Most Windows users do not need a RAM cleaner just because Task Manager shows high memory use. Windows can reclaim standby memory when apps need it, so a high percentage alone does not prove your PC is short on usable RAM. First check whether you are experiencing persistent slowdowns and identify which apps or processes are using resources.
Why Windows may show high memory use
RAM is short-term working memory: apps and files are loaded from slower storage so the processor can access them faster. Windows also manages virtual memory, including memory-mapped files, copy-on-write, and support for the cache manager, as described in Microsoft’s Windows memory-management documentation.
Task Manager’s memory figure does not mean every occupied byte is locked away from other apps. Microsoft divides memory into in use and available. In-use memory includes working sets, non-paged memory, and modified pages. Available memory includes standby and free memory.
Standby pages remain in physical RAM but are marked as no longer needed. Windows can replace them with newly paged-in data or move them back to the active list if needed. A Microsoft memory-footprint assessment defines these categories for an assessment associated with Windows 8 and Windows 10; use it to understand the terms, not as a description of every current Windows assessment procedure. So, a high usage percentage is not interchangeable with an unrecoverable shortage. The useful question is whether your normal workload is actually slowing down.
How to tell whether memory is causing a slowdown
Look for a persistent symptom during your ordinary use, such as slow app launches, poor multitasking, freezes, or an ongoing slowdown. Then find out whether a particular app or background process is consuming resources rather than treating the percentage itself as a diagnosis.

- Open Task Manager. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, then review Processes for resource-heavy apps and Performance for overall system use. Microsoft’s PC performance guidance also recommends reviewing Startup apps and closing apps you are not using.
- Check the workload behind a busy app. A browser’s memory demand can vary with the number of tabs and windows, extensions, ads, page content, and resolution. Those factors are described in Microsoft Edge’s engineering article; it is a browser-specific explanation, not a benchmark for all processes.
- Close what you do not need and observe the result. Close unused apps and browser tabs. If the slowdown clears, the workload or app was contributing to the pressure.
- Restart if closing apps does not help. If the issue persists, consider other causes as well. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance also identifies startup apps, outdated software, storage limitations, and hardware as factors that can affect performance.
- Check the computer’s upgrade options before buying RAM. Compatibility and upgradeability depend on the exact PC. Memory generation, form factor, maximum capacity, soldered memory, and available slots vary by model.
When a RAM cleaner is—and is not—useful
Routine use of a cleaner to make the memory-use percentage look lower is not supported by the Microsoft guidance cited here. Windows manages memory, and standby pages are reclaimable; freeing memory or changing a displayed figure does not by itself show that apps run faster.
The reviewed Microsoft sources do not test named third-party cleaners or establish a universal situation in which one improves application performance. That is an evidence limitation, not proof that all cleaners behave identically. No specific MemoryCleaner product, publisher, current release, feature set, or safety record is established here, and no cleaner has been benchmarked for this article. Do not interpret a lower Task Manager number as proof of a speed gain.

If you are evaluating a particular application, verify its exact publisher, current release, supported Windows versions, what memory categories it clears, required privileges, and whether it runs automatically or at startup. Look for independent security and performance evidence rather than relying on a claim that it frees RAM.
When to consider more RAM
A RAM upgrade is worth considering when your normal workload exceeds the computer’s available capacity and the specific device supports an upgrade. Microsoft’s broad memory guidance gives these workload examples:

These are Microsoft’s general recommendations, not measured results or a guarantee that a particular PC will perform well. Before choosing a module, check the exact device specifications and whether its memory is replaceable or expandable. Microsoft’s performance guidance notes that older PCs with outdated hardware may not improve substantially from software changes and that an upgrade may be the better long-term option.
