Hisense 65R6E: At First Glance

These days, making decisions on smart TV is somewhat tasking. Even so, with many products out in the market, there might be confusion about the best option that suits your budget.

There are several pricy TV models. However, those that are within a reasonable price range and offer good value can be hard to come by.

Thankfully, the Hisense 65R6E balances price and performance to suit user needs.

Do you want to know how well this TV performs? Read on to find out.

Hisense 65R6E: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Hisense 65R6E is a budget TV so it shouldn’t stir up much expectation when we think about the design. Yet, this television features a gorgeous design.

The Hisense 65R6E seems almost bezel-less, with extremely thin bezels surrounding its 4K resolution display. The bezels are made of plastic and have a glossy black finish.

However, the bottom bezel measures an inch, making it a bit thicker than the top and side bezels. Hence, the bottom bezel has enough room to house a silver “Roku TV” inscription to the right and “Hisense” at the center.

With the descriptions I have mentioned above, I believe you are beginning to picture the looks of the TV already. You might also be wondering if the Hisense 65R6E comes with legs.

Well, the answer to that is yes, it does. The Hisense 65R6E comes with a pair of glossy black V-shaped plastic legs.

These V-shaped legs span the extreme edges of the TV. As a result, you must place the Hisense 65R6E on a wide table if it isn’t wall-mounted.

When it comes to wall-mounting, the Hisense 65R6E can be mounted on the wall thanks to the VESA 400 x 200 holes on its rear. Moreover, since the TV isn’t particularly thick, it won’t bulge out much when mounted on the wall.

Regarding its dimension and weight, the Hisense 65R6E measures 1460.5 x 76.2 x 845.8 mm (W x D x H). Meanwhile, it weighs 19595.1 g.

With this weight and size, you will agree with me that the Hisense 65R6E is indeed a bit heavy. However, it is not as heavy as most 65-inch TVs.

For example, the Samsung QA65Q70RAKXXA and the Sony XBR – 65X900F weigh 24300 g and 24500 g, respectively.

Finally, even though the Hisense 65R6E is a budget TV, it has some impressive design features. To this end, I’ll be rating the TV an eight out of ten in this review section.

Hisense 65R6E: Display Features

The Hisense 65R6E boasts a 65-inch LED display with a resolution of 4K UHD (3840 x 2160). As expected of a 4K resolution display, it offers clear and colorful content.

Furthermore, the Hisense 65R6E has an aspect ratio of 16:9. Explaining further, aspect ratio refers to the proportion of the width to the height of a screen.

The 16:9 aspect ratio is perfect as it does not allow black bars at the top and bottom of the TV screen. Hence, it allows the contents to fill up the screen, which results in a more immersive viewing experience.

Furthermore, the Hisense 65R6E also offers a good contrast ratio. To be precise, the display has a contrast ratio of 3,441:1.

This is a quite impressive contrast ratio as the standard requires no less than 3000:1. To be clear, the contrast ratio of a TV refers to the difference between the deepest and lightest shades a television can produce.

So, with a contrast ratio of 3,441:1, the Hisense 65R6E should produce deep blacks. Consequently, watching movies with dark and shadow scenes will look more real.

Also, the Hisense 65R6E comes with a VA panel which offers higher contrast ratio but narrows the viewing angle. The consequence of the narrow viewing angle is that content on the screen will be looking washed out when viewed from an angle.

Furthermore, the Hisense 65R6E also supports HDR10. To further explain, High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a display technology that enhances picture quality.

Also, HDR10 enhances the TV’s brightness to the maximum of 1000 nits. Therefore, when watching HDR content on Netflix, the video looks very good.

Sadly, even though Hisense 65R6E supports HDR and offers good contrast, the TV has a poor display brightness. To be specific, the Hisense 65R6E measures a peak brightness of 309.6 nits.

As a result, the Hisense 65R6E won’t be suitable for bright rooms. However, it will be suitable for rooms with moderate light.

Thankfully, the local dimming of the Hisense 65R6E is good. Hence, watching movies in a dark room won’t be much of a problem.

To further discuss the display features of the Hisense 65R6E, I’ll be discussing its refresh rate.

Refresh rate is how frequently the TV can update picture content; the higher the refresh rate, the better. For instance, the Hisense 65R6E has a refresh rate of 60Hz which is a decent value.

This means that you will enjoy watching fast-moving content like sports on the Hisense 65R6E.

Let us now talk about the response time. It refers to the time taken for a display pixel to respond to a change in color.

An optimal response time makes it more enjoyable to game and watch colorful content.

It is also worth noting that 24 ms is the maximum response time standard and a value beyond that is not optimal. Thankfully, the Hisense 65R6t achieved a decent 15.2 ms response time.

Hence, with a response time of 15.2 milliseconds, the Hisense 65R6E should be able to change colors swiftly when watching colorful content.

Another display feature that is worth mentioning is the input lag. Input lag determines the delay between the input and output on a display.

The maximum input lag standard is 45 ms. However, a lower input lag is more beneficial for a better gaming experience.

In that regard, the Hisense 65R6E has a decent input lag of 30.8 ms. Hence, this is another reason why the Hisense 65R6E is suitable for gaming.

In conclusion, the display features of the Hisense 65R6E are quite impressive considering how affordable it is. To this end, I’ll be rating the Hisense 65R6E an eight out of ten in this section.

Hisense 65R6E: Sound Features

Personally, I love good music and to enjoy good music you will need a device with good sound qualities. If you are passionate about what sound qualities the Hisense 65R6E has to offer, keep reading this sound features review section.

The Hisense 65R6E comes with 2 channel 15 watts speakers. With these speakers, you are sure to have a sound experience that won’t leave you disappointed.

This is because the Hisense 65R6E comes with a technology that can make that satisfactory experience a reality. The DTS Studio Sound is the technology I was referring to.

The DTS Studio Sound is a sound technology or an equalizer that filters sound from the Hisense 65R6E television. This DTS Studio Sound feature also tends to create surround sound to give you a fascinating audio experience.

Furthermore, the Hisense 65R6E dialogue clarity is impressive and the sound system can get a bit loud. However, the speaker doesn’t have bass, but you can as well connect the TV with a soundbar.

Moving to the distortion test, this test is used to check the deformation of the output sound signal from its original form.

With the Hisense 65R6E, you will not notice any sound distortion at minimal or average volume. However, at maximum volume, the distortion becomes very audible.

Therefore, to have a better sound experience it is recommended that the volume level should be at an average of 80.

In conclusion, the sound department of the Hisense 65R6E fared well. However, it doesn’t produce bass and this might be a disappointment to some users.

To this end, I’ll be rating the Hisense 65R6E a six in this section.

Hisense 65R6E: Ports and Connectivity Features

The Hisense 65R6E features a good number of ports. All the ports are left-facing and are located at the back of the TV.

Since all the ports are left-facing, accessing them will be quite easy if the TV is mounted on the wall. However, the Hisense 65R6E doesn’t support a cable management feature.

Hence, cables connected to the television’s ports won’t look organized.

Speaking of the ports that the Hisense 65R6E comes with, there are three HDMI ports. One of the HDMI ports is ARC (Audio Return Channel) compatible.

This port allows you to connect an external speaker or soundbar to the TV. Sadly, the Hisense 65R6E features just one USB port.

As such, connecting more than one USB device won’t be possible. Furthermore, the Hisense 65R6E also comes with other ports like the RCA composite video input and an L/R audio composite input.

Additionally, the Hisense 65R6E has an ethernet port that supports the RJ-45 cable for wired internet connectivity.

In terms of wireless connectivity, the Hisense 65R6E has an in-built 802.11 a/b/g/[a]c WiFi. Unfortunately, this TV doesn’t have Bluetooth.

Next up in this review section is a brief discussion about the remote control of the Hisense 65R6E. This television comes with a black standard Roku TV remote with curved edges.

The remote has a large purple direction pad a little above the center. You will also find two menu buttons below the power button of the remote.

Meanwhile, the Hisense 65R6E volume and mute buttons are situated at the right side of the remote. Additionally, below the buttons, there is a Hisense and Roku Tv inscribed in white color.

Unlike the enhanced Roku TV remote, the Hisense 65R6E remote is a standard remote that unfortunately doesn’t have a built-in microphone for voice search. However, you will still be able to use the voice search feature on the Hisense 65R6E’s remote.

However, in other to use the voice search feature, you need to install the Roku app. The Roku app offers full control and additional features the standard remote doesn’t have.

In summary, the Hisense 65R6E comes with decent port options and a standard Roku TV remote. After an intensive review of these features, I decided to rate the Hisense 65R6E a six out of ten in this review.

Hisense 65R6E: Smart Features

Next up in this article, we’ll be discussing the Hisense 65R6E smart features. Similar to some other Hisense smart TVs, the Hisense 65R6E works with the Roku TV Operating System (OS) for its smart functions.

Hence, the Hisense 65R6E uses the Roku OS for its base interface. Interestingly, the OS is quite easy to use and flexible.

Even a nontech-savvy person should be able to use the OS. Additionally, the Roku TV comes with some pre-installed apps that almost fill the screen.

However, the pre-installed streaming apps are positioned on the right side of the screen. To mention but a few, the pre-installed apps the Roku TV feature includes Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, VUDU, HBO Go, and YouTube.

Similarly, if you need more streaming apps, you can as well download them from the Roku Channel Store. Furthermore, on the left side of the interface, you will find the menu for easy navigation.

In other to enjoy the full experience of the Hisense 65R6E RokuTV platform, you can download the Roku app on your phone or tablet.

The Roku app allows you have full control of the Hisense 65R6E through your smartphone or tablet. You can also use voice search to search for movies and TV shows.

Additionally, users can stream movies on the TV with the Roku app using a feature known as PlayOn.

However, the Roku app isn’t a fully-fledged voice assistant enabled like the Google Assistant on the Android platform.

Considering all I have said in this section, I’ll be rating the smart features of the Hisense 65R6E review a seven out of ten.
