish.

Moreover, the bottom bezel comes with a distinctive white “Hisense” logo at the center.

Moving on to the back of the television, the Hisense H9F comes with a simple-looking back panel. The top half of this back panel is made of metal while the bottom half is made of plastic.

Moreover, the bottom half of this back panel is somewhat thicker than the top half. This is because of the bottom half houses all the television’s components, electronics, and ports.

However, due to the thickness of the bottom half of this back panel, the Hisense H9F might look awkward if wall-mounted. Basically, the television will bulge out of the wall when wall-mounted.

Wondering how you can mount the Hisense H9F on the wall? Well, the television features four mount holes on its back panel that can accommodate a VESA 400 x 200 mount.

Sadly, you won’t find a cable management system on the television’s back panel. Considering the television’s expensive price tag, one would have expected a cable management system.

However, Hisense disappointed me in this aspect. As a result of its lack of a cable management feature, you will have to manually arrange the cables attach to the Hisense H9F to make them look a bit organized.

In terms of dimension and weight, the Hisense H9F measures 1450.3 x 73.7 x 838.2 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 19821.9 g. In comparison, the Hisense H9F is lighter than the Sony XBR – 65X900F.

To give more details, the Sony XBR – 65X900F measures 1447 x 69 x 829 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 24500 g.

To round up this design review section, I will rate the Hisense H9F an eight out of ten.

Hisense H9F: Display Features and Picture Quality

Like its predecessor (Hisense H8F), the Hisense H9F comes with a 65-inch U-LED display that offers a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. As an expensive high-end television, I wouldn’t have expected anything less than a 4K resolution.

This is due to the fact that 4K resolution allows a display to render realistic, well-detailed, and clear picture quality. Asides from that, a 4K resolution display is about 4 times better, sharper, and clearer than the regular HD display found on low-end televisions.

In addition to its outstanding 4K resolution, the Hisense H9F’s 65-inch display features an impressive contrast ratio. Specifically, this display comes with a contrast ratio value of 6,006:1.

If you’re curious as to what the term “contrast ratio” is, allow me to explain.

A display’s contrast ratio is the ratio between the darkest black and brightest white the display can produce. Moreover, a high contrast ratio implies that the display will be capable of producing deep, rich blacks.

As a result, the Hisense H9F’s display should be able to produce deep, detailed blacks thanks to its high 6,006:1 contrast ratio. Thus, on the Hisense H9F, films with a lot of shadowy or dark scenes will be appealing to watch.

Also, due to its high display contrast ratio, the Hisense H9F is ideal for dark room viewing. Remarkably, despite having an impressive contrast ratio, the Hisense H9F’s display supports local dimming.

For clarity, local dimming is a picture technique that improves the contrast and brightness of a display by dimming the display’s backlight zones. Thus, with local dimming, blacks on the Hisense H9F’s display will look darker than they are supposed to be without local dimming.

In addition to local dimming, the Hisense H9F’s display supports HDR. High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a picture technique that allows a display to improve image clarity and contrast.

Therefore, when watching HDR-compatible content on the Hisense H9F, the picture quality will be more realistic and bright. In case you are wondering, HDR-compatible content is mostly found on video streaming applications like HULU and Netflix.

Moving on, the Hisense H9F’s display offers an impressive brightness, as one would expect from a $1000+ television. To be more specific, the Hisense H9F’s display comes with a maximum brightness of 516 nits.

Therefore, the television is ideal for use in a bright or moderately-lit room. On the downside, the Hisense H9F’s display offers poor viewing angles.

As a result, the picture quality will reduce rapidly when viewing the Hisense H9F from the sides or off-center. Thus, even though it is a 65-inch television, I don’t recommend this television for large room viewing.

On a positive note, the Hisense H9F’s display has an impressively fast response time of 9.3 milliseconds. Hence, the television is perfect for watching fast-motion content like sports, and action movies.

This is due to the fact that there will be minimal to no blur trails when viewing fast-motion content on the television. In case you were wondering, response time is the amount of time it takes a display to change from one color to another.

That said, the Hisense H9F’s display offers a decently low input lag of 16.1 milliseconds. With a 16.1 milliseconds input lag, the Hisense H9F might not be ideal for competitive gaming, but it is suitable for casual gaming.

For clarity, input lag is the time it takes a display to respond to a signal input such as inputs from a wireless gamepad. As a result, the less input lag there is, the better the gaming experience.

In conclusion, the Hisense H9F comes with an impressive 4K display that offers excellent picture quality. Unfortunately, the display has poor viewing angles.

Therefore, I will rate the Hisense H9F an eight out of ten in this display review section.

Hisense H9F: Sound Features

To begin with, the Hisense H9F offers average performance in the sound department. Specifically, the TV comes with a pair of 15-watts speakers that produces a decent sound quality.

However, the speakers aren’t loud enough to fill a large room with sound. Nevertheless, they are capable enough to fill a medium-sized room with sound.

Sadly, the Hisense H9F lacks a subwoofer. As a result, the television won’t be able to produce enough bass.

Hence, watching bass-heavy movies on the Hisense H9F might not particularly be a good idea. On the bright side, this television’s speakers deliver understandable and clear dialogue.

Thus, when viewing a movie or TV show on this Hisense television, viewers will be able to clearly hear the conversation between characters.

That said, the Hisense H9F offers a really impressive distortion performance. Basically, when watching loud movies on the television, viewers won’t be able to hear any distortion.

To prove this, we will now discuss the television’s performance on the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test. Briefly, THD is a sound test that measures the amount of distortion that an audio device can produce.

Furthermore, scores on this test are usually represented by a percentage (%). Also, the acceptable score on the test is 1% or less.

Impressively, the Hisense H9F scored 0.244% on the THD test, which is way less than the 1% acceptable score. Thus, distortion is totally absent on this television.

If you don’t know, distortion is the alteration of sound frequencies. Therefore, resulting in the production of less appealing and disturbing sound quality.

Even though its speakers aren’t loud enough, I believe the Hisense H9F deserves an eight out of ten rating in this sound review section.

Hisense H9F: Port Connectivity Features

The Hisense H9F offers an impressive number of port and connectivity options. However, as mentioned earlier, these ports are on the bottom half of the television’s back panel.

Therefore, whenever the Hisense H9F is mounted on the wall, accessing these ports might not be easy. That said, now let us talk about the television’s port selection.

The Hisense H9F features four HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, and one USB 2.0 port. Also, this TV comes with an RCA composite video input, L/R audio input, and a 3.5 mm headphone/mic jack.

That’s not all, this Hisense television also features an Ethernet port, a digital audio output, and an RF port. For wireless connectivity, however, the Hisense H9F comes with Bluetooth 5.0 and a built-in 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WIFI.

Moving on, the Hisense H9F comes with a voice remote, as one would expect from a $1000+ television. To give more details, this television’s remote control features a built-in microphone that allows for voice input via Google Assistant.

Asides from the built-in microphone, this remote comes with a full number pad and four dedicated buttons. These dedicated buttons allow for quick access to streaming apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Google Play, and VUDU.

Furthermore, the remote features a square-shaped navigation button with an “OK” button in the middle. Design-wise, the remote is pretty long, good-looking, and features a matte-black finish.

Also, this voice remote control has an italic “Hisense” inscription written at the bottom.

In conclusion, the Hisense H9F offers a good port selection as well as a voice remote control. Therefore, in this port and connectivity review section, I will rate the Hisense H9F a nine out of ten.

Hisense H9F: Smart Features

Like its predecessor (Hisense H8F), the Hisense H9F comes with the Andriod TV version 8.0 operating system. This operating system features a lag-free, user-friendly interface that allows for seamless navigation.

Asides from the user-friendly interface, this operating system offers tons of popular streaming services. A few of the streaming services that you will find on this OS include YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.

Impressively, if you need additionally streaming services on the operating system, you can easily download them from the Google Play Store. Moreover, the user-friendly interface of the Android TV operating system is ad-free.

As a result, when trying to select a streaming service on the interface, you won’t be distracted by annoying commercial popups.

Despite its operating system offering lots of major streaming services, the Hisense H9F comes with a built-in Chromecast. With the help of this Chromecast, users will be able to stream/mirror content from their smart devices to the television.

It is important to mention that to “cast” to the TV from your smart devices, the TV and the smart device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi.

In summary, the Hisense H9F comes with a user-friendly operating system that offers major streaming apps. Therefore, I will be rating the Hisense H9F a nine out of ten in this smart features review section.
