  • Short battery life

LG G7 Fit: At First Glance

The LG G7 Fit looks like LG’s attempt at bridging the gap between mid-range smartphones and their flagship counterparts. The smartphone blends some current flagship features with older hardware components.

For instance, LG has equipped the G7 Fit with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC. This processor was first used in smartphones like the Google Pixel XL, the LG G6, and the OnePlus 3T in 2016.

In my opinion, there is a pleasant irony in how the LG G7 Fit might find it hard to ‘fit’ in a category. While LG markets the G7 Fit as a smartphone that offers most of the advanced features of the LG G7 ThinQ, it also markets it as one that offers high-end features at a more competitive price.

LG G7 Fit: Design, Dimension & Weight

Right from the first encounter, the LG G7 Fit makes a strong statement for itself in terms of its design. Anyone will be impressed enough to take a closer look at its stylish design.

The LG G7 Fit has similar styling to the LG G7. Hence, the LG G7 Fit has a glass body, a notch, and an impressive screen-to-body ratio.

Unlike most smartphones of this price range that cut costs by using plastic frames or casings, the LG G7 Fit is a bit different. The smartphone has glass casings separated by a metal frame around its sides.

Although it comes with a glass design – the glass back in particular – adds a more premium feel to the smartphone. Unfortunately, the glass design also comes with downsides.

The smartphone tends to get greasy because of how it easily retains oil stains and smudges.

As a result, the LG G7 Fit is prone to slipping off your hands. It can also easily fall from an unbalanced smooth surface.

Fortunately, the LG G7 Fit has been fortified with military-grade MIL-STD-810G protection against accidental falls. Since the military-grade test requires successful completion of 14 environmental and climatic tests, you can be sure of the durability of the LG G7 Fit.

To add to its list of “superpowers”, the LG G7 Fit is also IP68 compliant. This means that the smartphone successfully passed an eight-hour test to assert that it is dustproof.

In addition, the LG G7 Fit is also water-resistant. Its IP rating details show that it can withstand submersion into a body of water of a depth of 1-3 m for at least 30 minutes.

In terms of measurement, the LG G7 Fit is almost completely identical to the LG G7 One. The LG G7 Fit measures 153.2 x 71.9 x 8 mm.

However, the LG G7 Fit is slightly heavier than the LG G7 One. While the G7 One weighs 156 g, the LG G7 Fit weighs 159.8.

In the LG G7 Fit’s defense, the weight change becomes insignificant when you hold the smartphone. The weight difference is only obvious when you know the figures.

As a result, the smartphone feels good to hold. Its overall structure enhances how it looks and feels.

Speaking of its structure, the LG G7 Fit features thin bezels. It features a notch design at the top of its display.

At the top of the smartphone’s display, you’ll find the front camera and earpiece. Meanwhile, the bottom of the display doesn’t feature any button.

The phone features on-screen buttons instead of physical buttons.

The left side of the LG G7 Fit houses the volume rocker while the right side features the power button. At the bottom of the smartphone, you’ll find the USB C charging port and a headphone jack.

If the front of the smartphone doesn’t wow you, tilting the smartphone over to its back will. The reflective glass back covering on the smartphone is one of its cool design features.

On this back cover, you’ll find the rear camera, flashlight, a fingerprint sensor and the G7 branding.

In conclusion, the design and build of the LG G7 Fit is awesome. Hence, it scores an eight in this review.

LG G7 Fit: Display Features

This is one of the best aspects of the LG G7 Fit.

LG offers two display size options for the G7 Fit. You can purchase the 5.7-inch display size model or the 6.1-inch display size model.

Irrespective of your model’s display size, you still get the same QHD+ display resolution. This review focuses on the 6.1-inch display.

The display offers a native resolution of 3120 x 1440. This display resolution means the display offers a pixel density of 563 pixels per inch.

Looking at the screen, you will notice an incredible amount of vibrancy. The beauty of the display is nothing short of what you would expect from an LG smartphone.

However, the screen didn’t look as sharp as the spec suggested. Based on my findings, one of the reasons for this is to extend battery life.

On a bright note, the maximum brightness of the LG G7 Fit is encouraging. In comparison, the smartphone’s brightness is higher than that of many smartphones in its range and even the G7 Thin Q.

Furthermore, the 19.5:9 aspect ratio of the display makes it feel more immersive. This is because of how tall and thin the display looks.

It also offers a wide viewing angle for watching movies or playing games.

Thanks to its impressively bright display, you will find it easy to use the LG G7 Fit outdoors. Additionally, you will be able to use the smartphone even under bright sunlight.

Moreover, the LG G7 Fit has stable viewing angles thanks to its IPS panel. You will barely notice color, image, or brightness alterations even at flat viewing angles.

Hence, the LG G7 Fit scores an eight in this review for its impressive display quality.

LG G7 Fit: Camera Features

Unfortunately, this is one area where the LG G7 Fit has made some compromises to keep costs down. Compared to the G7 Thin Q that is equipped with dual sensors, LG equipped the LG G7 Fit with a single front-facing and rear camera.

The LG G7 Fit features a 16 MP rear camera that has a focus of f/2.2 aperture. Judging from how narrow this sensor’s focus is, you shouldn’t expect an excellent performance from this camera in low light.

In practice, the rear camera captured decent pictures. Pictures taken with the rear camera looked sharp with a decent amount of dynamic range.

However, there was some visible amount of digital noise in some of the images. The digital noise was more visible in images that were taken in motion.

Surprisingly, the smartphone’s performance in low light was slightly better than I expected. Although pictures taken in low light didn’t come out sharp enough, the smartphone’s camera software makes it deliver a better than expected performance.

In comparison, the LG G7 Fit’s performance in low light was only slightly duller than the OnePlus 6T’s. Considering the G7 Fit’s lesser price point, the smartphone’s camera is impressive.

While the front camera displays more image noise in dark environments, it still takes acceptable selfies. Color reproduction was nearly as good as the rear camera’s.

Also, both the rear and front cameras are good for video recording. However, you will need to be as steady as possible when recording videos because neither of the cameras is optically stabilized.

In conclusion, the LG G7 Fit scores a seven in this review for its decent camera performance.

LG G7 Fit: Battery Life and Talk Time

Similar to like Moto G7 Plus, the LG G7 Fit comes with a 3,000 mAh battery.

To ascertain the battery runtime the smartphone has to offer, we carried out a battery test. This test involved continuous usage using Wi-Fi.

Unfortunately, the LG G7 Fit achieved a comparatively poor runtime in our battery test. The LG G7 Fit lasted 6 hours 30 minutes.

In comparison, the Honor 10 Lite and the Samsung Galaxy A7 offered longer battery lives. The Honor 10 Lite lasted 11 hours while the Samsung Galaxy A7 lasted 8 hours 30 minutes.

On a bright note, the LG G7 Fit comes with a fast-charging feature that allows you to charge the smartphone quickly.

In conclusion, the LG G7 Fit scores a six in this review for its relatively short battery life.

LG G7 Fit: Storage Options & Performance

This is another aspect where the LG G7 Fit shines. The LG G7 Fit comes with 32 GB internal storage.

32 GB of internal storage is an incredible bargain for the price of the smartphone. This storage size is sufficient for storing pictures, documents, and other files.

However, people who frequently shoot videos might quickly run out of storage space. Likewise, users who install a lot of games may also find the storage size insufficient.

Moreover, the smartphone’s operating system runs using a part of this internal storage. You only have about 16 GB of free storage space for your personal file storage.

Fortunately, the LG G7 Fit is compatible with microSD cards. Therefore, you will be able to expand your storage via an SD card of up to 2 TB capacity.

Overall, the storage on this smartphone is excellent. Hence, the LG G7 Fit scores an eight in this review for its excellent storage options.

LG G7 Fit: Security Features & Sensors

Sensors have been around for a long time – even before the smartphone was invented. They’ve not only made their way to the digital age, but they’ve also been getting smaller.

The accuracy of sensors has also been improving dramatically. These sensors allow your smartphone to see and hear in amazing detail, as well as to detect signals that we humans can’t easily detect.

Thanks to sensors, we have been able to make our everyday use of technology more intuitive. The ability of your smartphone to also serve as your navigation device, camera, gaming device, and digital wallet have all been made possible thanks to sensors.

Modern smartphones all feature a collection of sensors in order to stay appealing to potential users. Likewise, the LG G7 Fit also comes with some sensors.

Specifically, LG G7 Fit features an accelerometer, compass, Gyro, and proximity sensor.

The accelerometer detects the orientation of the smartphone. Apps use this sensor to switch between landscape and portrait modes based on the specific orientation of the smartphone.

As I mentioned earlier, the smartphone also features a proximity sensor. This sensor detects how close an external object is to the smartphone.

For instance, the proximity sensor helps the smartphone detect when it is close to the ear during a phone call and then turn the display off to save the phone’s battery.

For security, the smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor that uses biometric verification for secure access to the phone. Apps that require authentication, such as mobile payment apps, also make use of this smartphone sensor.

Overall, the LG G7 Fit scores an eight in this review for its good collection of sensors.
