HP Laptop 15T DW200: At First Glance

Over time, HP has become quite a popular household name in the laptop market. This brand offers well-equipped laptops with excellent performance.

One of these laptops is the HP Pavilion 15T DW200, which was released in 2020. This laptop features a 15-inch display with multiple resolution options and an optional touchscreen feature.

Also, the laptop comes with multiple 10th-generation CPU options and a super-fast M.2 SSD. However, even though the HP Pavilion 15T DW200 is impressive, it comes with a few flaws.

To find out more about this laptop and its flaws, read on!

HP Laptop 15T DW200: Design, Display, Ports, and Connectivity

The HP Laptop 15T DW200 will certainly grab your attention from a distance but loses some of its allure when you get close to it. Basically, even though the laptop is nicely textured with a smooth matte-silver finish, it feels cheap.

This is because the laptop is made with a cheap plastic material that attracts fingerprints easily. On the bright side, the laptop’s lid features an HP logo finely positioned at the center, which gives the laptop more style.

Moreover, this lid is attached to the base of the laptop by two solid plastic hinges. These plastic hinges are robust and tight, thereby preventing the lid from wobbling too much when nudged.

However, due to the tightness of the hinges, it may be difficult for you to open the lid with one hand. Nonetheless, when you finally open the lid, you will immediately notice the HP Laptop 15T DW200’s 15.6-inch display.

This display is available with either an HD (1366 x 768) or FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution. As a matter of fact, there is a version of the HP Laptop 15T DW200 that offers a 15.6-inch touchscreen display.

However, this review focuses on the HP Laptop 15T DW200, which has a 15.6-inch non-touchscreen display with FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution. With this resolution option, this laptop’s display is able to offer good picture quality and impressive color accuracy.

Besides, with either resolution option, the laptop’s display features an anti-glare coating on its surface for reflection handling. Technically, this anti-glare coating prevents reflection on the display and reduces the intensity of sun glares.

In addition to the anti-glare coating, the HP Laptop 15T DW200’s display offers a peak brightness of 220 nits. Hence, the laptop is ideal for usage in moderately-lit or dim areas.

However, with a maximum brightness of 220 nits, the laptop might struggle to keep in well-lit environments or outdoors. On a positive note, this laptop’s display is surrounded by relatively thin bezels.

Impressively, HP included a 720p HD webcam with dual-array digital microphones at the center of the top bezel. Although this webcam isn’t ideal for taking selfies, it is decent for casual skyping and video conference calls.

Moving on, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 features a standard keyboard and spacious palm rest on its base. In terms of performance, this keyboard offers well-spaced keys with adequate feedback for a comfortable typing experience.

In fact, the keyboard features a dedicated NumPad. Below the keyboard, you will find a spacious touchpad with a pair of dedicated click buttons.

Unfortunately, the surface of this touchpad isn’t smooth, which makes navigation slightly uncomfortable. However, the touchpad supports multitouch gestures such as two-finger scrolling and pinch-to-zoom.

That being said, the HP Laptop 250 G5 offers a decent amount of ports. Specifically, on its left side, there are two USB Type-A ports, an HDMI 1.4b port, and an Ethernet port.

Meanwhile, on the right side, you will find one USB 3.0 Type-C port and a headphone/microphone combo jack. However, the laptop lacks a Thunderbolt.

Also, due to its size, there wasn’t enough space for an optical drive. Speaking of size, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 measures 358.4 x 242.1 x 19.8 mm (W x D x H).

It also weighs 1750.9 g. Although this laptop isn’t the lightest or slimmest out there, it is lighter and slimmer than most of its competitors.

For example, the HP Laptop 250 G5 measures 384.3 x 254.6 x 24.3 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1960 g.

That aside, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 offers two Wi-Fi options – Realtek 802.11b/g/n/ac (1 x 1) and Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX 201 (2 x 2). Impressively, it also offers two Bluetooth options, which include Bluetooth 4.2 and Bluetooth 5.0.

All in all, I will offer the HP Laptop 15T DW200 a rating of eight out of ten.

HP Laptop 15T DW200: Processor (CPU) Performance

The HP Laptop 15T DW200 offers two processor options – an Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor and an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor. The Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor has a base frequency of 1.0 GHz and a boost frequency of 3.60 GHz.

Whereas the Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor has a base frequency of 1.30 GHz and a boost frequency of 3.90 GHz. Interestingly, both processors are quad-core processors, which means they have four cores each.

Also, they are both 10th-generation Intel processors. However, their cache memory differs.

Specifically, the Intel Core i5 processor has a 6 MB cache memory. Meanwhile, the Intel Core i7 processor has an 8 MB cache memory.

In terms of performance, both processor options are high-end CPUs that are capable of handling most computing tasks, including heavy multitasking. However, considering their cache memory and speed, the Intel Core i7 processor option should be faster and stronger.

With that being said, it is important to note that this review focuses on the HP Laptop 15T DW200 with the Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor. Hence, I will now consider the laptop’s Cinebench R20 benchmark test result to assess how well the processor can handle tasks.

Briefly, the Cinebench R20 test is a benchmark test that examines the ability of a computer’s processor by putting its cores through extreme workloads. Therefore, this benchmark test involves two tests – the single-core and multi-core performance tests.

The single-core test measures the CPU’s performance when one of its cores is in use. Meanwhile, the multi-core test does the same but when all of its cores are being used.

Moreover, you should note that a high score on these tests means good processor performance. Basically, the higher the scores on the tests, the better the processing ability of the computer.

Thus, according to the test results, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 with Intel Core i7-1065G7 CPU recorded 1150 points in the single-core test. On the other hand, it recorded 4001 points on the multi-core test.

Comparatively, this laptop’s scores are almost on par with that of the Lenovo Yoga C640, which also features an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor. Specifically, the Lenovo Yoga C640 recorded 1150 points on the single-core test.

However, on the multi-core test, it scored 4042 points.

In conclusion, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 offers two powerful processor options that are able to perform most computing tasks. Thus, I will rate the laptop a nine out of ten in this CPU review section.

HP Laptop 15T DW200: Memory (RAM) Performance

The HP Laptop 15T DW200 comes with a standard memory of 4 GB DDR4-2666 MHz SDRAM. Furthermore, the laptop features two memory slots and supports a maximum memory of up to 16 GB.

Basically, you can upgrade the memory of the HP Laptop 15T DW200 up to 16 GB. However, this review is based on the laptop with the standard 4 GB memory.

Performance-wise, with 4 GB RAM, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 should be able to handle most applications. It should also be able to perform light multitasking.

For example, you can run about 10 Chrome tabs on the laptop without experiencing any slowdown. In fact, switching between the tab should be smooth and lag-free for the laptop.

To further prove the laptop’s performance with 4 GB RAM, we will now discuss its result on the PCMark 10 test. In brief, the PCMark 10 test is a benchmark test tool that evaluates a PC’s memory performance by simulating real-world productivity workloads.

Furthermore, the higher the score on the test, the better the performance of the computer. So, based on the test result, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 with 4 GB RAM recorded a score of 4830 points.

Impressively, this laptop beats most of the laptops in its category. For example, the Lenovo Yoga C640 was only able to score 4,608 points on the PCMark 10 test.

Hence, it will only be fair to rate the HP Laptop 15T DW200 a nine out of ten in this section.

HP Laptop 15T DW200: Storage Options and Performance

The HP Laptop 15T DW200 has two storage options. Basically, you can purchase the laptop either with M.2 SSD or a 5400 RPM SATA HDD.

Impressively, these storage options support 1 TB of maximum storage capacity each. Even though this amount of max storage capacity should be sufficient for most people, some storage-hungry users might still find it limited.

Thankfully, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 comes with a microSD card reader for storage expansion. With that being said, it is important to note that this review focuses on the HP Laptop 15T DW200 with 256 GB M.2 SSD.

Performance-wise, this laptop should offer a rapid boot time and transfer speed thanks to the M.2 SSD. As a matter of fact, according to various sources, an M.2 SSD can deliver a sequential read speed of up to 3,500 MB/s.

Also, it can offer a sequential write speed of up to 3,000 MB/s. These numbers are massive compared to the average sequential read and write speed of 75 -100 MB/s that the 5400 RPM SATA HDD offers.

In case you don’t know, read speed is the amount of time it takes a computer’s storage drive to open a file. Likewise, write speed is the time it takes the storage drive to save a file.

Thus, with the M.2 SSD, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 should be able to open and save files extremely fast.

Overall, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 offers two storage options, including a super-fast SSD option. Also, the laptop supports a sufficient max storage capacity and features a microSD card reader.

As a result, I will rate the HP Laptop 15T DW200 a nine out of ten in this storage review section.

HP Laptop 15T DW200: Graphics Card Performance

The HP Laptop 15T DW200 offers two GPU options. These include integrated Intel UHD Graphics and dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX330.

The integrated graphics card option operates at a base frequency of 300 MHz and a maximum frequency of 1100 MHz. However, as an integrated graphics card, it is embedded into the processor of the laptop and lacks dedicated VRAM.

Thus, the GPU is dependent on the system memory in order to perform graphics-related tasks. Thus, don’t expect the HP Laptop 15T DW200 to effectively handle graphics-demanding tasks like video editing with the integrated GPU option.

Also, the laptop won’t be able to run title AAA games with the integrated graphics card option. However, with the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX330 graphics card option, things are pretty different.

Specifically, as a dedicated GPU, this graphics card comes with a dedicated VRAM of 2 GB GDDR5. Therefore, it doesn’t depend on the system memory to perform graphics-related tasks.

Besides, the dedicated GPU operates at a base frequency of 1531 MHz and a maximum frequency of 1594 MHz. Thus, with this dedicated graphics card option, the HP Laptop 15T DW200 will be able to handle graphics-demanding tasks seamlessly.

Additionally, the laptop should be able to run some title AAA games. For instance, while playing FIFA 21 in medium graphics settings, the laptop with this dedicated GPU option delivered a playable 79.5 fps.

Also, the laptop should deliver about 113 fps while playing BioShock Infinite in medium graphics settings. That being said, we will now examine the laptop’s 3DMark 11 test result to evaluate further how well it can perform with the NVIDIA GeForce MX330.
