Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: At First Glance

Lenovo is a household name in the laptop market. This brand offers a long list of laptop series, including the IdeaPad series.

A laptop in that series is the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK, which is the main focus of this review article. This Lenovo IdeaPad laptop offers a decent performance with adequate specs, such as a 6th-gen Intel Core i5 CPU.

However, the laptop has some pretty disappointing flaws, and its price tag isn’t particularly affordable. Speaking of price, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK had a price tag of $799.99 when I wrote this review in November 2022.

I know you must be wondering whether or not this Lenovo laptop actually worth this price tag. To find out, you have to read this article all the way through!

Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: Design, Display, Ports, and Connectivity

To start with, the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK offers decent design and build quality. Specifically, the laptop is entirely made out of plastic with a matte-black finish and catchy pattern.

Despite being made entirely out of plastic, this Lenovo laptop feels and looks sturdy. Besides, the lid of the laptop has a silver “Lenovo” inscription at the top right corner that adds more style to the laptop’s overall design.

Moreover, this lid is attached to the laptop’s base with two robust hinges. Impressively, these hinges are robust enough to prevent the lid from flexing too much when pushed.

Upon opening the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK’s lid, you will be greeted by a 15.6-inch display. This display comes with an HD (1366 x 768) resolution that allows it to deliver decent picture quality for video streaming.

However, you cannot compare the picture quality of the display with that of displays that feature FHD or 4K UHD resolution. This is because FHD and 4K UHD resolution offer more pixels compared to HD resolution.

Nonetheless, the laptop’s display comes with a TN (Twisted Nematic) glossy panel that allows it to render accurate colors. However, this glossy panel makes the display prone to reflection and sun glares when used in bright areas or outdoors.

Besides, the display offers a maximum brightness of just 200 nits, meaning it isn’t bright enough for outdoor usage. Nonetheless, this maximum brightness is enough for you to enjoy using the laptop in moderately lit or dim areas.

Sadly, the bezels surrounding the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK’s display are thick. However, you will find a 0.3 MP – 720p HD webcam with an integrated monaural mic at the center of the top bezel.

Proceeding to the base, the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK comes with a chiclet-style keyboard. The keys on this keyboard are well-spaced, responsive, and have good feedback.

As a result, this Lenovo laptop should offer a pleasant typing experience. As a matter of fact, this laptop’s keyboard includes a dedicated NumPad that makes performing number-related computing tasks easier.

That’s not all; the keyboard is also backlit. Thus, typing in dark areas shouldn’t be a problem.

Below this impressive keyboard, the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK has a spacious touchpad with two dedicated click buttons. This touchpad has a smooth surface that makes navigation easy and problem-free.

Sadly, the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK doesn’t come with enough ports. Specifically, the laptop’s left side features an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and one USB 2.0 port.

It also includes one USB 3.2 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a charging port. Meanwhile, the right side of the laptop houses an optical drive and Kensington lock.

For wireless connectivity, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK offers Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n LAN.

In terms of dimension and weight, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK measures 377 x 264 x 22.9 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 2300 g. Compared with the HP Laptop 15z EF100, this laptop is heavier and thicker.

To be precise, this HP laptop weighs 1,700 g and has a dimension of 358.4 x 242.1 x 18 mm (W x D x H).

In conclusion, the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK offers a decent design with a solid build. Also, it comes with an impressive keyboard.

Unfortunately, the laptop doesn’t offer enough ports. Thus, I will rate the Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK an eight out of ten in this section.

Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: Processor (CPU) Performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK offers various process options up to the Intel Core i5-6200U processor. Gladly, this review focuses on the laptop with the Intel Core i5-6200U CPU.

The processor has a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and a boost frequency of 2.80 GHz. Additionally, it offers a 3 MB cache memory as well as 4 cores.

Performance-wise, the Intel Core i5-6200U processor is an effective 6th-generation CPU than can handle most tasks you throw at it. Hence, with this CPU, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK shouldn’t have any problem processing word documents or web surfing.

The laptop should also be able to seamlessly handle the most powerful apps like Corel Draw and multitask with ease. Having said that, we will now talk about the laptop’s Cinebench R15 to further assess its performance.

Briefly, Cinebench R15 is a benchmark test that measures the strength of a computer’s CPU by putting its cores through extreme workloads. Additionally, this benchmark test involves two distinct tests – single-core test and multi-core test.

The Cinenbench R15 single-core test evaluates the processor’s strength when using one of its cores. Meanwhile, the multi-core test evaluates the strength of the CPU when all its cores are in use.

Moreover, a high score on the Cinebench R15 test equates to good performance. Based on the test results, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK scored 115 points in the single-core test and 215 points in the multi-core test.

Sadly, this laptop was outperformed by the HP Laptop 15z EF100, which uses an AMD Athlon Gold processor. Precisely, this HP laptop scored 303 points on the single-core test and 795 points on the multi-core test.

Due to this, I will rate the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK a seven out of ten in this processor review section.

Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: Memory (RAM) Performance

In terms of memory, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK offers a DDR4 memory type as well as 4 GB standard memory. Furthermore, the laptop comes with two RAM slots and supports a maximum memory capacity of 8 GB.

However, the memory slot that houses the standard 4 GB memory is onboard, meaning it is soldered directly to the laptop’s motherboard. Thus, you can only make use of the second memory slot to upgrade the laptop’s memory.

Having said that, this review focuses on the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK with 4 GB RAM. Performance-wise, this laptop is able to multitask decently with 4 GB RAM.

To be more specific, it is able to run about 10 Chrome tabs at the same time without lagging. However, the performance of the laptop might slow down a bit when you open various other applications in the background.

Moving on, let us discuss the laptop’s result in the PCMark 10 test to further evaluate its performance with 4 GB RAM. For clarity, PCMark 10 measures the overall performance of a computer by simulating day-to-day computing tasks like word processing.

Furthermore, the higher the points/score on the test, the better the performance of the computer. In that regard, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK with 4 GB RAM delivered a score of 3450 points.

Unfortunately, this laptop was beaten by the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 with 4 GB DDR4 RAM. Specifically, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 scored about 4,811 points on the PCMark 10 test.

Therefore, I will offer the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK a seven out of ten rating in this RAM review section.

Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: Storage Options and Performance

For storage, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK ships with a 2.5″ 5400 RPM SATA HDD. Also, the laptop supports a max storage capacity of 1 TB.

In my opinion, 1 TB of storage space should be enough for most people to save their files and documents. However, some storage-hungry users might think otherwise.

Fortunately, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK provides a 4-in-1 media card reader for storage expansion. That being said, let us check out the laptop’s result on the CrystalDiskMark test to analyze its storage performance.

For clarity, CrystalDiskMark gauges the storage performance of a computer by measuring its storage drive’s read and write speed. In case you don’t know, read speed simply means the time it takes a storage drive to open a file.

However, the time it takes the storage drive to store a file is known as write speed. Besides, the higher the “MB/s” value on the CrystalDiskMark test, the faster the storage drive’s read and write speed.

Speaking of MB/s value, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK recorded a sequential read speed of 102 MB/s on the test. It also delivered a sequential write speed of 104 MB/s.

Compared with the Dell Latitude E6410, which uses a 7200 RPM SATA HDD, this Lenovo laptop has faster read and write speeds. Specifically, this Dell laptop recorded a read speed of 86.43 MB/s and a write speed of 86.43 MB/s.

In conclusion, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK offers sufficient HDD storage and a 4-in-1 card reader for storage expansion. Also, the laptop beats one of its closest rivals on a storage benchmark test.

Hence, I will rate the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK an eight out of ten in this storage review section.

Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: Graphics Card Performance

Regarding graphics, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK offers an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 graphics card. In terms of speed, this GPU has a 300 MHz base frequency and a maximum frequency of 1000 MHz.

As hinted earlier, this graphics card is an integrated graphics card. This means it is incorporated into the laptop’s processor.

Thus, the GPU shares the system memory with the CPU to perform graphics-related tasks. Due to this, don’t expect the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK to perform efficiently when carrying out graphics-demanding tasks like video editing.

Additionally, the laptop won’t be able to run high-end games smoothly. For instance, the laptop was only able to deliver 8 fps while playing Assassin´s Creed Origins, which is totally unplayable.

Nonetheless, with this GPU, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK should be able to play low-end games like Asphalt 8 and Candy Crush smoothly. For more insight into the graphics performance of this Lenovo laptop, let us discuss its 3DMark test result.

In brief, 3DMark is a benchmarking tool used to assess how well a laptop’s graphics card can render 3D graphics and games. Moreover, a high score on this benchmark test equates to good graphics performance.

According to the test result, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK delivered a score of 1238 points. In comparison, the HP 14-dq2053cl performed better, scoring about 1611 points on the same test.

It is important to note that this HP laptop uses Intel Iris Xe Graphics.

All things considered, I will rate the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK a seven out of ten in this graphics review section.

Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK: Battery Life and Performance

The battery powering the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK is a 4-cell, 32 WHr Lithium-Ion battery. As advertised by Dell, this laptop should last up to 4 hours after a full charge.

Although this advertised battery life isn’t outstanding, I will highlight the laptop’s result on a video playback test to verify it. As the name suggests, this test involves playing an HD video repeatedly until the laptop’s battery runs low.

At the end of the test, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK delivered a battery of 3 hours, which is about 1 hour less than Dell’s claim. Compared to the HP Laptop 15z EF100, this laptop’s battery life falls short.

To be precise, the HP Laptop 15z EF100 delivered a battery life of 5 hours and 30 minutes on the video playback test.

All in all, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15ISK doesn’t deserve a rating of more than seven out of ten in this section.
